MOD Pizza - is it short for Moderate Pizza? It could be, but It's an acronym for Made On Demand. Dining room has that industrial Pacific Northwest feel. It's nice, I like it. At your table side you'll find napkins, plates, Parmesan and chili flakes. Good call. Separate recycling containers - Go green peeps - a responsible measure. Service was friendly and fast. I had a nice conversation with a busboy and he was doing a great job. Ordering process was not efficient. Music playing in the background and the echo of people talking make it hard to communicate your order. Having to say your order to someone who circles each topping on a paper form is SLOW and tedious for both sides. It's extra slow when they ask you to repeat it a few times because they can't hear you. When there's a grip of people waiting it gets chaotic and confusing to know where the line forms. Two options to consider to speed things up: Let customers fill out the form for the toppings. Or Instead of circling items on a form, just go straight to making the pizza assembly line style. It works for other successful places like Chipotle, Pizza Rev and Pieology so why not? The BBQ chicken tastes like day old. Not fresh. Other toppings were good. The sauce coverage was no good - too much crust in proportion to the circumference. Go to the edges I say! The pizza crust reminds me of water crackers - you know light, not salty and crisp. I liked it but my crew did not. They said it reminds them of a flour tortilla. Beverage selection is excellent. Cups are one size which is good for simplicity but a pain to keep going back for refills. Milkshakes taste like McDonald's soft serve. There's room for improvement and I'm sure the place will get better especially when the competition heats up with Toppers and Pieology coming to town. First things first, I've been to majority of all the other fast food pizza joints throughout SoCal (800 degrees, PizzaRev, Pieology, Blaze). I wanted to grab something appetizing and quick before shopping at the Nike Clearance Store down the street. Ran into Mod pizza along the way and decided to give it a shot. Did a make your own pizza with white sauce, pep, chicken, bacon, olives, mushrooms, and tomato. Ended it with BBQ sauce on top and tried their Sriracha ranch on the side. The Verdict: Overall taste was on par with what I've been experiencing from Blaze (my most frequented fast food pizza spot). Everything was cooked well with a crispy dough finish. I'd say you pretty much get what you're expecting from a fast food pizza place at Mod, while they do have just as much (if not more) options to "mod" your pizza. The Sriracha ranch was tangy with a good hint of spice, not bad at all, kind of bubbly though. Also, the slices cut were kinda off to me, it had like a 90 degree angle to if it makes sense. But I mean hey, still tasted good. These are just tiny pet peeves from a guy that used to work at a fast food pizza joint haha! Mod has a good concept going. Have one standard price for an 11 inch pizza with 10 different standard models from carnivorous to lacto-ovo vegetarian but nothing that approaches vegan since cheese is the universal pizza food language at least in the universe created by Mod and most other Pizzerie (plural for pizzeria) Don't like any of the standard models? Then Mod gives you the option of "building your own" by your requesting various toppings for the same price. I wanted to put them to the test to see if they had some kind of theoretical limit on how many toppings I could order for $7.47, but with a long line of voracious, rapacious customers lying in wait behind me, I decided to do the Jasper which had most of things I wanted. The toppings on the Jasper pizza consisted of: Mozzarella, Mushrooms, "Spicy" Italian Sausage which was not so spicy, Mod Red Sauce which looked like Salsa Marinara (mah ree nah rah). I also added some red onion rings, and a drizzling of Pesto sauce which is basically ground up basil leaves, parmesan or pecorino cheese, pinenuts, olive oil, kiss of garlic. The pizza crust is similar to a Tarte Alsacienne or Lavash which is unleavened flat bread. Even though the crust is thin, it maintains structural integrity so that various toppings can be placed without the thin crust drooping or suddenly sheering off with the toppings on your lap unlike the limp pizza at Maximiliano's in Highland Park, Los Angeles. I took a bite into the Jasper, and for $7.47, it was A-OK. Not mind blowing, not generous & overflowing with good, hearty tasting & satisfying flavours with a thicker, bready crust like the ones at Chi Chi's Pizza in Simi Valley. However, the pizza at Chi Chi is almost twice the price as that at Mod's so it's like comparing a Fuji apple to a Gala. Similar but not quite the same. There are self service drinks for $1.99. I did the ice tea which tasted "manufactured" and not freshly brewed, but this is corporation food so you can't expect such fine labor intensive high cost methods. The other fruit based drinks, for me were too sweet & artificial tasting which is another corporate trick. There was beer & wine as stated on the overhead menu board, but with self service drinks so bad, I wasn't about to venture into the realm of wine or beer. Mod....brilliant concept but not the best execution in terms of good tasting, artisanal toppings, but for $7.47, you can't expect perfection. For this kind of corporate joint, it's better than most. My only truly negative critique is that the pizza overall seems to have a high salt/sodium content. Not particularly good for the hypertensive. PS Clarification From Mary D. of Mod Pizza: " Our Iced Tea is made fresh daily with organic tea bags right there in our kitchens. Our Lemonades are also house made with natural ingredients (no high fructose corn syrup). MOD pizza is by no means a bad place. The food is not bad and it is a place to MOD-ify the pizza to your liking. You get to personalize what toppings go on your pizza. I remember they had other set names for their pizzas, where you don't have to change them. As with most people, why go thru all the trouble to choose what you want on your pizza, without knowing how the ingredients mix and taste together? But, it certainly makes the pizza taste not bad at all. It is a small little pizza with ingredients like: tomatoes, onions, sausage, Parmesan, olives, anchovies, pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, chicken, steak, barbecue sauce, tomato sauce and much more. Outside is a bank and atm if you are short on cash. The outside is casual and peaceful. Inside, there is mellow music playing, a bathroom and locked WiFi. You can sit on high chairs with a table set up next to the window to look outside while you eat. The tables inside with seats are also located at a lower height in the middle. A great place to take someone on a date or being together with family. The walls are decorated with different art pieces and there wasn't a bathroom last time I checked. Overall, it is unique how you can make your own pizza. The prices of the pizza are not cheap nor expensive, it lies in the 10$ range depending on what toppings are put on your pizza. The patio area was pretty full, probably cuz of how amazing the weather was. We ended up bringing a few tables together inside, which again, wasn't an issue. I ended up going with a regular MOD with Marinera sauce, Pepperoni, Canadian Bacon, Mushrooms, Onions, Bell Peppers & Jalapeño. I was really satisfied with my pizza. Quick and easy, just like the girls downtown. Except SCV doesn't really have a downtown or those types of girls... sorta. Design your own pizza that is quickly cooked in a blazing oven may not be a new concept in LA, but MOD is the first of it's kind in SCV. The ingredients and toppings aren't anything unique or special but the end product is a pretty decent thin crust pizza. I prefer to have someone labor over flavor profiles and combinations to offer me a unique signature taste, but it's always nice to be able to customize based on your mood and preference. The price is pretty affordable (COC and CalArts studends rejoice!) and I believe is set no matter how you customize, the service is very friendly and accommodating and the beverage options are plenty (sodas, beers, seasonal iced teas, milkshakes). Mod is a great take on BYO pizza, has a good option for most people, whether you're vegetarian, gluten free or even carb free (great BYO salads) you can find something good here. We hosted my son's 10th birthday party here on a Wednesday night. When we called to ask if there was anyway we could reserve the patio, they asked how many people. We told them approximately 40 and they said they would be happy to reserve it. Party was at 5:30, we arrived at 4:30. They had already cleared the patio and put up signs that it was "Reserved for XXXXX's birthday party". It gave us a full hour to decorate (which was plenty of time). Not only did Holly allow us to decorate, she encouraged it! She took before and after decorating pictures to send to the owners. I grabbed a beer to enjoy while we decorated. At 5:30, we started piling people into line in groups of 10. They had us ring up after each group of 10 and pay. This part was a little clunky but it's because this is a brand new process for them. I think it will get smoother in the future (Maybe just give them a card or a deposit or something). Anyway, didn't bother us at all and it went pretty fast. Everyone got their food and drinks and EVERYTHING WAS MADE CORRECTLY. FOR 40 PEOPLE. LET THAT SINK IN. Holly was replaced by Angelica and the transition was smooth. They never rushed us out, always checked on us, and made us feel welcomed and important. Many of the parents who were in our party told us things like "you guys hit that one out of the park" and "how did you get this reserved? this is great!" etc. Highly recommend. My friends and I found this place by pure luck. We were driving back from a road trip and the name just caught our eye. Our dinner was an experience. The man who made our pizza, Brennan, was amazing. He went above and beyond to make our pizza as delicious as possible. He gave us fresh dough and put on the sauce with such precision and care. The pizza has thin crust and for those Jews out there the dough reminds me of soft matzah. Everything tastes very fresh! As far as flavor and options of sauces, cheeses, and toppings. Not one single thing to complain about or improve. Came here on our way here me from a camping trip. We were hungry and dressed like street urchins. We were greeted warmly and treated like everyone else. Love this concept, my pizza my way. Too bad I had to share with my husband...we had the Dominic which is a white sauce and I added mushrooms. I swear, if you designed your own pizza, you can't have any complaints. And mine was good. Very small selection of beers on tap, but they had one of my favorites, a latitude 33 blood orange, so again, no complaints from me. My daughter had a strawberry shake. Was driving up I-5, and looking for a good/cheap pizza place to take my kids. Yelpers highly rate this place, that turns out to be a pretty big chain that I've never heard of. It's basically like Pieology or Blaze pizza. A build it yourself, fast casual, pizza joint. I wasn't in the mood to build something from scratch, so went with the Mad Dog. There is a nice outdoor seating with a nearby outdoor theater where I imagine events take place, but not on this afternoon. Got the 11 inch MOD that I thought would be enough for me and my 2 kids. It wasn't. I could have probably eaten it myself. So I'll be going someplace else in another hour or so. Big fan of creme soda, and noticed the Boylan brand. First time experience with it, and it is my opinion that it is not as good as Jones creme soda, which I feel, taste like a marshmallow. Intense, I know. Overall, the experience is no different than the aforementioned fast casual pizza places. As far as taste, I actually prefer Blaze. What a great find! We got there late- after 10 PM hoping that they were open and that we weren't keeping them from closing (bc that's the worst for both sides). The guy who worked there was in the best mood; so happy to see people, especially ones who have never been there before. He joked around about it being the best pizza we will ever try and it was fun to banter back-and-forth with him. I'm definitely a meat eater and I love to try to new things so my pizza was piled high. The food was fresh and the place was clean even though it was almost closing. They make their own lemonade and that was totally worth it! They have their liquor license if that's helpful to anyone but we stuck with the fresh made options. I'm updating my old review. I've been back to MOD recently. The staff are aways friendly and courteous. My co-worker asked one of the workers to change their gloves because she's a vegetarian and didn't want any cross contamination. I cringed (as a meat eater, I don't see it as a big deal), but the server was so kind and swiftly changed his gloves. Wow! That's awesome how they cared enough to do that. During my more recent visits, the crust is not as soggy as it used to be and now it has a nice crispy crust, just the way I like it. The cheese is nice and gooey. I love the addition of grilled garlic cloves. Yum!!!! I appreciate that MOD is conscious of our environment and try to separate waste and recyclable items. Kudos! I like the self service drinks which includes tea and lemonade and I don't mean soda brand teas and lemonade, I mean REAL stuff. I'm officially a fan. read more

We've hit all the new pizza on demand places popping up all over and we've found MOD is the best by far. First they seem to have the best assortment and quality of ingredients. Their salads are really good also. Try the deluxe salad with mixed greens, it's great. They are the only place that keeps broccoli as a topping, which might not sound to appetizing but it's actually really good. Our 6 year old only eats pizza with broccoli now! Anyway we are glad they have a shop in Santa Clarita and happy to say that we are regulars coming once every week or two. One other tip.
