Awesome little bar in the heard of Kemah. Super attentive bartenders. Nelly has taken care of me a few times, she's amazing. The menu is pretty solid for what feels like a smaller venue and the food is 5 stars all the way. Prices are very reasonable for the are, especially compared to some other nearby spots. They have some infused cocktails that are home made that are probably my favorite beverage. I'd go here any day for lunch or dinner. Monday night steak night. The food was really good. The service was lack luster. $127 dollars spent on a night out that was destroyed by a waitress. Rude bar MAID. I have to pick a star but would not even give it that! I have visited Monkey the past 12 years maybe 2xs a month or go to a party w friends and have never been doubted that my tab would b paid. To ask me if I'm going to pay my tab after ordering another beer was just rude! Of course my tab will b paid! I am a local, live 3 blocks away and know all the bartenders there, never a prob. Great place! The owner is very nice, bartender is great, and a great location to hang out and have fun. Tons of fun up and down the whole block and loved staying in the apartment above the bar! Similar to it's neighbor, Palapa's, Monkey Bar is one of the few places I love to hang when I'm in Kemah. The service is always efficient and they showcase great local bands on the weekends. It's super casual with a great patio that catches a nice breeze off the bay. They have a pool table and a few scattered video games, and even a dart board I think. The only downside is that people can smoke inside, and for that reason I spend most of my time here on the patio. The music is typically alternative rock, and the bands are the same genre. The staff is super friendly and make a stiff drink. On my last visit, I had forgotten to close out my tab and realized when I got home. I called the bar and told them I was on my way back to get it. Just as I pulled up, I saw the bartenders heading to their cars and caught them. The girl was so nice and walked back to the bar to close out my tab for me so I could get my card! This is one of the few places in "Galveston area" that i can say that I enjoyed the place as much as the company. Most times I go out down there I don't really care for the spots we go out, its always my friends that make the evening fun. But this place was the exception to the rule. Its had all the elements I like in a bar. Good prices, shuffle board, darts, and a big patio. I had a great time hanging out there. Its was good times all around. My only problem with it would be that there is smoking inside, did kind of make the ol eyes burn. I would have to say it has become my favorite spot in that area. Well I have had a great time here many times on the deck outside. Inside on a weekday it is low key and is mostly locals. One time there was no bartender for 15 minutes? They have draft and bottle beer as well as a full bar. They also have darts, shuffle board, and an internet juke box. A lot of time they have live music on the deck and it's a big party. They don't serve food but you are in luck because you can pop next door and get a gyro to go from Bakkhus! There are also several other bars just a few feet away! Over all it kicks the crap out of the Kemah Boardwalk tourist trap experience if you are an adult. read more

I've only been here twice but don't think I'll be back after last night. The first time we went was really busy and we sat outside so we weren't there long. We went there last night though and there were only 3 people including the bartender. To start off the bartender was sitting down drinking so there's that. A couple came in shortly after we did and they were already so drunk they couldn't even properly speak because they were slurring so bad. I didn't see how much she ended up serving them because they were behind me but they were served regardless. The bartender also took 2 shots back to back with that couple at that point. When the couple got up to leave they physically couldn't even walk and were holding onto poles to keep their balance outside. The husband almost knocked me off my chair because he was that intoxicated. I think this is a huge problem that they were even served and she watched them leave with no concern for them or others. Then I paid for a song to be played on the Touch Tunes radio they have and literally the second my song came on they changed it because they "didn't like that song". Terrible place! A group of us met here for drinks after dinner and we didn't stay long. The music was so loud outside on the patio that you could only have a conversation with one person and only if you were directly next to him/her. We went inside where the volume was a little better, but the bartenders were rude. Ladies, have a friend stand guard at the restroom door while you do your business because the lock didn't work. We finally got a clue and decided to leave. This is when I was told by the rude bartenders that they accidentally gave my credit card and tab to the wrong person. There was no manager on site and all I got was an "I'm sorry" from the rude bartenders. The next 30 minutes was spent on the phone with my bank fraud department, and this morning has been spent filing a police report. Needless to say, we will never return to the Monkey Bar. read more

To debunk some of the older reviews- was nervous about coming here when I saw them but drove by the location first and thought we would try it out. Nice mix of people age 20's to 50's. The girls bathroom has a lock on it. The bartenders were friendly and we met some nice people playing pool. Ryan is the coolest bartender alive! Always a blast when he's there. Basic beers and mixed drinks but it's a cool spot to stop in every once in a while. They do allow smoking inside the bar and it gets kind of smoggy in there so that's a bummer. I hate smelling like a pack of cigarettes after a night out. read more

Popped in here for a drink mid afternoon on a Saturday. M has an iphone app that shows local bar specials. Anyway, there were like 6 locals inside at the bar, no one else... anywhere. So, trying to avoid looking like a couple schmuck tourists, we ordered 2 Miller Lites and headed outside to sit on the huge patio. Even though it is down the road from the water, you can totally see the bay from the patio. This place is packed weekend evenings, so we will head back there another night. read more

I live in League City and there isn't much to do around but going out to the monkey bar and the palapas bar across the street some nights is a good time. The monkey bar has an outside deck and inside has plenty of room, a jukebox and even a shuffle table to play. Like I said, it's a cool place to go during the week and see some locals, and you can see the water across the way. read more

Smokey place. Everyone in there that Saturday afternoon was smoking. 19 people there and everyone of them were smoking. It looked like a neat spot, but I stayed for about half of my drink and had to leave to get some oxygen back in my lungs. read more

Love the casual feel of this bar. Great choices of Cold Beer and mixed drinks that aren't woosy. The bartenders are quick and pay attention to you. It's great to be able to run a tab for the evening (as long as you don't forget to close out & take your card!) Enjoy listenin and dancin to the local Live bands on the weekends.
