She took care of my babies quickly and with great care. She snipped Jackson's nails easily. She had patience with my talkative mother which was great haha and she explained a number of different options available to my dogs and what they all meant. Came to this location for a technician visit (booster vaccination). Appointment was at 3 but got there around 2:40 as I know parking in the area can be tough. They share a small lot with Healthy Spot behind the clinic off of Playhouse Alley but very limited spots. One side of the lot is marked 30 minutes for healthy spot and when I was there there was definitely a lady checking up on those spaces. There is otherwise street parking a a larger paid lot a short walk away. That said, even if you park behind the building the entrance is in front, off of Colorado. As mentioned, I showed up about 20 minutes early for my dog's appointment and like any other location was promptly checked in at the front desk. Waited about 5 minutes and my dog's name was called. Since it was just a booster, we were pretty much in and out in 15 minutes but again did not feel rushed by staff and made sure all my questions were answered. The only downsides to this location is the parking situation and the fact that they aren't open on the weekends. read more

My cat Sawyer only knew them for a short time but so glad his was in their care. They did all that they could to help him get better. Unfortunately he had end-stage kidney disease and crossed over the rainbow bridge. Dr. Cortez showed extreme compassion and empathy during the end. I wanted to update my review because I think it's important... After a very quick recurrence of a cancerous mass, I made the difficult decision to euthanize my baby after a long and happy life. On the morning of August 16th while I was working, my Mom notified me that Squidgy wasn't doing very well and I felt I had to significantly speed up the process to *that* day. The people available via the chat and in-office at Pasadena worked tirelessly to fit us in for that evening at 4:30 after Dr. Ohtomo had finished up doing a surgery. They saved us a parking spot and helped us through every step. I was devastated beyond anything I could have ever imagined and they were there for us completely. Our dog Frannie is quite sensitive and fearful and Tiffany is the most wonderful with her! Caring, kind, and patient always. She keeps her calm during an array of testing/procedures. It is so relieving to have someone you trust entirely when you have a reactive dog - especially when it comes to handling and patience! I have been anxiously looking at local vets in the area trying to find the most affordable, the best service, the most transparent, and caring team. Every single time I thought I found a "good vet", their prices were actually the same if not higher than modern animal. I decided to go ahead with modern animal mainly because I've used their services in the past. I was very overwhelmed on the first visit when the nurse was throwing so many cost estimates at me (TBF I was running on 4 hours of sleep and only had coffee for breakfast). After the visit, I compared the prices of modern animal to local animal hospitals, clinics, DVMs, and honestly, the estimates I got were very fair. We've all been in the situation where we show up to a vet for one concern and get blindsided by a huge cost estimate only to be told that these services are necessary for your pet's wellbeing. I'm glad that modern animal tries to prevent that with their transparent pricing. The staff is very nice but just remember that it's okay to say no to certain services, you're the one who decides what's best for your pet and your budget. (I subtracted a star because the front desk guy was pretty busy so it took him a minute to attend to me and I also don't recall being told about the lepto booster before agreeing to the vaccine initially. Again, I was sleep deprived and pretty overwhelmed.) I don't ever write bad reviews but this is one of those frustrating experiences that make you question if a telehealth model really mixes in with animals requiring a more human touch :/ Was so excited to try this place, though it was a long drive for my more anxious cat. When I arrived to the area, I tried to get ahold of them to confirm what the parking lot was but was directed to an automated corporate voice message. Frustrating but I was able to locate their complimentary lot myself -- which in there were no spots available, besides one with their cone blocking it. There was a parking spot adjacent for the next door business, so I called the corporate number again and it told me to use the app for location questions -- I called within the app and still no answer for some reason. I end up going back to the farther parking lot I had to pay for. Finally when walking back to the door where the complimentary lot was, there's a Modern Animal standee blocking it that says "MODERN ANIMAL ENTER FROM COLORADO BLVD" which is all the way around the block, the opposite side of the street, like no way??? But with it being the cutoff to our appt, I just speedwalk with my poor anxious girl in her carrier, all the way around from the back lot to the front, past multiple businesses, past Anytime Fitness, past Urth, past a whole street of loud cars. Finally make it in and the desk attendant welcomes me with a smile but tells me they can't see my cat because they strictly enforce the policy of cancelling the appointment if you arrive 10 min past. Wow. Honestly tough deadline but I get that doctors have schedules. Ultimately though, I'm late because of your company's inaccessibility through an automated, connection-less interface so I wish it wasn't such a AI scripted, corporate talk track response. He then gave a walkthrough on how to use the app for the future as though it were obviously there as a solution the whole time, even though I called it / had to find out by calling the corporate number. A vet associate came out and apologized, saying that Pasadena parking is difficult which while true, not the only problem, I think. When she showed me out, she took me through the whole office where there were many techs and doctors lounging in between appointments (to which I started wondering why they had such strict appt regulations) and when we got to the back door to the lot she let me know that usually, patients enter from here. Modern animal is a joke. The customer service rep even closed my chat Brie without assisting me I'm a new mom to a newborn baby. I went out of my way to get labs for my dog JUST so she can get her anxiety meds filled. I was told only a Vet tech appointment was needed. I went to the vet tech appointment on July 28th. I spent over $100 on babysitting, lost $300 in wages, and drove an hour out just to get these labs, spending $800 more on labs and misc items on that day. Once the labs were drawn; I was told by the vet technician we were GOOD to refill our prescription. Ofcourse now my prescription refill request from chewy is back and you refuse to refill it and say I was due for an exam August 7? Why didn't you say anything when I was already there?! I can't lose another 400-500 dollars and can't make it out until I have childcare in October but there's no leeway. No willingness to help out a new mom. No understanding that YOU GAVE ME FALSE Information. And when I'm frustrated and need the help, you're quick to close the chat and call it a day. Generally speaking, vet visits are a stressful thing for me and my furbaby. While still stressful, I've loved my visits with Modern Animal. This is my first experience with a vet where I've been able to go in the back and be with my cat during procedures. While my cat was getting some bloodwork and injections, she started frantically looking around and was able to stretch her head up in an awkward position where she could see me. She seemed to instantly calm down. She then held that awkward pose, continuing to hold eye contact, and laid still until they were done. I now feel awful for all the prior vet visits where I couldn't be by her side to help calm her. I have found all the vets and vet techs at Modern Animal to be down to earth, kind, capable, and personable. I also like their app, transparency with pricing, and ease with messaging and scheduling. My only suggestion for improvement would be to create a system so that cats and any other animals who aren't used to the outdoors to be able to routinely (not just for procedures) use the back entrance for check-in to reduce the stress on them... having to hustle around the block or run through the pet store next door, apologizing for the ridiculously loud meowing isn't ideal. Wonder if the city would allow you to hold the front street parking spots for short-term pet un/loading? He had my cat checked up carefully, and provided me some valuable recommendations on how to maintain oral health for my daughter cat. its my 2nd time to brought my cat to him. he is so professional. also, the front desk gentleman was so kind and helpful! the reason that why I dissatisfied was because the nurse. her name is Shan and she was not trained well. she had my cat did the phlebotomy. at the first time, she tried on my cat's left leg, but blood couldn't flows to the syringe successfully. and then, she moved the butterfly needle left and right while the needle was still inside of my cat's left leg and then she was trying to find the vein AND she FAILED! after that, she tried to do another one on my cat's left forearm again. and she MADE the same MISTAKE! she was asking "why it's so hard to draw the blood?!" I'm a medical student, Let me tell you it's because you didn't find the right place! BE AWARE OF NURSE SHAN. if your pet is going to have a blood test, tell then that you want another one. she is so unprofessional. read more

My vet came here and I am so happy we found her. Parking is a breeze but I also came in the morning. It is near the urth Cafe which may impact parking. Going in is already a different vibe compared to other vet clinics. It is calm and they offer water and flavored bubbly water for pet owners. You check in and wait with your pet. The rooms are big and full of windows My dog was so happy to be able to see who was approaching and leaving. They really do create a calming environment. He also got a licky mat with cheese spread while I answered questions about his history. The vet came in and checked him out. I think just seeing my dog so relaxed was reassuring to me. It wasn't just that he recognized the vet but just then energy and the way the officr is set up. I was even able to go back and pet him while they extracted a sample. We've been patients at Modern Animal for 2 years now (going on 3 in September). Disclaimer is that we first got in on a promotion where our first year was free, but did stay for the second year and are likely going to continue our membership. It is unfortunate that our membership fee has gone up every year, but when we compare it to the cost of one ad-hoc visit at our previous vet, it ends up being well-worth it for peace of mind. As a self-aware hypochondriac who's scared of everything for my dog, I like having the opportunity to reach out via chat (where I can also send photos and videos) with any concerns that I have and have a person evaluate whether it's worthwhile bringing Coco in to be examined. I've brought my dog in 3-4 times now and the waiting room is never busy, which is helpful as sometimes vet waiting rooms can be full of nervous pets (not their fault), but the energy can make my dog skittish, so I appreciate that they don't overbook and keep the waiting room relatively empty. That said, it can be difficult to get an appointment, especially at the Pasadena location, so that is one downside that I'm hoping will be fixed with more locations (east side, pleaseee) opening up. Free parking in the back for up to 6 spaces. All staff members have been extremely pleasant to work with; both the vet techs and vets are knowledgeable and kind. I never feel like I'm being rushed out the door and all of my concerns are met with empathy, no matter how small they may be. I do like the transparency you get when they push all suggestions/fees through the app so you can look at it by line-item in the moment (and it requires your approval). The quotes are reasonable - some services seem commensurate with other vets/clinics such as vaccines, prescriptions are slightly more expensive than online, but procedures such as dental work seem on the slightly above average to high side (although I don't have as much of a baseline for this). We haven't had anything major done here, just check ups, vaccines, and more routine stuff, so we can't speak to the more costly procedures yet. That said, operations are pretty shoddy; this yelp page and website suggest that the Pasadena location is open on Sundays, but I'm stand out in front with fecal samples and there's a sign saying "closed" while the hours printed ON THE DOOR say Monday-Sunday 8a-6p. This isn't the first time I've been standing in front of a "closed" sign holding a bag of sh*t. For the prices we pay for this "upscale" service, I expect better operations. read more

Me and my boyfriend took our girl Ube here because she had been vomiting white foam on and off for a few days. I figured this would be cheaper than going to a emergency vet, plus we wanted to get her set up at a good general vet clinic anyway. If you're looking for a place to take your fur baby for general check ups, vaccinations, nail trimming, or anything simple and general like that, this is a great place. They are clean, friendly, thorough and the free cold brew in the lobby is a nice touch! Also, it's super easy to make an appointment and talk to a professional through the app. We will 100% come back when Ube is due for her shots. If you're looking for a place to take your dog because they're showing signs of being sick (vomiting, coughing, diarrhea, etc.), I would consider taking the dog straight to an emergency vet. Our MA doctor was lovely but she after she did x-rags on ube, she sent us to an emergency hospital BEFORE we could hear from a radiologist. And by the time we had paid $$$$$$ at the emergency vet, she told us that the radiologist wasn't concerned at all. I was....frustrated to say the least. We had a wonderful first visit at Modern Animal-Pasadena! From the minute we joined the app and made our appointment there was incredible follow through on every aspect. Someone reached out to us to get the previous medical records we had (so easy to scan them in and submit them via email). And then Scott reached out to us the day before our appointment as our cat had a cough and there was a special protocol for checking in with a possible URI. Scott was amazing to meet us when we got there, even in the pouring rain. Then Juan took note of all our concerns while making sure Wednesday (our cat) was comfortable even bribing her with a treat to get her to stay still during the exam and nail trim. Finally, Dr. Hsu was so patient as my husband and I asked a ton of concerned parent questions. It was a truly special touch to receive a toy in a bag with Wednesday's name on it.
