Maybe I'm getting better at my lobster-cracking, or these were a lot easier to eat! I was told that they have soft-shell and hard-shell lobster. With the platter, you'll also get a large ear of corn, dinner roll and cole slaw. And lemme tell ya.... It's A LOT of food!! But you can get it by itself or substitute sides, as well. I'm so glad we got to come here to mark 'eat a Maine lobster' off of our list. I can't think of a better place to do it!!

They have dedicated parking spots for customers. I called while driving from Brunswick to the airport... asked to have 6 "heavy" live lobsters boxed up for travel as carry-on for my flight. The call lasted about 4 minutes... I arrived about 30 min later... walked in... box was waiting for me and I walked out to my car parked directly in front of the door. WOWOWOW!!! If I had more time or lived locally I would be there weekly to pick up some fresh seafood... there were so many options and the place was super clean and everything looked fresh. We ordered a just a pound of clams and a 1.5 lb lobster and butter to share. You can also purchase some sides and drinks. In hindsight we could have brought our own bread, salad and wine or beer and that would have been OK. But the seafood was enough for us. Very low key, no frills, and the lobster couldn't be fresher. Love that kind of place for half the price of a lobster roll somewhere much fancier. We'll be back.

They're always helpful and charge the best prices I've ever seen. If they don't have exactly what you're looking for up at the main building, they'll go pull fresh lobsters for you from their docks. They also have great recommendations for other seafood you might be interested in locally (muscles, clams, crab, etc.) On Vinalhaven, your only choice is to support local, just the way it should be!

In short, they are the agent/broker for 300+ local fishermen...selling the freshest catch hauled in daily to the public. They always have a healthy inventory of different seafood and are open all year, which is exceptionally great for off-season travelers like me. Staff are exceptionally friendly and prices are fair. Their sales can also get you product for really cheap (for example, crab is currently 10 lbs / $20 yesterday). Another cool fact is that rare lobsters do end up here once in a while. They are obviously not for sale and will be sent to a lobster "sanctuary" that does not involve a warm bath. There was a blue lobster (1 in 2 million) and two Calico lobsters (1 in 30 million) in one of the holding tanks yesterday. This is something you won't have the opportunity to see at most (if not all) seafood markets.

We were staying in South Thomaston for a month and the owner of the VRBO highly recommended her. We stopped by on several occasions and picked up mussels, clams, and halibut (got lobster straight from the dock and oysters from local oyster farmers). The halibut was so supreme that we ordered 50lbs to take home. She had them flash frozen and we are now completely ruined as far as fresh halibut is concerned :) Great selection of wines and local ciders. The only drawback: the parking lot is bitch to get in and out of (tiny). Stayed in Maine for three months, all over the state. Most restaurants were an epic disappointment.. yes you're cooking it yourself and your wallet will know you were there, but this was worth the effort and every cent!
