This year, however, I decided to try my luck--could there be a good barber in the largest city in America? Apparently there is, and his name is Sam at Fellow Barber. I went to Sam on accident, technically; I had made an appointment with a barber who, I was later told, was at a different location on my scheduled day. After asking the receptionist, whose name I regrettably did not get, who was a good choice, he recommended Sam. I get a fairly traditional haircut: scissors-and-comb all over, long on top and short on the sides, no fade or anything like that. In a world of electric trimmers and GreatClips, a barber who knows how to work the shears is an unfortunate rarity. I was pleased to find that Sam is one of those rare few. He acknowledged the multiple cowlicks in my hair, and clearly took his time. He didn't seem to make a single cut that was not considered, and even then went back twice to make sure that everything was even and squared away. The meditative experience was completed with a straight razor shave on the back of the neck--the only real way to finish a trip to the barber (short of a full face shave, another pandemic casualty). Until I have reason to change, I have made Sam my go-to barber for whenever I'm in the city. If you care at all about how your hair looks, I suggest that you do likewise--and tip well!

At Stellar Barbershop you are definitely getting the full experience. I was there to get a haircut for a wedding - my wedding as a matter of fact. Sam and Abdul took such great care of me and made sure the one thing I wouldn't have to worry about was my hair on my crazy busy wedding day. They made sure to fit me in on the day of my wedding. I really appreciate this accommodation, because like a lot of places tend to have quite a packed schedule days or sometimes weeks in advance. I had my hair cut by Abdul and he is a genius with cutting hair. He could tell by learning my beard & hair preferences, along with seeing my head shape, exactly how to maximize the final presentation. The haircut was done with impeccable scissorwork, along with the trimmers to give my hair a professionally done look and feel. This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. This is probably one of the worst haircut I have gotten in years compared to other places that are in different price ranges. Leaving the salon it looked good styled but when I went home to wash it and had more time to look without it curled I saw really choppy layers and the length is much shorter than i wanted. For a cut I paid $107-110 not including tips and expected a decent cut for that amount. Truly disappointing as holidays are coming up and I have been wearing a hat to cover up, cannot wait for this to grow out but will take months.
