PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!…read more I work near this facility and personally know several seniors who live here. Based on direct knowledge and firsthand accounts, I have serious concerns about how residents are being treated. One resident I know personally was not properly cared for after a fall. After that incident, she was reportedly not assisted with meals or monitored to ensure she ate for three days. Her room has flooded twice, and because of how often this happens, it reportedly smells of mold, which raises serious health concerns. After the second flood, she was abruptly dismissed from her room so it could be cleaned and was not allowed to gather her phone, shoes, or any personal belongings. She was sent out in the middle of December wearing only sandals and no sweater. This showed a complete lack of concern for her safety, comfort, or dignity. What is most disturbing is the lack of empathy. This is a facility entrusted with the care of vulnerable seniors, yet the focus appears to be convenience and profit rather than basic human compassion. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY!!!! Please choose another place. No one's loved one deserves to be treated this way.

The staff here is amazing, they don't just do their jobs (and they do them well) they are all very kind, supportive and loving toward her. This is a woman who would not leave her apartment, slept until noon, getting her to get dressed was a big task but her nature is social. She was famous in her youth and a singer / dancer. I could not believe that she was up and out of her room (DRESSED) by 8am and didn't return until after 5PM on day 2. EVERY SINGLE DAY she is kept active, she's singing with the pianist, playing bingo, watching movies, doing arts and crafts AND they told me she was participating in the morning walk! One of the ladies there sent me a video of her singing with the pianist today - she is in her element. Her Doctor comes to her every month (more if she needed him). I was weary that they would not be able to get her out of her room and get her dressed. AvantGarde has surpassed my expectations. I can travel without worry, I can visit her without me being the caretaker, I can rest easy knowing she is having a great time and in loving, capable hands.

Gena Grundeis Gena.Grundeis@brookdale.com…read moreBrookdale, Gardens of Tarzana Reg: Your People, your environment, your care Dear Gena, I wanted to take a moment to share our wonderful experience we've enjoyed while working so closely with your dedicated team of caring professionals, Mitch, Ethan, Anna, Zuly, Lillie, Tony and the entire team at Brookdale. Moving our mom from her home in Northern California after retirement to a place close to us, her children, was a dream. Quite frankly we had been planning to have mom move into our home. Ater interviewing friends and extensive research, we considered looking for a retirement community where mom could be surrounded with a cross section of community that truly had commonality. After all mom is active and enjoys daily interaction, stimulating challenges, going to events, and of course people of all ages. Did I mention having fun and activities. Ideal isn't always ideal This was a very difficult decision but our primary driver was mom's welfare, quality of life, enjoyment, and care. This approach was our guiding principle. Aging-in place We realized that mom is independent today and as we would want to fill her days with every opportunity, we would definitely try. When it came to helping mom, in the event of her needing care, though that may be years from now, we would need help. We also were not home 7/24. Mitch, that masked man (Covid mask), with a kind demeanor and great heart, shared the concept of having all the facilities and care in a dial-up or dial-down option, should mom ever need it. And did I mention the beautiful community filled with wonderful residents who have multiple activities a day... ok, this was hard to believe. I've quickly learned to be a believer. I was clearly on a quest to find the best for mom, focusing on her independent nature and flexible life style. Fast forward to researching 37 establishments including multiple Brookdale communities, Aria, Sunrise... we decided on three finalists, two Brookdale and another. Yes, by now you guessed it Brookdale Gardens of Tarzana became my decision and I met with the family, on both coasts, to share my findings. Your community has many offerings that we considered, cleanliness, beautiful and spacious environment, caring and seemingly nice residents, great meal options, great services, great age-in-place options, and more. There was a very clear differentiator, you and your team. It's been almost two months since we met Mitch and your staff and mom moved in March to her beautiful new home at Brookdale. Which by the way, Ethan ensured everything was beautiful and operational. He also installed a TV, electronics, power, drapes...he's a one man construction force. Simi, I, and the entire family are very impressed at the beautiful and caring community you attract and nurture. We humbly thank you for making mom and all the residents so welcome and comfortable. Warmest Regards, VJ Singh and family

It is for anyone and everyone who needs special care in whatever their condition is. I have been here multiple times back in 2019-2021 when my late mother in law was at this facility. I would go there around 5pm when it was their dinner time. Feed her, try to talk to her and spend one on one time with her.She had Alzheimer's disease. I believe they have 4 different buildings and plenty of parking spaces along with clean restrooms. This facility was established back in 1912 and still serves their patients, families of the patients with pride, dignity, and kindness. They have over 6,000 seniors every year entering this facility. They even have a nice garden. They provide care for home, in their community and on premises/campuses. Nurses and other staff members are very sweet, kind, caring, professional and HELPFUL!! They don't just treat you as a number; but as a human. Recently few days ago I willingly wanted to go see one of my friend's mom who is in this care center. She has dementia. I told her that I would be going there and she met me there. Place is spotless clean, they come and change the bed sheets pretty frequently, take you for a walk, help you to take your medications, and do their best for everyone to feel welcomed, safe and a good place to be at! If you have a loved one and needs a good home, don't hesitate to bring them to this facility.10/10. Thank you all for all that you do for everyone. They accept insurance, and other types of medical payments..

When the nurses let my father suffer so badly from a UTI that at bedtime he became belligerent, they sent him to jail. An 83 year old man with dementia. Yes they finally brought him back but the experience in jail caused a huge decline in his physical being. He declined pretty fast from then. The weekend when it seemed he would not make it the nurse on duty refused to let me come see him. I was only allowed to see him once he had died. I recently called for information and their VP could not have been more rude or dismissive. This is the retirement home we have all been warned about

My mother is currently at a board and care facility with advanced dementia and incontinance issues but they are doing a superior job at maintaining a clean living space. There has been a significant amount of staff turn over and I found it difficult to reach management. I see Allison responding to positive reviews but she never responded to any of the messages I left for her. Her voice mail was never set up and I had no idea how to reach her. I tried to settle my mother's final bill there and it was difficult to reach the business office. I received what was supposed to be my final bill but alas I received another one a few weeks later. When my mother first moved in, there were no up charging, but then they started to add extra charges every month. One month the bill was several hundred dollars more than it should be. I received an accounting and my mother was charged for dozens of meals she never ordered. Management fixed that bill but the helpful person who corrected it for me was gone the next month. It's been frustrating and I began to feel negatively about the experience.

It 'takes a village' to meet the many needs of loved ones facing social isolation and challenges around daily personal care and I have found that village in the supportive community at Savant Woodland Hills. Among the 18 memory care facilities I contacted in greater Los Angeles, Savant's dual commitment to both quality care and affordability was unmatched. From the first introductory meeting to my brother's move-in five weeks later, senior staff member Jeanette Hernandez provided kind and expert assistance at every stage. Six weeks have passed since my brother moved in and he is visibly more cheerful, peaceful, conversational and actively engaged with his world than he has been in months. And I am more relaxed, secure in the knowledge that he feels at home and safe in the midst of such a caring and supportive community and is receiving the 24/7 monitoring needed at this stage of his life. Thank you Savant Woodland Hills!
