Once inside though, you are welcomed by their vast assortment of support and offerings. Family owned and operated, they are authorized dealer for Baby Lock, Grace and Janome machines along with a wide variety of fabrics, thread, tools and notions making your sewing adventures a dream. Prices are on par with others and we were able to find out of print fabrics we couldn't find elsewhere. The staff was friendly and very helpful but I also loved the feeling as other "regulars" were shopping and you could tell that this was a welcoming shop. Definitely give them a visit if you are in the area - I only wish they had online shopping available if you aren't local.

The time and care that was taken to make sure this instrument made its journey to France unscathed was like nothing I've seen. It would not have gotten this care and treatment from the UPS store in Waco. I was expecting an amount for the services they gave but to my surprise it was 1/3 of what I thought I'd be charged. This is the difference between a mom and pop local business and the chains of big cities. If you have a shipping need in Hill County or surrounding area this is the place to use.

My wife's sewing machine wasn't working. She called them up and was invited to bring the machine…read morein. Fortunately the machine was still acting up so the shop could see exactly what the problem was. Turned out the machine needed a different bobbin, and they also showed her the correct way to thread the machine. Since she has been sewing heavier material and doeskin, they also suggested a "walking foot" to make the task easier. The only charge was for the walking foot, they didn't charge anything for getting the machine going and showing her how to use it. Lot's cheaper than buying a new machine!

However I think I took for granted just how lovely my LQS is until I started participating in the "All Texas Shop Hop" and experienced OTHER shops that I realized just how much of a gem we have. Fabric and Notion Selection at Poppy's is really great without being overwhelming. On the fabric side, I think there's a good balance between the blenders, batiks, and other quilting fabric compared to other stores I visited that were extremely heavy in only one type. Everything at Poppy's is of the highest quality so you can feel confident that it's money well spent. I've taken a few classes that were all taught by a true experts and artisans. I especially appreciate the Michelle is considerate of the variety in clientele, offering most classes both during the week as well as weekends. I love how every time you walk into Poppy's, you are greeted with a smile and a welcome. They are mostly organized by designer and collection with clear pricing on the shelves. Same with their precut selection since not all fat quarters are priced the same. They also sell and service a variety of machines and the staff was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The store is quite large and felt like there was more to see around every corner. Their size is good since they recently purchased another local shop and will need the space for everything that came with it.
