We had a patio and fire pit installed in 2021 by Mike and his crew. I was sent to pick out the…read morepaver and fire pit stone styles and sent all the information to Mike. Weeks go by (supply shortage/issues from the pandemic) and the pavers come in the "grand" size version of the pavers I sent him. He apologized and said we could reorder the other size but it would take weeks and, because they were smaller, it would be more expensive for installation. Annoying. We decided to go ahead, despite them not having the texture we would have gone with if ordering the grand size (we decided on smooth for the smaller size and if we would have went with the larger "grand" size, would have done textured). Not a great way to start the project. The pavers go in and we find the fire pit was installed with the wrong stones as well. We ordered tumbled, they installed smooth. Couldn't really go back since everything was glued down. Not sure why I even bothered picking the materials out to begin with? Another disappointment, especially with such a large investment. They had some pretty awful cuts at first in the border and came back to fix those for the most part. Next issue was the sand - they tried a new brand on our patio and the sand needed to be installed at least 3 separate times because it would fail and come out of the cracks with any rain/water. The rock beds we agreed upon were not prepped, leaving me with the job of moving all of the topsoil from the driveway to the backyard. This wouldn't have been as big of a deal if not for the steep slope and lack of gate since we couldn't walk on that side of the house until the ground firmed up again and the new grass had a chance to grow. I actually had to remove part of our fence on the other side and make a ramp for the wheelbarrow. It would have taken them maybe 10 minutes using the bobcat as we originally planned. In addition, the fire pit ring stone cracked within a few months due to the internal ring (or entire fire pit installation) being off-center and putting pressure on it during the winter. They also damaged our tree with the bobcat. We had a new fire pit ring installed by the crew that remains unglued, cracked pavers and a fence gate that is still much lower and difficult to open/latch after they replaced it following finished the patio. Our fence was also damaged by the bobcat. I wish I didn't have to write this, but I've reached out to Mike each summer to try to resolve these issues and he has now stopped responding entirely. We were told there is a 5-year warranty and clearly that is not honored by this company. Would not recommend.

They worked with us to modify their original designs to fit our budget. The work included a stone patio, a dozen plus trees and evergreens, plantings, and sodding an area previously overgrown. We have referred them to family and friends--three of those referrals have resulted in projects--and until recently, trusted them without hesitation. Historically, price transparency was something they were willing to provide. Unfortunately, something has changed. Most recently, we were quoted $30-35K for a relatively straightforward mudroom remodel and back door installation. When the formal bid came in at a single lump sum number over $40K with some modest scope additions, we asked for additional transparency into that singular number to understand how much each part of the project was costing so we could determine where adjustments could be made. We were told that a further breakdown of the lump sum would not be provided. Over the next two weeks, we removed multiple significant items from the project scope, yet the total price barely changed in response. We asked repeatedly for greater transparency to understand what was still comprising the lump sum price we were being quoted and never received it. At a certain point, the math just did not add up, and it became increasingly difficult to reconcile the number we were being quoted by Plekkenpol with the project scope. When we expressed frustration with the lack of clarity, the response was dismissive and unhelpful. We were told that regardless of project size--even on significantly larger projects--additional price transparency would not be shared and that we should trust them that we are getting the best price. To be clear, this was not about the money--it was about transparency and partnership. We simply wanted to know what we were being charged for. Because Plekkenpol would not tell us how they arrived at their lump sum price, we ultimately chose to end our long-standing relationship and move on. We recently recommended to another family that they consider Plekkenpol, but after this experience, feel obligated to advise them not to proceed due to Plekkenpol's unwillingness to provide transparency in pricing.
