I cannot tell you how awesome Twan is as both an artist and person. I waited 51 years to get my first tattoo...and I'm SO glad I found MWT. From the moment I met him, Twan was so relaxed and comforting. He made sure I felt comfortable and prepared. I couldn't be happier with the results. The entire crew is fun and supportive. Brando was awesome. He was very friendly, straightforward, caring, empathetic and everything in between. He took his time with the drawing and worked with me to ensure the design is exactly what I wanted. He provided suggestions which you could take it or leave it. He takes pride in his work and at the end of the day just wants his clients happy. The shop itself is clean and bright. They sanitize everything and provide aftercare instructions. Definitely recommend this shop and Brando. read more

Wes is simply the best. He's fast! Lightning fast and packs in color and black like a sticker. Not only is he talented and fast, he has a light hand and is just a good guy! He worked with our schedules and worked in my brother in law for an epic cover up. Highly recommended this shop and the talented team at monkey wrench! read more

I got my first tattoo!!! I did my research and really liked what I saw both on their website but also the Yelp reviews and word of mouth when I asked around. The shop is upstairs with a small parking lot , easy to find. The shop itself is clean and has so much art on the walls it's fun to look around every corner. The Tattoo Artists are all so talented and fun to talk to. I felt safe, I felt heard when I talked about what I wanted and the end result is better than I could have imagined. My daughter also got a tattoo here from Twan, and I had my tattoo done by Aaron. I never thought I'd be a tattoo person, but now, I am. I can't wait to go back and have each of the artists do a different tattoo on me. I could not recommend this place higher, I wish we could have ten stars. read more

Wes is absolutely incredible! We pulled into his shop on a whim and didn't realize we chose the best spot in Santa Rosa to get tatted. He is so welcoming and friendly and takes his time during consultations. We got two tattoos which only took 2.5 hours for the whole experience!! And his prices are very reasonable. We aren't from Santa Rosa but we would absolutely come back just to get tattooed by him again. read more

Wes didn't bat an eye at taking on a dark coverup on the ribs. I had put off getting this covered up for years because I was afraid of the pain all over again and I was doubtful I'd be truly happy with a cover up. I love it! Of course being the ribs there were some gnarly moments but overall really not bad pain-wise and he was super quick. I wish I had come in sooner. Thanks again! read more

I went here because I heard Guy Fieri had gotten a tattoo here. I figured if it was good enough for Guy, it was good enough for me. I loved the energy and cleanliness of the space. Plus Aaron Guiterrez did an Amazing job on my tattoo. Although I'm no stranger to getting inked, I was impressed with Aaron's professionalism and his attention to detail. It was an enjoyable session and I look forward to going back and working with the folks at Monkey Wrench again. Highly recommended. read more

Wes is an awesome artist and friendly guy. I had a great experience getting my first-ever tattoo, which was on a tricky crossed-fingers placement. He is very skilled and did an amazing job. This is a great shop and I won't go anywhere else for tattoos. It is clean, they are friendly, attentive, and good at what they do. I have gotten two tattoos from Monet, one was a cover up on my foot, and the other was an original piece on my back. Not only is she a complete sweetheart, she is also an amazing artist, fast, and professional. She makes the process and painless and comfortable as possible all things considered. Both times, the end result has been amazing. I highly recommend the shop in general and Monet specifically for your tattoo needs! read more

I got a tattoo done by Jesse last week and I am really happy with it! I didn't have an appointment, but walked in and Jesse was super friendly and helpful. I had to run to an ATM to get cash ($80 minimum, at least as of last week), and Jesse printed me some fonts to pick from while I was gone. All told, I was in and out in less than an hour. Jesse chatted casually with me and my friend while he was working and asked if I wanted to take a picture before he covered it up. He's got you so you can make your Instagram post! I thought the shop was clean and nice. It's a bit hard to find -- second floor or a little building, but you'll be rewarded for the effort. I didn't see Jesse's name on the website, but ask for him! I really liked him, and I think I'll be back for another piece. read more

I went to this shop based on the Yelp reviews which were all pretty good so I made an appointment with one of the artists who's name was jesse I believe and he did the tattoo, no problem, I paid and tipped him and he told me that if I ever needed any touch ups to come back and he'd do them no charge, which I was Like doooope!! So a month or so later I wanted to go back and get a couple more tattoos done but I'd lost the business card with his name and personal number on it. No problem, I just went back to the shop and he wasn't there so I spoke with another one of the artists who was super nice and called him and r and asked if he had time the next day, which he replied that he was free all day so he asked jesse if he could give me his nuMeet, he said ok so I left and proceeded to text him and ask him some questions regarding the work I wanted done. I waited and waited and waited and NEVER GOT A RESPONSE. So after a couple hours I thought he had been out or eating dinner, whatever the case I figured it had been long enough so I texted again, saying sorry for Walter if I had bothered u while I were in the middle of something but... and I asked again if I could come in tomorrow and explained the tattoos I had wanted to get & again NOTHING. So yeah, he never responded. All an all, he gave me a really good price on my first tattoo but then when I wanted to go back for another one he completely ghosted me for no reason. We literally got along totally fine and had a pleasant convo while he did the first one and I even gave him a fat tip so I'm am totally confused as to why this happened?? Maybe so he wouldn't have to do the free touch up??? Who knows. So, I'm goi g to end this by saying the tattoo shop on a whole was fine, it was clean & the price was good and the other artist that I spoke to when I went in the second time was Hella nice and professional, I just would just warn people if u decide to go there DO NOT get tattooed by jesse!!! Super shady & unprofessional and the shading he did o n the tattoo sucks and what little color he did put in the tattoo is so dull and barely there and I honestly could use that free touch up... what a jerk!! read more

I've been to a lot of shops in Santa Rosa and this ones been my fav. Shop prices are the best I've found. The artists are great at making you feel comfortable and explain aftercare instructions well. Great space, very clean, lots if Jerry Sloan light. Everyone is super laidback and the vibe was awesome. I had Wes Anderson for a walk-in piece and he did a fantastic job, super happy with how it turned out. Looked through a lot of the artists portfolios and you'll be in good hands no matter who you choose. Definitely will be coming back in a couple weeks. read more

I started coming to this shop probably 3 years ago if not more... Getting tattooed by an artist who is no longer located at this shop... In saying that I had always watched and admired Monet, watching her work walk out while I was getting work done. When the artist I originally went to left the shop I took it as my opportunity to finally ask if she could do my sleeves I've wanted for 10+ years. I'm happy to say that she has been working on my sleeve for about 4 months now if not more and it is turning out even more amazing than I expected! At the moment we're working on my nautical sleeve and she got every little thing I wanted on my arm the color is finally coming in and all I can say is WOW! Such talent! I can't wait for it to be finished! Then we move on to my other sleeve (in the sky! ) Painful and time consuming but worth it! I always have a good time in the shop laughing while grunting at times haha Everyone at this shop is talented and sweet I just know I found my artist... Monet... Who I would call... The best! great personality, makes you feel comfortable, listens to what you want, honest and kind what else could you ask for in a tattoo artist? Go! You won't be disappointed with whoever you choose from this shop! read more

I had the pleasure of working with Aaron for my first tattoo, my dogs paw print. He did an amazing job, he was professional, informative, kept me completely comfortable the entire time and is an extremely talented artist. He even worked with me in using my dogs actual paw on my arm, and we ended up combining that with a regular stencil for my absolutely perfect tattoo. I could not be happier. I would recommend him to anyone. You can tell he was born for this line of work. I can't wait to go back for my next piece! read more

Nineteen years ago I got my second tattoo at the previous incarnation of Monkey Wrench in Santa Rosa, & I was interested to see how the shop and artists have changed since then. Two days ago, I called the shop & spoke to Wes who was both kind and professional, & he encouraged me to come to the shop to book or be tattooed since appointments require deposits. Before going in, I went to the website to check out the art (which is clearly skilled), but what really caught my attention were the hilarious artist bios. Go to the website. Read the bios. Seriously, it'll make your day. Yesterday when I got to the shop in its current incarnation, I was hoping to book my 9th tattoo. I walked in & the shop was bright, clean, full of art, & the shop's sense of humor was apparent in signage as well. All tables were full except for one. Monet greeted me, & luckily she was available for a small tattoo. I wanted a raspberry to match my daughter's birthmark, & Monet was easy to talk to in relationship to my desired details for the quarter sized piece. Monet tattooed with a light hand, and her work was clean, precise, & exactly what I wanted. It was an overall pleasant process, & I felt more than happy with the customer service, facilities, process, & tattoo. Side note, bring cash as it's a cash only studio. Oops, I messed up & had to run to an ATM. read more

Had a fantastic experience!! I am visiting from out of town and my sister, partner and I were in the mood for spur of the moment tattoos. Monkey wrench came up on my search for tattoo shops near me. I called and the fella on the phone was very friendly and let me know it was first come first serve but they would be happy to see us and get us squared away. Showed up and was greeted by big smiles and happy disposition by staff. I forgot his name ‍. Said he could get us going no problem. Showed him my photo and he drew up a beautiful piece in no time! I even loved that another artist came around and started joking around with my partner. Very friendly environment. I loved that I didn't feel pressured at all. They were able to see all three of us. LOVE my new tattoo. Easily one of my favorites . Will have to return for more next time I'm in town! Thanks y'all!! read more

I knew they didn't have too much time for walk-ins, but I tried one weekday afternoon without an appointment to get some quick work done--some script on my arm. They took me next door to Black Saints and Jared Powell squeezed me in between his appointments. It took me awhile to pick out the calligraphy and Jared was pretty patient, giving me a font book and didn't really rush me even though he had an appointment coming up when I kept making him reposition the stencil (he had to redraw the stencil since it pretty much ripped from so many redos). I forget exactly, but I think I paid $60 for about 15 minutes of ink, the 20 minutes it took me to position my tattoo, and the half hour that he took to consult and sketch. Jared was very professional and told me about tattoo conventions and even recommended me a few tattoo shops in San Francisco. read more

I've found the only place I will get tattoos again. I've had Jennifur do two smaller pieces, and JP at Black Saints has done one larger piece. I've also had several piercings (over an almost ten year period) by Neil, the house piercer at Monkey Wrench who is without a doubt the most talented (and known!) piercer in the area. It should be noted that Monkey Wrench Tattoo and Black Saints Tattoo are essentially the same place only separated by a stairwell. The beauty of Monkey Wrench/Black Saints, is that the several artists that work there all differ greatly in their styles. There's Joe Leonard- the color master, Jared Powell- the king of lines, and several others, all talented. Anyone looking to get some work done is bound to find an artist that they like personally, and will do the tattoo that THEY, the client, is looking for... and of the finest quality. Also, the place is CLEAN. And yet, they make the sterility amazingly comfortable. This is not your parents' tattoo parlor. Friendly, well-lit, and professional. read more

I don't understand why there are not more reviews of Monkey Wrench. The place is great. Nice, clean, friendly, lit well, easy to find, parking, etc, etc. Plus they keep you more than amused when getting work done. Mark is great. He's been doing my stuff for years now, and I have never left unsatisfied. NEVER. I've gone in w/ crappy sketches for him to "fancy up", and he has always made them turn out fantastic. Mark rocks my socks! Detail galore, colors bright and blended, all around great stuff. I've never had anyone else do any work, but Joe Leonard is very well known and does amazing stuff. And Jen (although she never seems to be there) does pretty great stuff too. Great Place. Go there, make an appt w/ any of em, make your appt, pay (in CASH, not credit/debit/gift cards!), and leave happy. read more

The last tattoo I got, I got from Jennifer at Monkey Wrench. The best quality. You won't be disappointed. Unless you change your mind about it five minutes too late. But that's nobody's fault but your own, yeah? The place is cool inside, although I sort of missed the skanky tattoo parlor vibe I'm used to being assaulted with upon entering these places. It was well-lit and had good ambiance. Not at all dim and dusty and there wasn't even one tooth-free, half-naked, sweaty man in sight. But you can't have everything, right? There's still plenty of scary things to look at. Scary to sweet little girls like myself. Cool to all the hardcore, gritty folks. I will go back there to finish up my arm just as soon as I have the money to spend on such things. A great place! read more

A friend and I came here in December to see JP. He did a fantastic job throughout the whole process of taking down our ideas, designing our tattoo and doing a quick, efficient job on our tattoos, which turned out awesome. I'd recommend him to anyone. read more

Joe Leonard. I've had my last four tattoos done by Joe and I don't plan on seeing anyone else. He does absolutely AMAZING work and is a true artist (literally- check out his latest collection of paintings entitled "Offerings from The Bloody Bucket " recently put out by Snakeface), but honestly the coolest thing about Joe is Joe himself. He's the most down to earth tattoo artist I've ever met who after about ten minutes of hanging out with, makes you feel like he's been a buddy you've had for years. Every time I leave I feel like I'm leaving one of my friends and get a little sad wondering when I'll see him next... It's far from your average tattoo experience. You will not be faced with the standard tattoo shop punk rock airs I had come to fear (I can embarrassingly recall at the sophisticated age of twenty years old- ha!, I got my second tattoo at a semi-famous shop in Chicago. I requested the ever popular at the time, 3 stars on the inside of my wrist. Two of the shop kids actually smirked and rolled their eyes at one another when I explained what I wanted. I was horrified but got the tattoo anyway). Again, as far as Joe's work is concerned, I've had strangers ask to take a picture of some of the tattoos he's done; he's that good. Although he's more known for the work he does in color, I've had him do all black & white and I couldn't be more pleased. The most recent piece being a portrait of my late grandparents which looks uncannily like the photo I brought in. In fact, I think it's even better. Call now to make an appointment. When he's taking them, he usually books up several months in advance. read more

I have gotten the majority of my tattoos from monkey wrench. Joe is pretty much the best at what he does. You can tell he will be a good tattoo artist by his soft, limp wristed handshake. I say that you can never trust a tattoo guy with a firm grip. Over the past 12 years I have gotten a bunch of tattoos and also 2 paintings from him. He is the real deal and genuine nice guy. Also, Jenifur did my taco bell tattoo which is a real fan favorite, it usually gets me at minimum a free drink when I drive thru. I havent been in for awhile, but I will say that its time that they got a new stereo with some decent speakers. Come on, its time. read more

I've gotten my work done from Mark here at Monkey Wrench, excellent work, I just wish he wasn't so swamped with requests. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because it is almost like I can't give them money to do work on me, its not that I'm hyper critical, but I do want custom pieces done and I want to see a rough draft before I commit...can't even get that far sometimes. It has left me with wondering who else is out there to get the job done and actually wants to get paid and not just do nautical stars and hearts on women's lower backs. Joe on the other hand, from what I've seen has been the star of the shop, he has done massive amounts of work on my close friends and they have all been overly satisfied with his talent. The shop is clean, well placed and reasonably priced, I would recommend stopping by. read more

Great experience at the monkey wrench. My friend took me in to get my second tattoo and Aaron was able to create a dope tat with everything I asked for right away. Awesome staff, the shop is really clean and everyone is professional. Mark Hansen is amazing, I I had him tattoo a painting and it looks just like the original. This shop is better than any other in Santa Rosa, even before you get the work done! It is kinda small but since there is dual shops it more than makes up for the space. Its nice and comfortable atmosphere, I dont like to feel like I am walking into the dr. office but I dont want to feel like I am walking into a bar either.
