We've been using Modern Septic & Sewer since the 90s. They have never failed to be courteous, knowledgeable, & excellent at what they do. I recently had a drain field fail, & thought I was going to need a whole new septic system. Modern came up with an excellent alternative that saved me a lot of money, and solved the problem. WIN/WIN!!! I really appreciated the fact that they looked at alternatives that were less costly, when they could have made a lot more money. Modern's staff is wonderful - Amanda is a sweetheart, Michael is really nice & easy to work with, as are all of the other staff that showed up. I can't recommend this business enough. Family owned & operated for many years, they stand by their work, they work with YOU, & they're just truly wonderful people. I'll be asking them to hook us up to the city sewer system when needed. I live on a wetland and it took almost exactly one year to get the Health Department variances and the made-to-order septic system installed. We received a quote from Modern Plumbing and Septic when we purchased our first home (basically we wanted to know what it would cost to hook our home up to the city sewer line that had been recently added into our road). They were prompt with their response and very fair with their pricing (it was going to cost just over $1,000). Since our septic remained high functioning throughout our time in the home, we never needed to hire them to come out to hook us up to the new city sewer, but we would definitely contact them again if such a need arises in a new home we purchase. read more

I have used Modern Septic for 16 years. They put in the original system and have maintained it from then. They are always very responsive and deal with emergencies very well. I have gotten to know their operator, Robert, and he is always generous in giving tips on how to maintain the septic system to peak performance. I couldn't ask for better service. read more

I would never recommend dealing with Modern to anyone. They installed a new system for us in December 2018 and these are the problems we encountered: 1) They were the lowest bid and we hired them. They then raised the cost over an additional 20% after installation. 2) They deviated from the site plan without approval, then changed the county site plan to match after completion. 3) They left piles of debris, no clean up and the yard was trashed with no regard to the existing landscaping. 4) They refused to cover the complete mound with topsoil as stated in the contract. They don't consider the sides as part of the mound. The sides had exposed sand, and rocks from the old septic system which should have been removed per the County Health inspector as potentially sewer saturated soil. They were not supposed to touch the old system per the original site plan. 5) They partially filled in the ditch (also part of the site plan deviation) causing flooding and at first refused to fix it. 6) The customer service disappeared after the job was done. When we raised our concerns, they refused to even discuss them. They don't care about the customer or working with them, only the money. We were in the process of selling our house and we tried to work with them to get the issues resolved quickly but Amanda refused. The threat of placing a lien against the property while trying to sell it shows how unethical they operate. The damage to the yard cost us in many ways as a number of potential buyers who liked the house, but cited the yard as a reason to not bid. We finally dropped the price again in January after one sale fell thru as the bidder cited the yard as a major reason for their extremely low bid. We finally got a buyer, but quite a bit below appraised value, and as a condition of sale in March we paid for a landscape company to repair the damage once the snow was gone and spring finally arrives. We've never had a problem with any contractors before, who have always stood by their work, but Modern didn't and we were hurt by this company and they don't care. Avoid Modern Septic and their contract, they cannot be trusted. read more

I think we would choose another company, if we had it to do over again. My wife had heard about Modern from a co-worker that had a good experience with them. Their workers were courteous and good, but there were some problems with the billing that were a bit disturbing, and while we may be able to afford some discrepancies here and there, many people would be put out with clerical errors such as these. read more

This used to be a good business, but I think they have gone downhill over the last few years. It's sad, really. They seem to have forgotten about courtesy, customer service, and accountability. During our recent transaction with them, we found their office staff (especially the owner) to be unbelievably rude, their dispatch process to be shockingly disorganized, and our overall experience with them to be nothing short of a disaster. The only plus side to having dealt with Modern Plumbing, is that we now do our homework ahead of time, and are far more careful about whom we choose to deal with in the first place. read more
