I explained that I was most interested in a natural third stage. I wished for my placenta to self deliver to which he flat out stated no he wouldn't do that. As I questioned his reasoning he asked what he would be doing for 15-20 minutes while we awaited the placenta and laughed hold your baby. I replied, "no, I'd like to hold my own baby during that time." He then went on to explain how it wasn't physically possible for me to hold my own baby until the placenta delivers as the umbilical cord wouldn't reach. I was then left trying to find a new provider at 30 weeks. When I discovered FCMC it was such a relief. I knew by my first phone call with Linda that I would be in great hands. My prenatal care from there on out was exceptional. Christina made my birthing experience as pleasant as possible! The entire FCMC staff was truly a joy to work with!

When I originally called to ask some general questions about what exactly a doula does, she was kind, patient, and so freaking educated about the process of childbirth. We were offered a tour of Baylor hospital (virtual due to COVID), newborn classes, and tons of educational resources after booking with NDDA. What stood out to me most was the fact that the all female team there just made you feel like you were so seen, every step of the way. As a Black woman, childbirth can be an extremely scary experience, just look up the statistics of mistreatment in the healthcare space for minorities. Melissa and team advocated for my husband and I. I've worked with Meredith L. and Madison Prez for the placenta encapsulation. They were both very easy to contact and responded promptly over text. I worked with Madison most recently, and she picked up the placenta and quickly processed it and delivered it to my home. I got placenta pills, a tincture, the keepsake cord, and the art print. We both interviewed a few midwife practices in the DFW area, and we felt comfortable with Cori right away. She had the perfect balance between being personable and professional at the same time. I felt safe with asking her questions without being judged. She always asked what questions we would have multiple times throughout our appointments with her. She also never rushed us during appointments, and really took her time and gave us the full appointment to her undivided attention. She explains everything very well, using different resources. Cori is extremely respectful of different cultural practices, she even asks about any a couple would like to practice during the pregnancy and birth so she can be aware and accommodate. She also has a great community of Doulas, other midwives, doctors, chiropractors and pelvic floor therapists she is connected to. When the day finally came, Cori was extremely calm. Her voice and tone was calming, moved in the room without excessive noise (which was very helpful, during the last stages of labor) and she was completely prepared. I loved her availability through text messages anytime i forgot to ask her something, and this was especially helpful during labor, for both my husband and doula. Highly recommend having Cori part of anyone's pregnancy and birth journey, she'll definitely be part of our second pregnancy!

She delivered 2 of my 3 children, and I continued to see her for my yearly exams. Over the years, she has seemed to "check out". Last time I saw her, I felt even more like she's disassociated from the actual practice of really caring about what's going on with me. For a woman my age, however, there are certain questions she needs to be asking and following up on, especially knowing my health history, but she did not. On several occasions, I reached out with very worrisome and specific concerns, all of which were ignored, and never addressed at my following appointments. The last time I saw her was confirmation that I needed to find a new Dr, as I felt her lack of knowledge and concern had reached a level I felt was totally unacceptable for a Dr of her tenure. in addition, wait times at her new office can last 45 min or more. I spoke to another lady in the waiting area and she felt the same, and had been going to this Dr as long as I had. Dr.Harms does not have the knowledge to care for menopausal patients either, which is of utmost importance for me. This is Dallas. Drs are like restaurants, they're a dime a dozen. Time to find a new one. Wish I had done so sooner.
