I ran into this restaurant after exploring Lyon late into the night and making a few wrong turns. This is more of a neighborhood restaurant, but was one of the more memorable restaurants I visited while in Lyon - not just for the food, but for the friendliness of the patrons and staff.
In poor french I told the waitress that I do not speak french very well and would like to eat. She was kind and found me a place to sit and eat inside.
I could see and hear the local patrons outside enjoying conversation over evening dinner and drinks. While inside I met a local couple that were very friendly and reveled at the chance to practice their English conversational skills.
I met the man who runs the restaurant who happened to speak English, since he was from Australia (or was it New Zealand?). He recommended a beer that was outstanding to go with my meal. I also met the chef who was also very friendly and proud of his craft.
The daily menu (written on a chalkboard) was varied enough so a good choice was available, and all at reasonable prices. Listed that night (Ce Soir) with the help of google translate -
Choices En entree:
* Young mixed salad
* Pea and Soubrassade (a type of sausage?) soup
* Sardine rilettes with lemon jelly
* Fricassee of frogs and serrano (ham?)
* Terrine of chicken, and prune chutney
Choices En Plat:
* Vegetarian dumplings and legumes
* Sauted farmer chicken, olives and lemon
* Veal kidneys and sausage
* Cajun spiced angus steak
* Sandre (fish) steak with crab butter
* 1/2 Lobster gratin
* Cutlets of foie gras flambee
As it turns out I stayed until the restaurant closed chatting with the owner and chef, and was generously offered help to find my way back to city center.
When I return to Lyon, I look forward to having another fine and friendly meal at this restaurant. Highly recommended.
