It's time to set the record straight. I found these guys on USHIP (they have near perfect feedback in those reviews) and looked up their contact info on the federal motor carriers/department of transportation website (safer.fmcsa.dot.gov). As you know, their website leads to booking directly through UShip (which will increase your costs by about $500 due to Uship booking fees). I have an original, irreplaceable Steinway Model B Piano worth a small fortune, and Modern Piano moved it from central Florida to the Denver suburbs without a hitch. I was an anxious mess for the duration of the transport, and Steve (the dispatcher I worked with) was absolutely wonderful in communicating updates on the piano's whereabouts and extremely reassuring. The piano was picked up and delivered exactly as contracted. They used appropriate piano moving equipment and excellent moving techniques during pick-up and delivery. And, most importantly, the piano was delivered in PERFECT condition. As an added bonus, Matt (the delivery agent) had a keen eye and made great suggestions on how we could position the piano to make the best use of our space. He did not rush and allowed me ample time to inspect the soundboard, every hammer and pin and play every note. There is always a chance of injury during a long distance move, and that is why I was willing to pay a premium to have a dedicated piano mover with decades of experience move my baby. I will ONLY ever use modern piano moving after this perfect moving experience. PS There were no stickers or any other type of advertising attached to my piano. The guy who left that as part of his feedback appears to have the wrong company. I also simply do not believe some of the feedback left by others - damaged floors and door jams? No way, no how. I just saw that they misrepresented the situation here. My piano is a rare 1865 Grand Chickering. The amount of money requested by me was simply the amount requested by the Guild in Houston to do a proper repair. In the end, I shipped the lid to them, paid over $1,000 out of pocket to repair the blinds (was not a $300 repair as they claim) and the lid is still cracked, although not as bad as before. I gave up on trying to get back to perfection on the piano but I do acknowledge that they tried. However, they were VERY difficult in this process. read more

Nothing but the highest recs for Modern Piano Moving. They have a Missouri business address, but ship all over the contiguous states. My mother no longer plays (arthritis in her hands) and wanted me to have the family piano... now, this isn't an irreplaceable concert grand or anything, but it is an heirloom upright, and she was worried about it arriving in decent condition after a 1600-mile move. MPM called twice ahead of delivery, once to give me a three-day window (and to ask what day would be most convenient, in case I needed to schedule time off work,) and once the actual delivery was scheduled, to give me a four-hour window for the delivery time. Once the day arrived, they showed up on the stroke of the appointed hour, and quickly unloaded the piano & bench, setting it up, making sure everything was just as it should be. The three movers were nothing but professional & polite. The whole thing was accomplished in about twenty minutes. Modern Piano just moved my great grandmother's antique upright piano from Illinois to Massachusetts and I couldn't be happier. I have used Modern Piano twice. For my first move, I gathered two additional quotes and spoke to all three companies about the logistics, the pickup/delivery timeframes and the environment my piano would be in while in their care. Modern Piano won that move because of the time they took to explain the process and because of the climate controlled truck. I used Modern Piano Moving a few years ago when we shipped my son's Boston upright from Michigan to San Francisco. This piano was on the second floor and the movers had to navigate a long driveway in the middle of winter, PLUS when they got to SF, they had to navigate the very steep hill where my son's apartment is. They did such a great job, OF COURSE we would use them again to move our Steinway baby grand from Michigan to Colorado. The piano arrived last week in perfect condition and even sounds just as good as it did when it left Michigan. The called to let me know their time of arrival,on time, they promptly got to work removing and totally wrapping her up for safety in transport. I contracted Modern Piano Moving to move my grand piano from Grand Junction, CO to Colorado Springs, CO (about 5 hours away). I chose them as their reviews seemed mostly positive and their price was significantly lower than the competition. You absolutely get what you pay for. I contracted on 7/6/2022 and the quote I received said it would take up to 30 days to pick up the piano and then up to 30 days to deliver the piano. The piano was picked up from the storage facility on 8/15 (missing the 30 days but willing to overlook it) and won't be delivered until 10/25 - 11/2. So it will have taken them just under 5 months start to finish. I had it moved from Houston to Grand Junction using 3 different companies and it only took 3 months. I have reached out multiple times to escalate my complaint to no avail. The salesperson proved unhelpful. They wanted to charge the entire fee up front which I told them I was not comfortable. I have moved the piano across country twice, now and the other companies I have contracted didn't bill until their portion of the move was complete. I was told by the sales person they would bill 1/2 at pickup and the other 1/2 at delivery which I agreed to in writing. They billed the entire fee at pickup. When I reached out to ask why, the salesperson blamed accounting. One huge mistake in conflict resolution is to pass the buck. The proper approach is to take ownership and resolve the problem. Very unhappy with the company and hoping my piano actually arrives when they say it is supposed to. I am getting radio silence. They have zero incentive, they already have my money. If you are moving a piano, use Keyboard Carriers or Keyboard Carriage. They are more reliable. read more

Modern Piano Moving is one of the few long distance piano movers I could find. Two movers moved an upright piano from Las Vegas to Seattle over a lumpy uphill lawn and up one flight of narrow stairs. They did a great job and took care not to damage the piano maneuvering through awkward turns. They took their time and did not rush through the job. They also delivered an antique piano stool and painting, both of which were delivered in perfect condition. For their service and responsiveness, I felt their price was reasonable. They clearly have an organized tracking system. Reliable communication with customers and also between staff. There are different quotes depending on how flexible you can be in your pick up and delivery windows. I chose the least expensive and was pleasantly surprised by how soon my piano was delivered. This was a new experience for us. How to move a valuable old player piano from MN to PA. Working with Modern Piano was great. They provided a quote that was accurate. Took care wrapping and loading the piano. And delivered to my daughter's house in PA in the same shape it was when loaded. I don't think I have ever had a company provide this low of a level of service. I worked with them upfront to determine the cost to ship my Disklavier Mark IV piano, a player piano by name. They told me it could take up to a month to arrive at the destination. We are coming up on 2 months and it still has yet to be delivered. We did pre-work for them identifying the number of stairs, the width of the halls, the number of turns, etc. And they do charge for each step and each turn. It did take several weeks to arrive in Chicago, but once there, the movers said the piano was too heavy to move up the stairs. We were never even asked for the weight of the piano and it was never mentioned as a factor. The movers on the other end stated that the extra 300 pounds of the player components would prevent it from being moved via the stairs. There is no way on this planet that the player components mounted under the piano weigh anywhere near 300 pounds. There are 3 components, the size of a stereo receiver and 2 speakers mounted underneath. Any extra 30 or so pounds max. This would have added minimal extra weight. After weeks of "Re-assessing", they decided it can go up the steps, but I am still waiting for a date for this to happen. For the amount of money being spent on this move, we should not be at this point. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! read more

I was pleased with all aspects of my experience with Modern Piano Movers. First of all they took beautiful care of my pianos during the nearly four weeks it took to get them from rural East Texas to South Florida. The two pianos (77 year-old baby grand and 105 year-old upright) arrived without any evidence of damage or wear and tear from the trip. When their truck broke down en route I was given frequent status updates and they were flexible about working out a new arrival date/ time. BAIT AND SWITCH SCAM on pricing / quotes. I completed the online instant quote questionnaire with accurate city to city information to receive a bid of $1794 to move my great grandmother's baby grand. Eeek! Because of the price, I decided to wait on booking and shop around. After receiving regular follow up emails from them in the subsequent weeks, I received one good one about their big sale - up to 40% discount to book by the end of the year!?!? "Yay, bring me my piano, I can hear Beethoven's 5th now!" I thought. Sale made the price much more reasonable so I responded via email as directed but did not hear back. Sent another email the following week and after several back and forth messages that evaded the questions about the sale, I continued to finalize the info thinking I would see the discount at the end. After a few days of communication, I was ready to book. I was then told the final price is $1766 - WOW what an amazing sale (sarcasm)! A whole 1.5% discount from my original quote and no where near 40% off. Bad business practices to over promise and WAY under deliver and complete waste of time with all the back and forth and follow up emails only to find out at the point of booking that the "sale" was a total scam. Now I am back to the drawing board, sniff sniff. We'll see if I end up finding a cheaper quote, but even if not, I will at least be working with a different company who is straight forward on their pricing and "sales". : ( read more

I like to write reviews to help people make the right choice. In this case, please do yourself a favor and find another company. My story is pretty simple, called to book our piano. I dealt mostly with Misty and Chris and they were very nice. 1. They picked up the piano and they brought the wrong truck for the size. they said they would be pack in 30 minutes, they came back 4 hours later, I had to catch a flight and I had told them all this time frame they needed to be here to load and leave. I had to have a neighbor stay. I had to make it work and call in some favors. I never saw my piano leave. It was a Uhaul trick that came for the pickup. 2. Now delivery time, we live in a condo and you needed to load from the dock, and you would be escorted up. I received a call from the head mover and he asked me for my apt number, I said it will do you no good as you have to be escorted in. Just give our name is all you need. He hung up on me, he calls me back and says he is here and where am I and what is my apt number, so I told him, He was really mad and for no reason. He says I asked people where this piano goes and your address and name no one knows who you are. I said what? you for sure are not in the right place. Follow the directions and go to the loading dock and they will bring you right in. My proof is the people in my building escorted him up, when I answered the door, I simply asked him, is this normal to hang up on your customer? He said do you want this piano or not? I can take it and leave. He actually started to leave with my piano, I called the office and they put out the fire out, I had to contact the security in my building for him not to leave. My concierge people were mortified., They never have seen such unprofessionalism ever. At the end, his kind self came out. I am sure he was a great guy but must have had somethings going on, not the customer's fault. And he changed his tune. He noticed my player was not working. He tried to fix it. He said not to worry the office will bring someone out fix it or replace it. He ended up at the end being ok. 3. The Lady comes out they sent, and says it was not working and broken. You will hear from someone to replace it from the company. 4. I call her to find out when she will come out, Chris calls me and says we cannot pay to replace that part. I explained it all to him and he said given the ordeal you have gone thru, I will push to take care of this for you. He calls me back and said the boss Ross, I think was his name would take my call and he is the one that said no and he gave me his number to call him. I explained it all to him, he said he had the best guy on the job, and he believes his employee and not me. Never a sorry, No kind offer of even caring. I was talking in a nice tone but he was not having anything. I was a bother. I was not important, he took my money, I had the worst service and yet he did what his employee said he would hang up on me as well. Chris was putting out the fire, and this owner thought he would be arrogant to me and just dismiss me. Writing a review is not a threat it is just power to help others. I want people to have good experience with a kind, caring people that care to help and say please and thank you!. I was hoping he would do the right thing! I should have listened to my friend who said don't use them and called Kevin Duffy Piano Movers. Lesson learned! Company refused to take any responsibility for it. Ended up costing another 600 bucks to get the side repaired . The piano involved is an Steinway upright piano made for the Prussian Palace with very high sound quality. It is aged but in excellent condition, well-conditioned and well-tune. It is a gift from a family of piano players with a nominal sales price of $10K. The true value of it is far beyond that. The piano is not hard to move. It has been moved from the auction house with no issues. It is not hard to move pianos in and out of this house. At least 10 pianos have been moved in and out of this house without issues. Modern Piano Moving is contracted to move this piano from the house of our child's piano teacher in Georgia to our house in California. The move happened in December1, 2017. The piano teacher complained that the moving board that workers brought in is too small to move a piano, the wheel on that moving board is too small, and the staff consisted of only two workers instead of the industry standard of 3. The piano almost bumped into the wall while the moving workers struggle to keep the piano on the small moving board. On January 10, 2018, we receive a notice by Angie from Modern Piano Moving that the "When the piano was loaded for delivery there was a glued joint on the key cover that failed. It isn't broken, but the delivery crew left your key cover in our warehouse for repairs." We consulted with the original owner, who told us that there should be no glue in the cover, which is a good solid piece of wood. We immediately demanded Modern Piano Moving to return the cover without doing anything on it and we made the same request multiple times directly to its owner, Russ Vitt. Modern Piano Moving still has not returned the key board cover. on January 11, 2018, the piano without the key board cover was delivered, with more evidence of gross negligence. The keys were broken, the leg supporting the keyboard is broken, debris were found inside the keyboard, the keys are out of tune. We emailed repair request immediately and Modern Piano Moving promised to "everything taken care of to your satisfaction." On January 22, the owner of Modern Piano Moving email us: "I am putting the claim on hold until you respond with answers to my questions. Do you understand that?". The questions he demands answer is why the original owners complained that the crew who picked up the piano are not professional. I filed a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, and almost immediately, Modern Piano Moving started to ship back the key board cover to me. When it arrived, the one piece of beautiful wood with fine texture is completely covered by a layer of cheap coarse material. Namely, you cannot see the wood any more, instead, you can only see a layer of cheap material with dents, creases, uneven surface and uneven paint. The layer seems quite thick, it is not clear how much of the high quality wood has to be grind off to make room for the cheap material. Please notice that trees grow naturally and slowly at the time the piano was made. Wood of the same quality is very difficult to find now. Namely, the beautiful one piece of wood is now completely covered by a layer of cheap material. Moreover, part of the layer is bulging out, as if gas between the cheap layer and the beautiful wood is accumulating. I am worried that the cheap layer by Modern Piano Moving may prevent moisture from getting out, which would result in the original high quality wood to rot inside! For all the other damages (broken keys, broken legs, etc.), Modern Piano Mover has done nothing about them, while the repair requests were made the same night the piano was delivered, many months ago. read more

After emailing Modern Piano Moving with link to this review and notice that I had also contacted their local BBB, I was contacted with an offer to resolve my compliant. The balance of my requested reimbursement for the repair was sent to me as promised. So I've revised to 2 stars. If they hadn't broken the piano to begin with, would have been 5 stars. If I hadn't had the issue with the reimbursement for repair, would have been 3-4 stars. With the hassle of fighting for the reimbursement (multiple emails, phone calls, pictures, reporting to external review sites, etc), I just can't go higher then 2 stars ('Meh. I've had to email constantly in order to get updates on their delivery time. I am less than a week away from delivery and I still don't know when it will happen. We used Modern Piano to move my mother's old Steinway upright from NE Ohio to my daughter's new house in Nashville, TN. We were extremely pleased with the outcome. After doing some research, we chose Modern because they had the best reputation and the lowest price. They took very good care of the old piano. Due to personal travel and other readiness issues at the new house, we asked Modern to delay delivering the piano. So they stored it in their climate-controlled warehouse for a month -- at no extra charge -- and delivered it when we were ready. Workers were friendly and efficient at both ends.
