Molineux Stadium is home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, at the time of writing this of the English Premier League (but knowing Wolves they probably won't be in it for long), is 3 years older than the likes of St James' Park and Goodison Park, it is one of the oldest grounds I've visited, being opened (and built) in 1889, but the stadium has been "renovated" since then.
Traditionally it is an old stadium, in terms of going straight to your seats from the gate without a concourse you'd often see at newer stadiums such as Wembley and the Etihad Stadium.
I visited here earlier in the season for the 0-0 draw between Wolves and my club, Manchester City, away fans are located in the Steve Bull Stand, and this ground remains one of the few stadiums I've been too where away fans are located on the east/west sides of the ground, not directly being the goal, another example of this was Goodison Park.
The view at the ground for me was quite poor with multiple obstacles in the way of viewing, including stewards, television cameras and advertising stands, there also was an issue with stewards standing covering the disabled section, meaning people with wheelchairs/guide dogs etc were unable to see part of the game, with the game level and a last-minute free-kick this caused quite a stir and really is not something you want, especially when paying a lot of money for a ticket, throughout the game stewards were rude and even stopped myself (and others) from coming forward to clap the players off the pitch as they come closer towards the fans at the end of the game, this is probably the only ground that has done this, with stewards at most other stadiums being friendly and allowing it.
The seats at the ground also were old fashioned, I did notice one chair which went alongside a disabled person which was basically a worn down, dirty chair instead of the traditional match seat which also was laughably terrible, which helped match the standards of Wolverhampton Wanderers, of course, who is the club that played here.
Getting from the city centre to the stadium also is a little difficult with the best possible route being on foot, as it is under a mile, a lack of signposts and the ones that are there being confusing, and many large buses and coaches obstructing the route, especially near the ground doesn't help. There are multiple hotels nearby in case you need to stay for a night game, including a Novotel and a Premier Inn I passed on my way back to the train station after the game, which also is heavily staffed (police offers) and a parking area, where one might want to park if travelling with the car, although I'm not sure of the prices there.
The Molineux Stadium in most regards from getting there too the overall match experience is a really poor ground, and most things regarding the stadium (even the result I'm sad to admit) went wrong, so I sadly feel the stadium as a whole is just a huge letdown, I'm not sure of any plans to relocate but this old stadium really isn't something to be proud of and in my opinion sadly deserves a single one-star rating, which also means I have given Molineux Stadium one star for every LEGITIMATE goal in a game, which was courtsey of an amazing header from one of the worlds best defenders, Aymeric Laporte. read more
