I am SO happy we found Johnnie and Modern Bride! After visiting countless bridal stores across OC and even in Vegas (which were all great), I was feeling pretty defeated/frustrated trying to find a dress I really liked that was also within my budget (budget being the biggest factor tbh). Santee St was my last-ditch effort--and I'm so glad I gave it a shot. When I called, Johnnie said they didn't have the dress I wanted in-store, but he would still able to order it for me. I was between sizes, and he went above and beyond by offering to order one size first so I could try it on--just to help me avoid unnecessary alterations. He even offered to place a second order in the other size if needed. Super flexible and thoughtful which I really appreciated since it's already nervewracking buying a dress! Went in in December and (I believe the stylist name was Sylvia) just kept watching me and my family literally right behind us the whole time we were looking at dresses. Please be aware they only have VERY SMALL SIZES. Stylist was very rude and kept telling me none of those will fit you. There was only about 4 dresses that I could try on and they were plus size dresses which sooo big. When I tried on the dress she disappeared and told another girl to "watch" me. After checking out 4 other dress shops in LA and OC counties, I came across this little shop where I found THE dress I was looking for (Sophia Tolli). If you are judging this place by the appearance, you are wrong! This place is what I call a gem in the rough. They may not serve you with mimosas and snacks and have you sit on a fancy velvety sofa while waiting for the bride to dress up. Or their ambiance and the aesthetic may not please you, but you WILL be impressed by their service, friendliness, and helpfulness. Horrible experience! I never write reviews but I never have horrible experiences like this. I went in to buy a veil, so I took my wedding dress I had bought elsewhere to match it and the owner guy or whoever he was didn't want to let me even pull the back of my dress out of the bag so we could make sure the veil I wanted to buy was long enough. He kept insisting my dress was shorter and I told him no it's long and when I tried showing him he kept saying he was the expert and if I didnt like it I can get my veil somewhere else. I know the reason he didnt want me to pull my dress out was because when he saw it he said "oh your dress is an expensive dress", he didnt want to show the other customers there my dress because of how nice and expensive it was but thats not my fault, I just needed a veil. He was very rude to me and my mother-in-law for no reason. Trust me, as a bride this is not the type of people you want to deal with when you are trying to have a good experience buying something so special and important. read more

Literally the worst place I came to shop. The minute my mom and I stepped in and looking at dress we were greeted by Sylvia. She asked what I was looking for and what I was interested in. After showing her a few pictures she asked what size I was and I told her the last shop I was at they said I was an 8 (mind you this is the second bridal shop I've ever stepped foot in so I don't know sizes or how they run) she immediately snapped back "well you're here now and all shops run in different sizes so be respectful when coming in" we were in shock.... I did end up trying to 2 dresses because I wasn't going to let her own personal issues get in the way of me trying to find a dress. At the end of the day she switched up her attitude and helped, but I was still pissed trying them on. I did find a dress I fell in love with so I took a picture of the dress and tag and went to another store that had it and bought there. Although I did find something wonderful, I wasn't giving my service to someone so rude. And the next store we went to was absolutely amazing. read more

I honestly didn't expect to come here, as it's an hour away from home, but they had a dress in store that I was looking at online after seeing this dress online in another boutique but they didn't have it. I had a good experience here that made up for my previous boutique experience. The staff here let me browse through their aisles of wedding dresses, which I didn't really get to do before because the other place the stylist would pull things for me based on what I thought I wanted. Here I was left alone to look at each wedding gown and when I was ready Jennifer got the wedding gowns down for me. She helped me into them, let me walk around in them, didn't pressure me into buying anything. Just how I like to shop, stress free. I was quoted a price for the dress & the price was written down on the card. I came back a week later to try it on again and ended up purchasing the dress. The entire situation was very low-key, I didn't feel pressured, and I got my dress for about the price that it's listed on online. Johnnie and his crew are the best! They helped me find and order my wedding dress, and get it shipped with plenty of time for alterations. He's very knowledgeable and super responsive over text. During your appointment, he'll advise on what dresses they have coming in within your budget / in the style(s) you want. We switched my veil a few weeks before the wedding, and they were extremely accommodating - not to mention fast. It got in a week before the wedding, with no issues. I got my alterations done by family, but Johnnie has a nearby alteration spot he recommends and has a close relationship to.
