It took me years to find a barber that I could trust to do a good job every time I saw him. Once I moved New York, I was so hesitant to try new barbers that I accepted the cost of going back to New Jersey every couple of weeks for a haircut. This year, however, I decided to try my luck--could there be a good barber in the largest city in America? Apparently there is, and his name is Sam at Fellow Barber. I went to Sam on accident, technically; I had made an appointment with a barber who, I was later told, was at a different location on my scheduled day. After asking the receptionist, whose name I regrettably did not get, who was a good choice, he recommended Sam. I get a fairly traditional haircut: scissors-and-comb all over, long on top and short on the sides, no fade or anything like that. In a world of electric trimmers and GreatClips, a barber who knows how to work the shears is an unfortunate rarity. I was pleased to find that Sam is one of those rare few. He acknowledged the multiple cowlicks in my hair, and clearly took his time. He didn't seem to make a single cut that was not considered, and even then went back twice to make sure that everything was even and squared away. The meditative experience was completed with a straight razor shave on the back of the neck--the only real way to finish a trip to the barber (short of a full face shave, another pandemic casualty). Until I have reason to change, I have made Sam my go-to barber for whenever I'm in the city. If you care at all about how your hair looks, I suggest that you do likewise--and tip well! read more

Outstanding and fabulous as always. Noemi is my stylist. She always makes me feel comfortable and has an amazing memory of previous appointments and my appearance in where to go in shaping, cutting and styling. I can relax and even close my eyes and not worry ever. The salon/Nomad is extremely personable and friendly and welcoming. read more

Been going to Fellow Barber for years. Sam is the best. I highly recommend Fellow Barber for an amazing haircut.

I usually go to Horatio St Fellow Barber but I received an email about a new NOMAD location. What I love about Fellow Barber (Besides having great barbers) is their app. I make an appointment on my cell, easy peasy! Finding free parking in the area for 90 minutes is always hit or miss, I was able to snag a spot on the street. Walking into the barber shop, I see there is a coffee bar!? Horatio st who?? I have my coffee and now I meet Justin. I tell him how the barbers at Horatio st cut my hair and he is now a man on a mission. Justin takes out the scissors and goes to town. The end result, he gave me a good cut. And in typical Fellow Barber fashion, he takes a warm, mentholated towel and covers my head. I feel totally refreshed and I love my haircut. Fellow Barber, congrats on your latest venture! read more

Very good experience for my first haircut in NY. I really suggest it and it will my place for next year

The barber was nice. I just was not blown away by the razor shape-up. Left hair on top of mustache, under the bottom lip. Maybe I need to come when I need an actual haircut. Atmosphere was great. Very clean. I go to a barber uptown in Inwood and the razor is on point. read more

I've been lucky enough to have Alex as my barber for years. (A highly coveted thing in NYC) He has definitely perfected his craft and is an absolute artist with great attention for details. I could go on but i'll let these most recent photos do the talking. Highly recommend booking with Alex. Loving his new location at Fellow Barber; great lighting, chill vibe. read more

I accompanied my friend for a walk-in appointment yesterday. My friend got a scissor cut (no clippers, except to clean up the edges of the hairline.) Sam (not the owner) did an amazing job cutting my friend's hair who has fine hair and several cowlicks at the bottom, back of his hairline making it difficult to cut to look even unless one does a fade into a buzz cut at the bottom. Sam knew how to cut his hair withw doing a fade-in buzz cut so that you didn't notice the cowlicks. Also, the sides of his fine hair which show every single strand of hair were evenly cut. Expensive hair salons, stunningly, haven't been able to do a decent job with these things! It's expensive for a barber cut since some salons are similarly priced and include a shampoo (scissor cuts cost more), but the quality was excellent and looked better than more expensive salons so that's more worthwhile than a free shampoo with a scalp massage. read more

I rarely write reviews, so it means something when I do. I had heard good things about Fellow Barber, so I decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed with my visit. My barber Sam was friendly, personable, and -- despite me giving him vague instructions on the style I was looking for -- gave me a great haircut. I found my new haircut spot. read more

Sam I. is incredible. You should absolutely try to make an appointment to get a haircut with him. Not only does he give one of the best men's cuts in NYC - he's so much fun! Great conversationalist and really good at his job! read more

Moderately price, but worse than an expensive haircut is leaving with a bad look and low self-steam. Came here to get my hair cleaned up after a local barber butchered it. Nathan really came through. He's very thorough and pays close attention to fine detail. Definitely going back read more

First time at Fellow Barber and I'll make it a habit moving forward. I got a great cut from Sam, the staff are really friendly, and it was a solid experience overall. I haven't really had many haircuts in the last 1.5 years and Sam delivered. read more

Just want to shout out my amazing barber Alex K! He is kind, pays close attention to detail, and always goes the extra mile to make me look amazing. I've gone to a lot of barbers in New York and he is my absolute favorite. Also Fellow Barber is super clean and good with Covid protocols and take your temp at the door. Fully recommend Alex and Fellow Barber! read more

I never complain, but the recent haircut I received here was completely terrible. The barber who cut my hair seemed like he had never cut hair before in his life. I asked for a trim/fade on the sides and a little off the top. I left looking like I cut my hair myself. I didn't want to ask him to fix it for fear that it would look even worse. I gave 2 stars because the haircut I had here prior to this one was great. I was in a rush to get a haircut for something this weekend and this guy was available. read more

Alex has been my barber for over 7 years now. He is truly a 5-star professional and treats his clients with the highest standards. Temperature checks upon entrance, very professional staff, clean. read more

If you go through my profile i do not write reviews very frequently, so writing this review should speak volumes! I came in with my boyfriend the other day so he can get a haircut by Sam and i had to take a minute to give Sam a shout out for the amazing work! He did such a splendid job, left my boyfriend looking so handsome and dapper! Very personable, easy to talk to, and listens to what the client wants. You can tell he has been doing this for a while because his work is just impeccable. Highly recommend Sam, i know from this point forward my boyfriend will only be going to him. Thank you so much !!!! read more

I've gone to Alex for nearly 6 years, and I've never left disappointed. I have never once had to tell him what I want, he just knows and makes it happen. Best hair cuts in flatiron/midtown. I've been to enough places to know that I'm not going elsewhere. I mostly go to Sam and always leave happy. Highly recommend him. Additionally, they have thoughtful COVID protocols in place to keep their clients safe. read more

My barber is Alex K at Fellow Barber. I have been his client for about 4 years. He gives a great haircut - best I have had in NYC (or elsewhere). I get more compliments on my haircut after he does it than I ever did with my prior barbers. He is incredibly professional and a just a really nice/great guy. He takes his time and never rushes through the haircut - he is a perfectionist. I highly recommend him if you need a barber or just want to try out a master at his craft to see what a difference he can make. read more

I checked a few different barber shops with early morning availability, but couldn't find reviews from anyone with long hair who'd been. I even saw some that recounted overt homophobia, which is going to be a strong no for me during Pride month. I was about to mail it in when I discovered a new Fellow Barber location that had pre-10am availability - and with a senior barber! I've been to other locations and had great experiences, but really want to take a rare moment to review the NoMad location and Raquel. Raquel immediately made me feel welcome at Fellow, and got excited when I asked her to do something a little different with my undercut. She went above and beyond to give me a creative, tight design, and even made sure to take special care with my sensitive skin. I'll definitely be back - thank you so much, Raquel!! read more

I've been going to Noemi C at the Nomad location on several occasions now and have always left completely satisfied with my haircut. Her attention to detail is amazing and she is very communicative every step of the way. She is also just a fun person to be around! I cannot recommend her enough if you are looking for a dependable hair stylist that takes her craft seriously. read more

Everyone has had a bad haircut - it's not an uncommon occurrence. But I have never experienced such poor technical skills on my hair. The layering, simple scissor work, and overall ability to give a uniform haircut (without relying on clippers) seemed lacking. And it resulted in a haircut that looks flat, uneven, and simply bad. I think he knew he gave me a bad haircut- I could tell from his face. Bummed out about my experience and leaving this review as a cautionary tale. Would not recommend, but giving it 2 stars because they did have personality. read more

Just got a really rough haircut with Alex. Nice guy but he really lacks the finesse I'm typically used to from Fellow barber. Asked for a fade, he took it up so high and tight, and left me with a super uneven top. I feel jackkkked. read more

So rude. A bunch of amateur barbers. I showed up ten minutes late for my appointment and I texted ahead of time I was stuck in traffic. They charged me $40 for a late cancellation. The barber was hanging around refusing to cut my hair. read more
