What a pleasant relief!!!…read more After a truly disappointing and stressful experience at a "fancy" senior living community that took advantage of my mom and her health needs--starting us at one price and doubling it within a year--we finally found Be Well Board and Care in Sherman Oaks, and I cannot express enough what a blessing it's been. Unlike the other place, Be Well is a beautiful, exceptionally clean home with the most outstanding caregivers I've ever met. My mom has her own private room and bathroom, and the neighborhood is absolutely charming. From day one, Russ and Alina have been truly caring and made the transition as smooth as possible for both my mom and my brothers and me. At the "fancy" place, we dreaded every phone call because it was always another problem, another issue, another source of stress. At Be Well, it's the opposite--they call to share how well she's doing, not to create anxiety. I no longer live in constant worry. In the beginning, the transition was a little challenging--mom was confused and needed time to adjust. But caregiver Lisa, along with the rest of the team, showed such incredible patience and compassion, making the move peaceful for her. Now my mom absolutely loves it there, especially Lisa. Our entire family's quality of life has improved since placing our mom at Be Well. I finally feel like she is safe, happy, and truly cared for. I only wish we had found them sooner.

The Community Director Jonathan gave us a tour and was treated by the residents like an adored rock star as we walked through the halls - making introductions with residents, explaining the extensive amenities, along with the robust calendar of daily activities for residents to participate in. We moved her in a week later (after visiting other facilities). Within 2 weeks she told me "I'm meeting so many interesting residents. It's like living in a resort, everything is done for you. I love it here!" Last night I got a text from her saying that she attended a mini classical concert in one of the residents rooms (that resident is known for her musical talents). The staff is attentive, responsive and kind. Prayers answered! I am beyond grateful.

One of my clients currently resides there, so I have an intimate knowledge of the operations at the facility. My client, who has Alzheimer's is happy, healthy and well cared for. The home is beautifully appointed, large and homey. In addition to that, you will not meet a more caring and competent staff. Daniel, the owner, takes pride in personally knowing about both the resident and their family to personalize their stay. The staff is on top of all medical and psycho-social needs and alerts me with any type of change in condition. Placing a loved one in an assisted living facility is a very hard thing to do. Elegant Senior Living is as close to being at home, as you can get. Go take a look and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

I live about 4 miles from Courtyard and when possible, I visit David. This visit, I made it a point of joining David for lunch, since I used to be Food Service Director in many Los Angeles facilities. So this was my main focus today, Friday July 11. And what a wonderful experience it was! Earlier, at the reception desk, I paid a $10 fee for lunch and it was well worth it. There were two entrees to choose from but before being served, a nice waitress, Gisele, came by and asked what we would like to drink. I chose Cranberry juice & David chose a tea. Within a few minutes, we were first offered a beautiful salad with a choice of dressing. After that, we were offered a choice of two entrees. David chose the fully loaded Hot Dog with sweet potato fries. I chose the Clams Alfredo. Both turned out well prepared and delicious. We enjoyed the delicious Lunch and each others company. There were several Ladies tending the tables and all went well. Thank you, Dining Room Staff: Gisela Catalan, Rubi, Maria and there was one more. I'll get her name and include it when I update next time.

We moved Mom in just about a year ago and from the moment we toured Jackie's Hideaway until today,…read morewe have been really surprised with just how much we get with our residency. We used a placement service that identified JH for us. We had several tours of other homes that were all in the same Valley area, and all around the same cost. What immediately stood out were the owners and the team on site. All friendly, caring, truly kind people. Andrei, who gave us our tour, was friendly, so knowledgeable and totally honest. He even brought up previous ownership issues the facility had faced and other issues that as a business owner, he had learned through and made specific improvements to address any issues. The care team that is on site is just amazing. They cook all meals in the kitchens right there so you know your family member will be getting home cooked meals that are nutritious and delicious (do NOT visit during meal prep time or you WILL want a plate!) These ladies bring a smile to Mom's face when they engage and I can tell just how much Mom has enjoyed getting to know them. The facility is also lovely. There is ample space with really nicely sized private rooms and bathrooms. The homes are in lovely garden surroundings and I'm pretty sure Jackie's Hideaway has turned my Mom into a bird watcher!!! While touring facilities in searching for a spot, Jackie's Hideaway was the only location that didn't focus on the glitz and window dressing of the facility. At one spot, the owner only focused on how expensive all of the decor was and how my Mom would be surrounded with luxury. I needed my mom to be surrounded by care and people who were going to be there to help her and not let her worry for a single thing. My mom chooses to hang in her room, but other residents are usually in the TV room or enjoying the garden when it isn't too hot outside. This freedom to do what makes you most happy...as odd as it sounds...is a big plus in these types of facilities. Many spots do what is most convenient for the staff...NOT for the residents. Jackie's Hideaway does not take that route. We are SO thankful we found Jackie's Hideaway and know that their care has lifted anxiety and worry from Mom...and from us. We hope to be a long-term success story!!!

Unfortunately I work full time and mom needed 24 hour care. The 1st place she lived was OK but she was left alone in her room all the time and wound up breaking her arm in two places. I was not notified for 6 hours. It was run by a husband and wife team and the husband passed away and the wife could no longer keep it going. The second place my mom went was a Board and Care that did not make it through the pandemic. I contacted A Place for Mom and they told me all about Amy's Mom and Dads Retreat. The second I walked in I knew I had found a place for my mom to live that was not just a Board and Care but a cozy home. Amy the owner is amazingly kind, proficient, and loving. Her caring staff meets my mom's every need and I never have to worry about her there. She has friends, a beautiful room. and everything is spotless. Amy keeps me informed on anything and everything. My mom has been there for years and I have zero complaints. I highly recommend Mom and Dad's Retreat and would not want my mother to go anywhere else.

She had a fall in June 2023 which caused her to require a higher level of care than she could get at her assisted living facility. We visited a dozen board and care facilities and Amy's stood out far above the rest. It was an easy choice and proved to be the right one in so many ways. It is truly a "home" because the caregivers really do treat the residents like family. The injury caused by the fall left my mother bedridden. This meant she needed a tremendous amount of physical care (e.g. she could not feed herself, bathe or go to the bathroom) which the caregivers at Amy's always provided with a smile. She also suffered a severe cognitive decline which, at times, caused her to be difficult or demanding. Again, her caregivers showed truly remarkable patience in dealing with her during this difficult time. Mom and Dads Retreat is the place to send your loved ones if you want them to be taken care of the way you would yourself.

The staff here is amazing, they don't just do their jobs (and they do them well) they are all very kind, supportive and loving toward her. This is a woman who would not leave her apartment, slept until noon, getting her to get dressed was a big task but her nature is social. She was famous in her youth and a singer / dancer. I could not believe that she was up and out of her room (DRESSED) by 8am and didn't return until after 5PM on day 2. EVERY SINGLE DAY she is kept active, she's singing with the pianist, playing bingo, watching movies, doing arts and crafts AND they told me she was participating in the morning walk! One of the ladies there sent me a video of her singing with the pianist today - she is in her element. Her Doctor comes to her every month (more if she needed him). I was weary that they would not be able to get her out of her room and get her dressed. AvantGarde has surpassed my expectations. I can travel without worry, I can visit her without me being the caretaker, I can rest easy knowing she is having a great time and in loving, capable hands.

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!…read more I work near this facility and personally know several seniors who live here. Based on direct knowledge and firsthand accounts, I have serious concerns about how residents are being treated. One resident I know personally was not properly cared for after a fall. After that incident, she was reportedly not assisted with meals or monitored to ensure she ate for three days. Her room has flooded twice, and because of how often this happens, it reportedly smells of mold, which raises serious health concerns. After the second flood, she was abruptly dismissed from her room so it could be cleaned and was not allowed to gather her phone, shoes, or any personal belongings. She was sent out in the middle of December wearing only sandals and no sweater. This showed a complete lack of concern for her safety, comfort, or dignity. What is most disturbing is the lack of empathy. This is a facility entrusted with the care of vulnerable seniors, yet the focus appears to be convenience and profit rather than basic human compassion. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!! Please choose another place. No one's loved one deserves to be treated this way.
