It was a busy day and were getting home late so We ordered Door Dash from this yummy place for the first time today. I read reviews and everyone raved about the chips and salsa so we placed an order for the small (not individual) size. It was a lot! Made me wonder what the large size would be like. Chips 10/10, Salsa 6.5/10 was good but not mind blowing. No complaints! Handsome Hubster ordered the carne asada tostada salad no beans 10/10. IT WAS DELICIOUS! The asada was sooo yummy and they did not skimp. Probably the best tostada salad we have ordered since moving to OC 5.5 yrs ago. Two of my favorite things is Chile Relleno and Beef Flautas so I ordered the 2 item combo. They Relleno 10/10 was the best I have ever had. Saucey, cheesy and the pepper had a nice little hint of heat. This is everything I have been looking for in a Chile Relleno!! The beef Flauta 10/10 was stuffed with shredded beef and crispy but not greasy!! Tasted so fresh! Beans and rice are really yummy too! Rice is nice and moist and beans are creamy and flavorful!! I didn't even finish half of mine. So glad I have lunch and maybe dinner tomorrow!! I cant believe we have lived this close for 5.5 months and have just discovered this GEM! Just good down home cooking mexican food! I could taste Abuelitas love! When we were done scarfing down the food my hunkster looked at me and said "I think we have found our place!" I think we found our new go to Mexican spot! What is crazy is how long I've had this place bookmarked but never stopped in. My husband and I both had the wet burrito I opted for the carnitas with no beans and he got the Al pastor. Both were good but the carnitas was wonderful, super tender and moist. Molcajete Grill in HB did not disappoint. My only beef is entry and egress from this parking lot and get lucky to get a good spot. But once inside this quaint little hole in the wall type restaurant with about an occupancy of 10, you'll see clear menus on the walls by the counter. Chili Relleno Ala Carte for the lovely missus and the #36 Carnitas Plate for me. Unfortunately the times are hard and you must pay for chips and dip. She was friendly and got the To Go orders to the kitchen. We marveled at the decor and the packaged food was brought to our table. A big thanks because once we got home, the feast began. The missus was happy with her Chili Relleno and liked the red sauce as well as the fresh Salsa.. My Carnitas Plate was a good portion of Meaty chunks of porky goodness and the green quack and onion salsa was a good way to stuff my choice of the corn tortillas. Fluffy Mexican Rice and a savory Mazatlan style creamy refried beans topped the container. This place has really good taco plates and I appreciate that they let me replace my beans with more rice!!! Speaking of their rice this is one of the best Mexican rice I've had because sometimes it's usually dry but this place is fluffy and moist! We ordered some takeout for us and our neighbors. I got the #16 Deluxe Molcajete Wet Burrito with Carnitas and done fajita style. I loved it! Wife got the #22 Tamales with chicken. She loved that. Neighbor guy got the #21 Chili Relleno and Beef Tamale combo. He loved that. Note there's a typo on their menu and the #20 actually is Chili Relleno and Enchilada. Neighbor lady got the Molcajete Tostada Salad and said it was fine. Apparently the tortilla was a bit stale. We also got a large cups and salsa and a large guacamole. Both of which were excellent! Only reason why I'm giving 2 stars cause the service was good. Took our orders correctly and food came out quick. Small restaurant plenty of seating not a lot people there when I showed up. I'm coming from LA where I must say our street vendors have better tasting food then this place. I was starving and we saw it was called Molcajete so I assumed they would be serving Molcajete in a Molcajete Bowl with several meats with that good sauce. They do not serve any type of dish in a volcanic rock bowl. So I decided to go with the sopes. Yea sopes tasted as they were frozen and thawed. Shredded chicken had no flavoring. Overall just not good Mexican food. Way better places I'll rather eat at. Thanks for the food though cause I really was starving. Won't be back. Wet burrrrito? Yes please. My family was surprised, I rarely buy or choose to eat a burrito. I'm a three taco kind of gal. But there were no tacos with the molcajete name of approval on them (don't worry tacos are still good and my brother recommends the fish taco) so I stretched myself and feel that I had the best meal on the table. I chose the carnitas meat and it was so tender, flavorful, and juicy, I ate way more than intended. The other part of the Molcajete experience is Silvia. She is such a lovely and welcoming person that my grandma felt compelled to introduce us all to her after one or two prior visits. Anyways, I definitely recommend the molcajete burrito. read more
