Mom had been in fancy…read moreassisted living places for ten years, but had a lot of anxiety with so many people around going in and out of her room to take care of her many needs. She was blind and no longer walked. Some care givers were not very experienced, so my family decided to try another kind of care altogether. We were so lucky to find Shalom Gardens. There was a nice, peaceful room with private bathroom. It was not as fancy as the fancy assisted living, but none of that mattered. The new environment was more calm, had good vibes, mom got much better care, and her anxiety turned into relaxation and even bliss for periods of time. We were welcome to visit, the protocol was covid cautious, hospice workers told us how lucky mom was to be there, compared to other places they were going to. Long time caregivers, Arnold and Marci were a great team, and the two of them cared for mom up to and on the night she passed away. I only wish we had moved her to Shalom Gardens five years earlier! Rita, who runs Shalom Garden was business like, flexible, and helpful. She gave us a good referral for a hospice team that my family was happy with. Mom had a good death, at 96 years old. The other ladies at Shalom Gardens were also very peaceful and calm, whenever I saw them around. Lots of privacy for all there. I learned that if any elders have special needs, and require routine and calm surroundings, a good board and care can be much better than a fancy assisted living place. Good luck everyone with your elder care.

When we decided it was time to find him a place where he could get the help he needed, we had no idea where to start or how to find a suitable facility. Thankfully we found Assisted Living Connections and Jennahway. Jennahway spent time hearing us out and helped us understand our options, and we loved that she clearly had an in depth knowledge of the areas we were looking in and what was available, pros and cons, etc. She even provided a document with advice and questions to ask when we went on tours. We ultimately found the perfect place for our needs and had no hesitation in knowing it was home. Going through this process is stressful, emotional, and time consuming. If I was to give one piece of advice, it would be to start by calling Assisted Living Connections to ease some of these pressures and facilitate the process. We never felt any pressure to move more quickly than our own pace and it was great to have Jennahway by our side. There are so many options out there in LA, let the experts help and support your family to find the perfect fit.

Belmont Village Encino is amazing. I could write a two page review on this Senior Living home and…read morethe terrific staff that works there. It's been almost 7-months since we moved my mom into Belmont and she's finally adjusting thanks to the team. My mom has dementia and it has been such an emotional rollercoaster finding the right place for her. The team at Belmont (Kate, one of the directors), the pals, Lynnell, Linda, Lydia, Jeffrey, Olga have helped my mom adjust and also rode the emotional waves I have gone thru putting my mom in SL. My mom and I are best friends, so I was so scared to place her somewhere, these guys couldn't be better. We go all hours day and night to visit. We eat dinner regularly at Josephine's Kitchen (the dining room), shout out to Barbara who is one of the servers we love. In addition, the activities they offer keep my mom busy and happy. It took her awhile to make friends but now that she has she looks forward to the daily events and weekly trips. Honestly, I love the residents as much as the staff and I'm ready to move in myself, lol. We know everyone on a first name basis. Team members like Joyce and Sophie help my mom get dressed and take her to the bathroom when she needs it. Like I said, I could go on. What you get for the price is exceptional, IMO. It's such a hard transition seeing your parent with dementia move into assisted living but if you need a place, this spot is home. Sarah *** I wanted to address a couple of things I've seen in the reviews in case you're considering moving your loved one to Belmont. First, is Belmont clean? YES, Belmont is very clean. I think Carmen (one of the cleaning staff) does a terrific job. As far as my mom's room being clean it's really hard to keep up with her. With her dementia there is often clothes all over the place and food on the floor. It's impossible to keep up with her. Belmont is great at trying, and the residents are all very clean. Second thing, is there enough staffing? Yes, in the 8 months my mom has been a resident of Belmont I've seen a huge improvement. They have added a lot of staff. Lance the director has made a big push to hire new people and it's made a big difference. I do think this was one area Belmont needed to improve on and they have. Lastly, wanted to shoutout more amazing Belmont employees. When you move your parents in be sure to get to know this great team - they will take good care of your loved ones: Carmen (nursing), John, Krista, Diamond, Jessica, Jelena, Roxanna, Rahim (nurse), Fernando and Mario (they are the terrific drivers), Yadera, Beatrice, Marnello, Rosario (she's worked there over 20yrs), Lauralynn, Perla, Sara, and Gabriela.

What a pleasant relief!!!…read more After a truly disappointing and stressful experience at a "fancy" senior living community that took advantage of my mom and her health needs--starting us at one price and doubling it within a year--we finally found Be Well Board and Care in Sherman Oaks, and I cannot express enough what a blessing it's been. Unlike the other place, Be Well is a beautiful, exceptionally clean home with the most outstanding caregivers I've ever met. My mom has her own private room and bathroom, and the neighborhood is absolutely charming. From day one, Russ and Alina have been truly caring and made the transition as smooth as possible for both my mom and my brothers and me. At the "fancy" place, we dreaded every phone call because it was always another problem, another issue, another source of stress. At Be Well, it's the opposite--they call to share how well she's doing, not to create anxiety. I no longer live in constant worry. In the beginning, the transition was a little challenging--mom was confused and needed time to adjust. But caregiver Lisa, along with the rest of the team, showed such incredible patience and compassion, making the move peaceful for her. Now my mom absolutely loves it there, especially Lisa. Our entire family's quality of life has improved since placing our mom at Be Well. I finally feel like she is safe, happy, and truly cared for. I only wish we had found them sooner.

The staff here is amazing, they don't just do their jobs (and they do them well) they are all very kind, supportive and loving toward her. This is a woman who would not leave her apartment, slept until noon, getting her to get dressed was a big task but her nature is social. She was famous in her youth and a singer / dancer. I could not believe that she was up and out of her room (DRESSED) by 8am and didn't return until after 5PM on day 2. EVERY SINGLE DAY she is kept active, she's singing with the pianist, playing bingo, watching movies, doing arts and crafts AND they told me she was participating in the morning walk! One of the ladies there sent me a video of her singing with the pianist today - she is in her element. Her Doctor comes to her every month (more if she needed him). I was weary that they would not be able to get her out of her room and get her dressed. AvantGarde has surpassed my expectations. I can travel without worry, I can visit her without me being the caretaker, I can rest easy knowing she is having a great time and in loving, capable hands.

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!…read more I work near this facility and personally know several seniors who live here. Based on direct knowledge and firsthand accounts, I have serious concerns about how residents are being treated. One resident I know personally was not properly cared for after a fall. After that incident, she was reportedly not assisted with meals or monitored to ensure she ate for three days. Her room has flooded twice, and because of how often this happens, it reportedly smells of mold, which raises serious health concerns. After the second flood, she was abruptly dismissed from her room so it could be cleaned and was not allowed to gather her phone, shoes, or any personal belongings. She was sent out in the middle of December wearing only sandals and no sweater. This showed a complete lack of concern for her safety, comfort, or dignity. What is most disturbing is the lack of empathy. This is a facility entrusted with the care of vulnerable seniors, yet the focus appears to be convenience and profit rather than basic human compassion. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!! Please choose another place. No one's loved one deserves to be treated this way.
