Save the Meow Meows Cat Lounge

Save the Meow Meows Cat Lounge

I've been coming to Save The Meow Meows for a while now, and honestly I think every time I go is a…read morebetter experience than the last! You can really tell how much attention, care, and work they put into giving their cats a good home. Every cat has to start somewhere, and STMM gives them a great environment to learn to socialize and adapt to not being in the dangerous situations that they were rescued from! I've watched many of their cats go from extremely anti-social to snuggly in their time with this organization. I have adopted two cats from them, and helped a roommate adopt one as well. They are extremely helpful and as long as you communicate, they give you a lot of grace throughout the adoption process! If you're not looking to adopt a cat, you're also just free to hang out and play with the kitties! I end up going just for a third space to do homework and stuff! They have snacks and drinks for sale that you can enjoy during your stay as well. They also have a ton of great goodies in the shop portion of the space, and you can even buy collars or accessories for the lounge cats to wear! Overall, I've never had a bad experience here. This place has been my escape when going through difficult times, and the staff are genuine people that will connect with you. I cannot recommend coming to this place enough!

I received an unwanted direct written message from Bert V., who is one of their representatives…read moreconfirming that less than one week went by and they gave Lois to someone with another cat so they could "bond." .... That message validated the exact concern I raised in my original review, and I am even more upset now than I was before. I cannot understand separating an EXTREMELY bonded brother and sister, only to place one of those cats into another home with the expectation that she form a new bond with a different cat!? OF COURSE THE CATS DIDNT EXIBIT THE BEHAVIORS THEY WERE STILL SCARED it was less than a week are you kidding me?!! It's so clear to me this place just wants to turn the cats over and make a profit. This place pulls in almost half a million dollars per year and they DO take salary's - this is all public record. They're all about MONEY and NOT the cats. So after Bert upset me all over again with this info he then had the audacity to send me ANOTHER message less than 24 hours after I specifically asked him not bring this up again (see texts). And He did this after I asked him to pick up another cat he had left dumped at my home months ago....he then tried to BRIBE ME to take down my review bc ONLY THEN he would be willing to pick up the cat he left dumped at my house!! Evil. ...So Instead of simply handling that responsibility, he chose to bring up something he knew would upset me further and try to bribe me. Based on my personal experience, the person I dealt with privately is very different from the public image he presents as an animal rescuer. If you want me to take down my review, trying to bribe me isn't going to work..but he knew that he just wanted cut the wound deeper. I strongly believe this organization should also take a closer look at the people it partners with and allows to facilitate placements. When someone is also involved in the communication between fosters, adopters, and a rescue, their words, representations and conduct matters too. What happened to this bonded pair is heartbreaking to me and I'll never forget this. I trusted repeated assurances that they would remain together, and learning that Lois was placed elsewhere so she could bond with another cat only made the situation more disturbing. Her poor brother Charlie he was so obsessed with his sister Lois and i know he will always be looking for her. Bert V. also gave me one more assurance the day before pick up that he had also communicated with this rescue and that I had been promised the bonded pair would never be separated. **See pictured text message** Pathetic, cruel and backstabbing.

I first learned about Morongo Basin Unity Home at a small women's festival in Joshua Tree. The…read morefestival was raising money and awareness for Morongo Basin Unity Home - which is a non-profit organization that helps victims of domestic violence and their families move towards living more independent and self-sufficient lives. I talked at length with a woman who was representing the non-profit at the intimate festival. Through our conversation and with my brief interaction with this exceptional non-profit at the festival- I was awed at what a unique and vital resource Morongo Basin Unity Home is for the community in Joshua Tree and for the surrounding area. The most impressive aspect of Unity Home is that they address such a diverse variety of issues when it comes to domestic abuse and its painful cycle. With their amazing team of staff, volunteers, and generous donations - they are able to help victims and their families with the following things: Supervised Visitation Assistance filing a Temporary Restraining Order Individual Counseling Parenting Classes State-Mandated 40 hr. Domestic Violence Training Food Basket & Hygiene Items Emergency Shelter for up to 30 Days Transitional Housing (for clients who apply and qualify) Teen Dating Violence Prevention Tools Legal Aid Childcare Court Support Morongo Basin Unity Home is available to the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week and you can call their hotline at any time for assistance and advice. The woman that I conversed with at the festival was so passionate about helping domestic abuse victims and she had been doing so for years. Morongo Unity Home believes that helping communities move past domestic abuse - involves getting the community involved - through education and awareness. I was particularly impressed to learn Unity Home has 30-beds for victims of domestic abuse for up to 30 days. This is an organization that is working directly with and for victims of domestic abuse in every way. For specific questions about their program - you can reach them here: (760) 366-1247. If you are in a crisis situation (even if you don't live near the area) or know of someone who is - you can call their hotline at (760) 366-9663. Trust.

The atmosphere can be hostile and even intimidating for a recent DV survivor. The approach is of authority lacking compassion. Management uses DV tactics to control their Staff and often terminates those who they can not easily control - as a result a very unstable and high Staffing change over. Again if you are in a dangerous situation and need immediate help do not hesitate to accept their help {if they even offer}... I have 10 years experience as a DV employee including facilitating the 40 hour mandated training to become an Advocate. I am also a DV survivor..

Had a lovely visit at Angel view this week. What a store! They really have it all--clothes,…read moreelectronics, interesting items and a robust art section--was interested in quite a few pieces. There was a great print of two zebras in the wild which was fantastic. Also, almost picked up a coffee mug that said "owl always love you" and had a picture of an owl. A lot of cute stuff. The radio was playing the local rock station, which was pretty cool to hear 90s classics from Tool (Sober) the Red Hot chili peppers (Zephyr) and Fuel (In My Hands Again). The customer service was on point--when I tried to buy a coaster, and I didn't understand where to insert my card into the reader, the cashier was very helpful by pointing out exactly where to insert the card. Overall, a pretty cool location, and I was surprised how much it was going off on a Tuesday afternoon--lots of locals perusing the various hidden treasures to be found at this intriguing angel view location.

The store is packed with a wide array of household items, clothing, jewelry, and loads of unique frames. Prices lean thrift-store fair--closer to mid-range than super-cheap--but that's reasonable knowing the proceeds support a good cause. Staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful, especially during donation drop off. Pros: * Wide, ever-changing inventory--clothing, housewares, vintage décor * Strong mission--100% of proceeds support programs for people with disabilities * Friendly staff and great donation-pickup service * Excellent prices relative to local vintage/thrift shops Cons: * Occasional dry spells and sizes not terribly organized * Some items may be priced much higher than expected for thrift
