I rarely leave reviews and do so only for outstanding service as that person or company should receive good press or for exceptionally poor experiences as people should be aware of what they may be getting themselves into. Unfortunately, this review is the latter. We live in an area that often has high winds and we are constantly fixing our roof after storms, so decided to finally get a metal roof as the last roof we will ever need. We called Monarch Roofing to get a quote, they came out to measure, and we received the quote after making a few calls to their office in Wilmington. This should have been a red flag that we had to track down the quote, but we moved forward. The house is not large, but metal roofs are quite a bit more expensive than a shingle roof as one would imagine and after some research talking to builders in the area, their quote seemed within reason. After that, we needed to schedule an insurance inspection to determine if any of the replacement would be covered. It is customary for the roofing company to be on site when the inspector is there, and Monarch did request to be onsite for this. We scheduled a time and Monarch later asked that we move it due to a conflict that came up, so we did. They did not show up for the rescheduled appointment nor communicate with us that they would not be there. This was the second red flag, but they had good ratings online, so we assumed these were anomalies and moved forward and locked in the quote. Once we got approval from the HOA on the details of the roof (required in the neighborhood), we were looking to set a date for the installation. After a months long delay, our sales rep sent me a text letting me know a new DocuSign was being sent over which I assumed was just locking in the install date. When I opened the document, thankfully I reviewed it and did not blindly sign as they had the wrong amount listed and it was almost $100,000 (this is not a typo). I asked why the amount was wrong assuming it was just a clerical mistake. The response verbatim and I have the text showing this was 'Yes manufacturing and labor cost have significantly increased'. Mind you, there was no conversation about any price increase much less the significant amount it was raised, no warning of what was coming, just a dramatic price difference from what was already agreed to by both parties. We checked with a builder and other roofers in the area, and they indicated that there could be a very mild increase over a couple of months if we had not already locked in the price, but when we told them the increase Monarch tried to sneak into the DocuSign, it was clear Monarch was being unethical. I responded to the sales rep with 'That cannot be the response Monarch is giving. This is a straight bait and switch'. The response, well, there was no response. Emails, texts, multiple calls to Monarch have all gone unreturned. There were never any remotely contentious calls or interactions with Monarch up to this point, so we were honestly shocked at lack of professionalism and unethical business practices. I've never had something like this happen so felt compelled to take the time to warn others in the market for a new roof to be aware of how Monarch Roofing conducts business. read more
