Where Buxton Tap House stands out in comparison to other (great) tied pubs I've recently visited…read more(e.g. New Inn, also in Buxton, and Cask Tavern in Poynton) is that it also has a great wine and spirits selection. I also tried a few beers with the help of the lovely bartender but while nothing took my limited uneducated fancy, for ale drinkers Buxton Brewery I think is pretty great and they have a lot of cask and keg lines here. Another major plus point is the food. The nachos weren't that great but the lamb burger was really tasty and the pulled pork burger was sensational (I ungracefully ate the scraps off my date's plate). His chair was a little uncomfortable for a tall person but otherwise the surroundings were good and I'd definitely recommend this place.

As far as I could see during my visit they have at least 10 different beers on tap, the majority of which were local Buxton ales. As well as local ales there was a massive range of bottled beers from all over the world. If you're visiting with someone who isn't a big ale fan then don't fret, there is also a good selection of spirits and wine on offer. We were unsure as to what to order as we weren't familiar with the local breweries, however after asking the bar tender for pale ale suggestions we were given a few samples to try. All our questions were answered and we were extremely happy with the service and suggestions given by members of staff. The decor inside is quirky with long wooden tables and long wooden benches as well as large blackboards detailing the beers and numerous different logos from the local breweries displayed on the wall. I was so glad to have found this place. I'd recommend it to all ale fans and I will definitely be returning in the future.

A fairly large place, it offers a decent selection of beers (including a number of hand pumped ales by Joseph Holt of Manchester) and an extensive menu that focuses on British food and pub grub. When I visited on a Saturday noon, the place was packed. And for good reason: The "rustic sharing board" (effectively a ploughman's lunch) I had was both generous and tasty, with a small pork pie, a Scotch egg, two slices of honey-roasted gammon, a big helping of local cheese, cut-up sausages, various sauces and pickles and a few slices of rather appetizing roasted white bread. I had a look around at other people's dishes and they all looked very good, too. The bar staff was friendly and efficient, and while Joseph Holt beers may not represent the pinnacle of British ales, they are well-made and were certainly kept fresh on the premises. Prices are pretty much what you would expect from a superior regional pub/restaurant, but there are several specials throughout the week. The décor is very much geared towards families: unfussy, clean, comfortable. Recommended!
