The cappuccino was amazing! Really loved the concept of bringing back the cup to be environmentally friendly! Enjoyed the drinks and atmosphere very much! Service is quick and super friendly!

    Flat White (~£4)

Ordered: Flat White (~£4) Aya's take: Monmouth Coffee has tons of great reviews and seems to be well-known in London, so we decided to give it a try. This one is located inside Borough Market so you can imagine how chaotic it was to get a simple coffee. They do work quick as people come and go every few minutes. Upon entering, we were told they don't have any takeaway cups unless you buy one of their ceramic cups (I believe they were £5 each). I've never heard that before at the hundreds of cafes & coffee shops I've been to but regardless, we were planning to drink our coffee there so it didn't affect us. The Flat White was decent but not exceptional. It was smooth and bold but fell flat (no pun intended) as it was a bit watery rather than creamy. Nonetheless, it gave me the caffeine kick I needed to get through my day. Decent try and would recommend checking them out!

Great coffee spot opposite the borough market in London, @monmouthcoffee serves great cappuccino and pastries and has a cosy space inside. Service was great and quick.

Much too crowded for my liking.. But I admit, the espresso is excellent! It's way too busy to have a relaxing coffee break so my preferred option is to get a coffee to go while I walk around the market stalls.

I'd say I have to be disappointed with the care given to the pour over. It's a production yes but when you are selecting expensive beans, at least pour from a spouted kettle versus a pitcher and weigh the output! It's a little sloppy, as the ceramic is similar to a melitta, which is linear and they place your cup right underneath so the coffee ends up dripping over the sides. I've only had the espresso based drinks before so this foray into sampling other offerings was disappointing. The beans were good and forgiving of the technique but I was a little taken aback. If you have to choose, I'd select gentlemen baristas which is just a little bit over, past the cheese mongers.

    £3,10 or US$4.20

Pretentiousness. Sorry but 3,10 for a cup of drip coffee is just too hoity toity for me, and they don't bother with soy or almond milk, as I am sure they think we should be drinking the coffee black as the way they prepared it. The place is tiny, the line is out the door, and they're charging a King's ransom for coffee that will be consumed in 2 or 3 sips. Sorry but too many great places in London that I can afford to drink at. Not impressed.

    Cortado

Quite possibly the best cortado I have ever had, and an amazing pain au chocolate to go along with it. Worth lining up for (didn't take long) and having to stand while we consumed our beverages and food.

    Holy crap!

Coffee so good that joe-hounds make a pilgrimage here for their espresso pours. After quaffing one then following it with a flat white (well, it was almost 2:00 p.m.) it's easy to see the deserved reputation. Want some competition? There's a stand or stall about every 10 yards in every direction around here but only Monmouth has the kind of line that shouts "we're the tops." Now HOW did my barista make the pour dark on one side and light on the other in the creama????

Limited tables inside but it was unclear how one could secure a seat.

Foodie 101: when you see a long line, get in it. This has been my policy for decades and after years of traveling the globe, it has never once let me down. When I saw a line about 3 dozen deep for a coffee shop, I knew I had to queue up. Thankfully the line moved quickly, and you get free entertainment by watching the pour-over coffee being made which helps to pass the time. I asked the friendly baristas what the local favorite was and I was told "everything." That wasn't too helpful so I decided to go for a traditional macchiato. It was pretty good (not up to Italian standards but still had a nice frothy crema and a delicious bold nutty / chocolate note in the beans). If you like the roast you tried, you can buy beans in their shop. The have limited seating inside but it was unclear how you could secure one of the tables. You could pay around 5 pounds for a seat at the communal table -- but how and where do you do it? I just wanted my coffee to go and there are a few crowded benches out front (most people sitting weren't even customers but whatever, I can drink my espresso standing up with no issues). I wouldn't go so far as to recommend that coffee lovers make a special trip to try this place out, but coffee nerds (or those who simply love to revel in the artistry of coffee being brewed) should make a point to stop by. Monmouth Coffee is located in the busy Borough Market and is open Monday - Saturday from 7:30 am - 6:00 pm. CLOSED SUNDAYS!

The queue is always long here.

I'm not sure why there's always such a long queue of people waiting to get coffee here, but in my experience, it wasn't worth the wait. You can get similar quality at a Pret A Manger or Costa. I ordered a latte, and while good, it wasn't anything to stand up and shout about. The place was loud and not the most comfortable place to stay and chill. They don't seem to carry any alternative milks, so if you're allergic to or avoiding dairy for any reason, look elsewhere for that flat white, cappuccino, or latte. They also don't carry much, if anything, in the way of food. All they have are a few pastries and croissants. Perhaps I was just here on an off day, but I have had better coffee in the area just a short walk away near the Borough Market.

I got an iced latte!!!! I REALLY recommend the sugar (cane sugar).

Great little spot on Borough Market to grab a coffee and attempt to work as the London bankers head to the pub on a sunny afternoon.
