Hmm. I don't know what other people are expecting or how they are getting food assistance when they do not need it. I am on permanent disability and groceries keep going up in price. I used to cook all the time but now my roommate is in charge of meals.. That doesn't work out great when it comes to edibility or not healthy frozen meals. Mom's Meals is made with real food. Depending on which meals you are eating, they taste better than hospital food! (And much better than my roommate's) They have the flavors of the food listed on the label. So the maple waffle with pork sausage, taste like maple waffle with a mild pork sausage. The meatball marinara sub comes with a whole wheat bun that you add the meatballs and sauce too. The meatballs are almost like meatloaf and the tomato sauce has pieces of tomato and other ingredients visible. I am not eligible for SNAP because I don't have a job but I survive on SSDI. Mom's Meals is a much better system, quality ingredients and taste than some other home deliveries. They stay good for 2 weeks but ship out to me weekly. Perfect? No. Edible? Yes Helpful? Extremely On time? Every time. For me, it is a lifesaver now that everything including groceries are so much more expensive but I have no more money than before. *Yes, setting up your online account is difficult but once set up the online website is simple to use. read more

Horrible service... I ordered one box of 14 meals and a box of veggies and fruit, 5 days later the 14 meals showed up, the package was good, no problems. The veggie box im still waiting for it 2 months later they are shipping it every week and ever shows up. Multiple times I called and they keep saying they will send it... still waiting. The ingredients are not the best, this are very cheap meals... they use a lot of processed ingredients that are not the best when this meals are for people who are in need of balanced nutrition. Its too expensive for what you get... you can buy real food with the amount of money you pay... the only thing that's worth is that those in need can have an easy meal. It is a good idea and helpful for seniors. But the company providing it sucks. Their website does not work correctly. Once you order one type of mean plan, there is no option to change it, unless it's a real long term meal plan. My husband underwent a surgery and we asked for low sodium meal plan. But after getting the same meals two shipments, we wanted to change it to high protein or heart healthy options. And they can't change anything right away. I received a package from Mom's Meals because my insurance provider ordered it for me after I went to a small emergency room at the beginning of this year for an ankle injury. I was never even admitted to the hospital, so I honestly don't understand why they thought I needed meals sent to me in the first place. After reading the bad reviews online, I was already a little concerned -- and now I can say the bad reviews are absolutely true. I just received these meals today, and they are beyond disgusting. I tried the rice and chicken, and after one bite I instantly lost my appetite. Even just microwaving it made the whole kitchen smell awful. The texture was strange, the flavor was bland and off-putting, and it honestly tasted like one of the worst frozen meals you could imagine. I would rather eat McDonald's than this garbage. To make matters worse, I ended up with a stomachache after taking just one bite. It's extremely disappointing that this is what gets sent out to people who are supposedly recovering and in need of proper nutrition. Just almost got creamed by a moms meals delivery vehicle. Riding bike path, got to crosswalk. (BY A SCHOOL MIND YOU) Pressed flashing light button. Looked both ways Everyone stops so I proceeded to go and a black Jeep comes flying through closest to my lane... and 2 seconds later... was a mom's meals delivery truck also speeding in a school zone zips by. Called to cancel this service because I was unaware it automatically renewed itself and was raising my husbands blood sugar over 300. The First Lady I spoke with said I was not authorized to speak for my husband and insisted on speaking with him even though I told her he had Alzheimer's. Found her to be rude. She asked my husband if it was ok if she spoke to me about his account and he said yes. Then she proceeded to transfer me to another representative that said she needed to add me to the account. She tried several times, unsuccessfully, for quite a while. Finally, she said i needed to have my husband's insurance conference me with them and provided me with a number. When the insurance representative called they said all they needed was to have my husband grant me authorization which is what occurred when I called the first time. Very ignorant employees. These are pretty standard, ultraprocessed TV dinners. The meat patties, meatballs, and chicken are typically ultraprocessed, sponge textured, chunks of chewy nastiness. The meals are filled with emulsifiers, fillers, preservatives, a ton of added sugar, and hydrogenated fats. They claim in their "Food as Medicine" website section that ultraprocessed, high sugar foods with weird ingredients and hydrogenated fats are unhealthy but that's exactly what they are. In addition, most of the vegetables are undercooked and difficult to eat. Ever try to eat a half raw potato? It's unfortunate that as a disabled person, this is what my insurance gives me and I have no choice. read more

I broke my back in an accident and the insurance company has been bringing in meals. Mom's meals suck. It's not that they taste bad, which they do. But sometimes the containers are underweight, not dated, broken, have broken seals, are incomplete, or just missing entirely. I got a meatball sandwich with no meatballs. Apple crisp with no apples, just a pile of dry granola. I got one type of breakfast meal that had so little in the container that they burned up in the microwave. Mom's meals said they were having an extremely hard time getting those meals because of a supply chain issue, but didn't notify the customer. Lately, milk, side nutritionals (such as burritos with no tortillas), sides, and desserts have been missing and not even listed anymore on the paperwork included in the Box. I was told today that the phone employees are not being informed as to whether it's a manufacturing issue, a supply issue, or something else, but they are getting a lot of complaints. After requesting a manager contact, I got an email from the manager telling me if I don't like it, go somewhere else. I'm notifying the insurance company and the state insurance commissioner. I just received our first week of mom's meals through my husband's Medicare advantage plan. I specifically told the nurse my husband must have a low carb low sodium diet due to heart disease and diabetes... normally we would have no more than 50 carbs a day since carbs turn into sugar. These meals are ridiculous! Pasta, white rice, brown sugar apples.... who feeds that to a diabetic??? I called and was told when it is through insurance they can only pick one options so the sodium was selected well the lowest sodium meal was 340... Per the American heart association low sodium diet is under 140 per meal! SO when I called they said under 600 is what they consider low sodium... By who's standards?? I was counting on these meals to take stress off of me while my husband recovers, looks like I am back to cooking again! read more

We look forward to having new meals to choose from as the selections get old. Last year's turkey dinner was delicious, but skimpy on the amount of turkey. I ordered 5 of this year's turkey meal. They are inedible. Very hard chunks of some meat ground up with bones and gristle. Can't even chew it. For most of us, Mom's Meals are our 1 main meal of the day. Then the pumpkin loaf. All 5 were covered in mold, see picture. Unacceptable. Customer service rep was very professional and is replacing these meals. I'd like the management team to serve this meal on Thanksgiving, seriously, nothing else. Having vegetables is important. More often, healthy veggies are replaced by apple sauce or fruit crisp. I am homebound and relied on this company for meal delivery. They use GLS for shipping and unfortunately they are unreliable. On too many occasions, I did not receive my meals until days later and the ice packs were thawed and the food was warm. I stopped using them for a year then foolishly decided to give them another try. No improvement, GLS delivered two days late. I made this abundantly clear when I spoke with the representative from Mom's meals. One meal was great. Her continuous blood glucose monitor showed elevated but controlled glucose levels and her heart and blood pressure remained relatively normal. Meal two: mom's blood sugars spiked to OVER 300! And her arrhythmias were triggered! I looked at the meal information. Even though I saw vegetables and meat in front of me with a caloric intake of 440... sit down for this... THERE WERE 20 GRAMS OF ADDED SUGARS!!! We are not talking total carbohydrates, we are talking table sugar amount equivalentto a GD snickers candy bar! How how HOW does Mom's Meals even get one star let alone 2? Like most people, I got a 2 weeks supply of meals for free from my insurance company for having major surgery. I had explained BEFORE this box was delivered, that I cannot get it...as in IMPOSSIBLE to get it..if it is not brought directly to my apartment door on the third floor. I was about to go into surgery for total hip replacement, and no one would be available in my 3 story apartment home to bring that box up to me. I was told, "Yes, that will be no problem. We will bring it up to your door on the third floor." Was I told that this is no guarantee since they also use UPS and FedX to deliver these boxes? No. So of course the box sat outside...on a 100 degree day...and there was nothing I could do about it. For a company that loves to tout about how they love to cater to seniors, those mobility issues, and those like me who are 64 and just had major surgery....it is clear they couldn't care less. I called after the box sat there and could not get to me and the rep stated. "It was delivered by UPS and they do not get the notes about where to leave the boxes." No matter how I tried to explain to him how I set this up, he was in his own world, as though it should make perfect sense to me that this box was sent by UPS. Of course it was sent by UPS. Of course I should have known that. I emailed Mom's Meals (because regardless of the fact that they claim to have a "chat with us" option, it goes into an email. Not chat. I got the same response. This 2 week supply of food was supposed to be my only source of food. The only way I could get food, because I live alone and have no family. Does Mom's Meals care about a 64 disabled woman who recently went through major surgery and made it clear that she cannot get this food unless it's brought directly to her door? Absolutely not. Read the reviews. 99.9 percent tell you how truly horrible the meals are. As in inedible horrible. They also claim to "cater to people with dietary restrictions" and "giving people options for low salt, low fat and vegetarian options." They do the exact opposite. Not only are the meals inedible, they are very high in salt and fat, have little to no options for dietary restrictions and desserts are LOADED with sugar. The meals are heavily loaded with preservatives. Recovering from surgery? Eating these this will surely make you feel even worse. Do yourself a favor....when your insurance company tells you "it's free", don't fall for this trap. Go out and get yourself a few weeks supply of frozen meals. Mom's Meals has been a huge portion of my monthly nutrition for a while since SSDI refuses to pay me more than half of minimum wage. Their quality massively reduced when they switched to powdered fat free milk instead of shelf stable milk and now they lost my renewal paperwork and I will have to try to not starve for two weeks because they are in no hurry to get me my missed box of meals. I have tried Mom's Meals for three months for my special needs daughter. I believe they have the right concept, as there is a need for this type of service. But they are NOT as healthy as they claim. High Glycemic Index: The total carbohydrates in their meatloaf meal is 66 grams (Yikes, that's a lot). When I look at the ingredients there is a lot of sugar and ingredients that raise your blood sugar levels (both labeled and "hidden"). These meals contain highly processed ingredients. I understand having preservatives, but not all these yucky ingredients. If you are diabetic or can't eat gluten, you should think twice or do research on the ingredients in these meals. They use starchy veggies (corn, peas, potatoes, or carrots) most of the time, which also raises blood sugar levels. On top of all that, they add desserts to most of their dishes which are very sweet with tons of sugar. As for the taste: My husband and I tried a few to see how they tasted and we threw them away. For example, the meatloaf isn't what you think. I'm not sure how much meat is in their meatloaf and it is exceptionally chewy. Meatloaf should not be chewy and it should taste as if it has meat. And the ingredients are over-the-top for such a simple meal. My special needs daughter said she would rather go to Walmart and select frozen meals (like Lean Cuisine), using her healthy benefits card. And this says a lot! There are healthier choices like Healthy Choice, Buddha Bowl, Primal Kitchen, etc. Benefit Programs at Stores? Yes, many types of benefits cards are accepted at stores. If you are taking care of someone, you might want to call your local grocery store to see if they accept your benefits program (Walmart seems to accept quite a few programs--they accept our daughter's UCard from United Healthcare). I was referred to Mom's Meals through my medical plan. At first it was good, but then it became redundant. The price they charge is good. However, it was almost the same boring menu all year long. Mom's Meals did save me a lot of money with meals and not eating out. However, after I had ordered for over a year without the menu substantially changing, I got tired of eating the same food over and over again. In addition, I seemed to have one problem after another with the delivery service of their meals. When I called them, I was told, I am sorry after the package leaves here it is out of our hands. Maybe so, however, I would think they would be concerned if their customers are experiencing lousy delivery service. They also told me they do not have a lot of customers. I've been receiving mom's meals for several years. I'm really glad that John is the living my meals not UPS or FedEx now I'm getting my mailboxes in tax which is a wonderful thing thank you John. But I must say the desserts they're giving out now the cookies in particular the chocolate cookies and a ginger cookies are harder than hockey pucks to absolutely worthless as far as eating for the elderly to have false teeth or no teeth so they go in the trash each month which is a shame to waste food. The food is so-so. Portions are small and not a lot of seasoning is added. However, the servings are quick and easy to heat so the convenience adds an extra star. After spending 18 days in the hospital, these meals were greatly appreciated for the ease of cooking and the variety, but taste wise, food could use some extra seasonings to enhance the flavor. read more
