I found many different styles of dress shoes at really great prices, but for the exact type I wanted they only had two choices. Thankfully, the one I picked was in stock in my size (they only had two pairs total in that style... so I really got lucky). When I asked about selection I was told that they never know what it coming in on the truck but they can look at other stores and have them shipped to me for an additional fee. This place reminds me of a shoe closeout store, but I dunno. These shoes don't feel like they will last forever and they certainly aren't Italian leather, but for $40 they are a good stop-gap until I find the perfect pair of shoes (and those likely won't be from this store). It is convenient to get in and out, and their prices seem fair. If you go in with low expectations or an near-empty wallet you may be pleasantly surprised.

Really nice selection of all the brands I like; Deer Stags casual dress shoes, Nike running, Skechers, and nice selection of winter boots. Price was not bad, and finding size 13, which is usually difficult, was not difficult here. It was slow for a rainy Saturday evening, but perfect for me. Enjoyed having whole store practically to myself, and just casually trying on different shoes with no fuss. Got two pairs of dress shoes, and new running shoes for $99 after coupon, which saved me $25. I can't complain about that, and will be back to get some winter boots later, after I find another coupon in my Sunday paper. :-)

A number of national chain stores have claimed to recycle the heavy plastic bags that are used as…read moremailers. Target is one of those businesses. I was so delighted when I recently showed up at the Target on the 3rd Avenue Extension to discover that the Walmart's claims were true. I didn't know what the recycling bin would look like. So I asked for help and I found the staff to be gracious. They walked me over to the recycling area which was neat and well maintained. The bin was empty and ready to accept donations. I believe strongly in sustainability and reducing my carbon footprint. I've been looking for recyclers in the Capital Region. Sometimes, I get disappointed. There are chain stores (should I name them all?) which claim to recycle but do a poor job of it. Their employees are nasty and their bins are dirty, neglected and overflowing. I'm happy to share the good news that both this Target at the Shoppes at Greenbush Commons as well as the nearby Walmart Supercenter are accepting plastic mailers for recycling and their employees have been welcoming. The recycling process time consuming and expensive. It's nice to know that some large businesses are giving back.

Moving to the East Coast has required some adjustments... especially with regards to my shoes. I…read morelost part of the heel on a pair of leather Tory Burch boots did not hold up versus the snow very long, thus I found myself in need of shoe repair. 5 minutes on yelp later, I found Delmar bootery. I arrived on a Tuesday to drop off to drop off the boots to have the heel replaced. Service was prompt, efficient, and polite - the woman behind the counter took not a second longer than was necessary, which I know some may find off-putting, but I appreciated her efficiency. The boots were ready on Saturday AM to be picked up (just as they said), and the rubber replacement is much more suitable for the snow. They also appear to have shined them up a bit. I've already brought back two additional pairs of heels to be replaced since I appreciated the job that they did. The thing that most impressed me is that on one of the pairs had 2 options for a repair - a cheaper, simpler repair and a more thorough one - and the girl behind the counter (before I could ask!) took it back to show the cobbler in the back, then had him come up and discuss the options with me. They really want to make sure the repairs get done correctly, but also exactly as the customer wants. They do a stamp card for heel replacements - buy 6, get the 7th one free!

Smallish leather wallets from a brand I had never heard of were between $65 and over $100! I went to TJ Maxx in Latham and got one for $25, also genuine leather and Fossil brand. I will say the customer service here was excellent and the store is conveniently located In Stuyvesant Plaza, but wow, the prices were astonishingly high!

The outlet store was always kind of hit or miss on good prices. If you haven't been in a J Crew, it is a very similar style to what Gap and Old Navy carry. The clothing is all quite nice and they do carry many classic and timeless styles. This store does carry more than just clothing. I spotted apparel for men, women and kids. They also had a small jewelry section, but I would suggest checking our nearby Charming Charlie's because the prices may be better. I also noticed a small table of women's shoes, lots of basic flats, but all were very cute. This store might be worth checking out if you don't want to make the long trek over to the Lee Outlets. I spotted many items at 40-60% off and the true bargains are found in the back of the store. Prices aren't bargain basement cheap, but they are reasonable for this particular brand.
