I was looking for a place to kill some time before a meeting at the adjacent refinery. This place has a ton of character, prices are super reasonable, and they have ample space and seating for customers with Wi-Fi. I go here often as it's close to my boyfriends house. We've had a few experiences with bad burritos and breakfast sandwiches but coffee is kinda rare. I'm a barista of 3 years so I really appreciate good coffee. Today I had my drink made almost complete opposite of what it should've been and it was just disappointing. I ordered an iced white on white americano with 4 shots, caramel and cream. I'm not sure if the girl was new or what but she made my drink as a mocha which was upsetting as I can't drink milk in bigger portions. I love coffee so much that I have taken classes on different aspects of the beverage. So when I read about how their coffee is sourced; I had to make it a point to go on our vacation... plus it bears my great name, "Joe". We had an affogato, iced mocha, a decaf cappuccino, GF peanut butter cookie and banana bread. Folks...let me tell you...this espresso was one of the best I've ever had. The shots were pulled so well and the taste was amazing. The affogato was delicious. The mocha was incredible. Even the way they make their decaf is a pleasant and flavorful surprise. That banana bread was some of the best I've had in a long time. Just like my grandparents made. In case you couldn't tell, I highly recommend coming here. We thought the coffee was fine. I wasn't super impressed with darker roasts, but did find the barista and cashier knowledgeable about coffee. I would not buy whole bean coffee from them though, because it didn't look fresh at all in the plastic self-fill containers. I also want to highlight their unadvertised and very lame "supply chain surcharge". Moka Joe isn't the only one suffering from those yet they feel worthy of the fee? Here in Anacortes for a weekend getaway and decided to come here for a cup of coffee after receiving a recommendation from a coffee shop in LaConner. I had the New Morning, medium roast, French Pressed and my husband had the Porter Blend, dark roast, French pressed. The coffee is phenomenal. We were able to pick our own beans, grind them and then the ladies behind the counter run it through the French press for ya. The cafe is adorable, clean and welcoming. The staff are amazing. While sitting at the counter, enjoying our coffee, the ladies behind the counter take the time to have a conversation with you while they are buzzing away, toasting bagels, and other yummy treats (we had a nice soft scone-went great with our coffee, and making numerous different coffee drinks. A couple months back my sister and I visited the Moka Joe in Anacortes, one of there employees was completely rude and ignored us and called us 'those people' to her coworker while their cafe was empty. I emailed them and complained, the CEO responded defending his employee and told me that we had misunderstood, that the restaurant was probably busy when she said it, he further said all their employees take a multicultural "class". I have the whole conversation saved on my phone and I tell everyone when the subject comes up not to support a business who's owner or 'CEO' doesn't know the first thing about customer service or even how to simply apologize for his employees bad behavior.
