I went into the branch because I needed documentation showing that GECU no longer had a lien/hold on my 2002 truck, which I paid off back in 2009. I recently gave the truck to my friend's son and needed this documentation so I could obtain the title and transfer the vehicle into his name. I provided my Social Security number, identification, and all the information I had available. I was initially told that they could not find anything because the loan was so old. The employee at the front simply apologized and told me they did not have access to the information. I asked to speak with a supervisor because I could not understand how a financial institution that I have banked with for 31 years would have no way of locating records connected to a loan I had through them. At first, I continued receiving essentially the same answer--that because the loan was so old, they might not be able to find anything. I continued asking for someone who could actually help me. Eventually, the title department was contacted, and we were able to obtain the VIN. However, even with my Social Security number and VIN, I was again told that no documentation could be found because too much time had passed. At this point, I was extremely frustrated. I could not believe there was no records department, archived system, or other process available to assist a long-term customer in a situation like this. Finally, after almost an hour and after I had to become increasingly persistent, a supervisor from the title department came back and said, "I found something from 2005 that maybe can help." That is what disappointed me the most. Something was eventually found, but it took nearly an hour and repeated requests for additional assistance before someone went further and searched for it. A customer should not have to become upset or push repeatedly just to get employees to explore every available option. There should be a clear process for retrieving older records, especially documentation related to paid-off loans, liens, and vehicle titles. These records should be connected in some way to a customer's history with the financial institution. After being a customer for 31 years, I expected much better service, effort, and record accessibility from GECU. I hope management takes this experience seriously and reviews the process for assisting customers who need older loan or lien documentation.
