Great barber shop. Just finished an appointment today. I've gone there maybe 5 or 6 times in the past few months and gotten great haircuts each time (from Mike and Dmitry). There are a thousand barber shops in this area, but I don't go anywhere else now. These guys really know how to take care of customers. I book online and it's great--no waiting. But they take walk-ins and seem to be able to accommodate them most of the time from what I've seen. Don't go if you have longer hair. We discussed a clean up and slight trim on top. Left with about 4.5 inches of hair gone with no warning. By the time i realized how much he was taking off it was too late and just had to let him finish. The cut truthfully came out good, but unacceptable to take that much hair without making sure the client is okay with it. This is what i get for saving a few dollars. read more

This is place is a gem and Mike is the only guy in I trust. This is an old school no BS NYC barber shop with a lot of classic charm, but modern cuts. I have been a regular customer of 3rd Ave Barbers for the past 4.5 years but I had to make a change. I simply couldn't handle them always changing prices on me. It wasn't that the price was too high necessarily (though their price increase over the period certainly didn't match inflation and the slow rising costs of business in the city) but that every 3 months I had to ask how much it was when it came time to pay. I get it, people have to raise their prices. But part of being a good business owner is being able to properly price your goods and services and having some semblance of consistency. As a regular customer you come to expect a certain level of familiarity and price is part of that. Raising your price every couple months by $2 drives customers mad. At the end of the day between 2015-2019 the price went from $18 to (I think) the current price of $34, going up in increments of $2 every 3 or 4 months. As I digress, I decided to take my patronage to Barbers on 25th. Walked in on a Tues around 6:30 and their was no wait. Mike greeted me as I walked in and took me right away. Mike chatted me up the whole time and was a pretty funny guy. He was super open to whatever cut I wanted and since I'm a new customer stopped intermitently to ask me if I liked the way he was cutting my hair, which I appreciated. Throughout the cut various customers walked in and he seemed to know all of them by name, which is always a good sign. At the end of the day he gave me a great cut. He made sure to hand me a loyalty card and seemed to very much appreciate my business. Even though they are relatively new in town (open since 2018) I wish I had started coming to this place the day it opened. I will definitely be back. read more

Do NOT go to this barbershop. I went to this barbershop few weeks ago. Person who cut my hair his name is Mike. Mike is very inappropriate, disrespectful and quite frankly corny. While cutting my hair he made a lot of inappropriate comments and insults twoards Gay and Lesbians. At one point, he started to act as if he is gay, I felt as if he is mocking me. This guy thinks he is a comedian with disrespectful comments. Aside for his inappropriate and racist behavior, he is bad barber. He cut my hair uneven on both sides. Its a very simple haircut nothing extra. I had to go to another barber the next day to fix up my haircut. not happy with their service and treatment. WILL NOT RECEOMED TO ANYONE. My 3 year old desperately needed a good cut and we decided to give this place a shot. My review: CUSTOMER SERVICE: 5 stars Amazing. I was solo with 2 kids and a double stroller and they even carried the stroller up the stairs for me. THE CUT: 5 stars Incredible! For some reason my son has been looking like a mop head every time we get his hair cut but Joseph (barber) took his time, didn't rush the cut, and made it look great. Also, at one point my son kept moving his head mid-cut, so Mike jumped in to help hold his head steady. MISC: They take credit card, are open every day except Saturday, and the nicest guys. Came in for a shave- barber had very little bedside manner and was not too friendly. After I said I have sensitive skin he for some reason decide to shave my neck with a razor with no shaving cream or water- completely dry and against the grain. I have very high standards for a barber shop because my hair is quite thick and naturally wavy, and I like to keep it short (I also don't like to make appointments, and do like to pay with a credit card, and I like when they're open seven days a week)... so when I walk out of a haircut it may look fine, but then after a week or ten days it might grow back all wrong and make me look like a slob. I judge a barber less on his ability to make me look like I just got a haircut, which pretty much they can all do, and more on his ability to keep my hair looking right even between haircuts, which is a rare skill - and the best among them can even extend the length of time that I need to go between haircuts. Mike is one of the best barbers, if not the very best, that I've ever tried - and over the course of 2018 I tried every sub-$50 barber within a mile of East 25th Street, often multiple times. He is one of only a very few barbers to whom I have ever been loyal in nearly four decades of having hair and needing to get it cut regularly, because he has more than earned it. And it's difficult to believe that there aren't a ton of five star reviews here already, but I guess since the management changed recently, they might have intentionally gotten rid of some of the reviews for the team that was in charge before. If you are a man, or perhaps not a man but have a men's hairstyle, and you're looking for a barber in New York City, I very highly recommend this place. If you got your hair cut at the same location some time before and it wasn't perfect, note that there's new ownership, so you'll likely be pleasantly surprised when you return. Even if I couldn't walk to it from my apartment, I'd still take the subway to it, because other barbers just aren't as good. read more

Mike does a fantastic job. He's super friendly, knows his way around some scissors, and doesn't charge you an arm and a leg to get it done. I live on the block right behind Barbers on 25th and never knew they existed. After my old barber retired (I hope), I found myself looking on Yelp for a new one. I had tried a few with mixed reviews. One guy knew what he was doing, but raised his prices by $10. So that ended that. One guy was okay, but had no respect for people or their time, so that ended that. One guy used thinning scissors on my hair and really messed it up (probably the only really bad hair cut I've had in 30+ years). Then there was Mike. Mike runs a small shop tucked away towards the end of 25th and 2nd. I reached out to him through Yelp and he responded almost immediately. Later that day I came in and got my hair cut really well just in time for an interview. The one thing that I will say is that he's not the barber you walk into and walk out of in 5 minutes. Some guys want that, but that's not the case here. Mike will take his time (he's still quick) and he'll do it right the first time. I think he said it best "If I cut your hair poorly you'll never come back, doesn't matter if it's the first or tenth time". I haven't had a chance to come back yet, though I am planning on coming back next week before I start my new position. I have, however, sent over some friends to get their hair cut in the meanwhile. I plan to keep going back to Barbers on 25th for a long while, as long as I'm living in the area. Super happy I found him here.
