The owner's daughter was super sweet and accommodating. This area is so beautiful and we were happy to get a last minute crash pad.

The yurts are wonderful and roomy, the beds are comfy, they keep everything tidy, and they provide so many perks! Let me expand, they have an incredible staff, people who truly love what they are doing and their enthusiasm is infectious! Every night we were there a warm fire greeted us with snapping and popping welcoming us back from our Seward explorations! The kitchen and cooking area is always clean and welcoming. You must cook your own food, there are flattops, BBQ grills, or even a stick by the campfire. I was familiar with s'mores which they provide ingredients for but I was introduced to stick bread, its life changing! There are so many options to use you can make gourmet meals or something simple, they make it easy no matter what your cooking abilities will allow! Morning coffee and tea are waiting hot and fresh, they also provide pancake/waffle mix for you to add to your planned meal. They have a supply of chocolate chips for a sweet twist but if you want with Alaskan style, and if you're lucky enough to be staying during blueberry season the property is abundant with high bush blueberries! Send someone out on a blueberry walk and add them to your fresh waffles or pancakes. Alaskan summer brings out the midnight sun, literally, but for extra light the paths to all of the yurts are well lit which make late night snack time or early morning coffee pleasant. The yurts do not have bathrooms inside them, you must venture out to the shared facilities. If you want an adventure that is unique, fun, and will be a memorable part of your Alaska experience, the Nauti Otter is the best!

It all started simply enough, I had heard there was a "rustic" hostel outside of Seward and I was…read moregoing to be doing some night time-lapse photography and hiking in the area. I rolled in here to discover there was no room in the hostel proper, but there was room in the "trapper's cabin", for $75. It seemed a bit steep for what was basically a small room with a light in it. (No bathroom, but there was an outhouse with a broken toilet seat!) But, we were tired so I reluctantly agreed, filled out some paper work, and went to hand my credit card for payment. I was informed that they did not take credit cards. I then started asking about if they had tent platforms (I may have enough cash to cover one of those), she said "No, we don't". I said the sign out front said there were tent spots available. She said "well, you can put a tent up if you want" "How much for that?" "$25" (stopping and thinking to myself...don't think I have that much cash on me) Then she starts pressuring me back into getting the trapper's cabin. "Well, are you going into Seward sometime tonight or tomorrow?" "Well, yeah, probably" "Ok, just get some cash there and pay me tomorrow, no worries" Ok, cool! Then the next day, I'm in Seward eating brunch and I get a call from a number I don't recognize. I take it. It's the owner of the hostel, angry that I hadn't paid her yet, thinking I had skipped town. I told her I was in town eating and I'd bring the money by afterwards. I did. I gave her $80, said "here's eighty", and she did not give me change, was rude and short with me, and showed me to the door. Now I go on this hostel's website (very had to find any information about this hostel's existence on google, by the way) and see that he cabin is priced at $60! Wow, I guess I was had. If you're looking to stay in the Seward area and not spend a lot of money, I'd have two recommendations: 1) The Ptarmigan Camp Ground a few miles from this hostel, it's only $12 to put up a tent (compared to $25 here). This was my original plan but all the spots were taken. 2) The Moby Dick hostel near downtown Seward (review coming up), it's $30 and you can walk to the limited but super-fun Seward nightlife. Don't come here, unless you enjoy paying $80 to stay in a cabin with an unsealed-door (how do you feel about bugs?) and crap in an outhouse.

The place is old but has charm and makes you feel like your at home. This place might not be for everyone and perhaps that is what the previous people that wrote a review were looking for because our experience was a pleasant one. They went out of their way to accommodate us in every way possible, even allowing us access to their home for showers and cooking as it is a hostel after all! We were traveling with another couple and their opinion mirrored ours, so I guess it's all a matter of perspective. On a negative note, they are not set up to accept credit cards, which would have been helpful but we were told that when we called so it was NO surprise. We would definitely stay here again!!

At around $300 per night, it…read morewas one of the few somewhat affordable options we could find in Seward, so we kept our expectations realistic. I'd give 4 stars to the housekeeping staff. It's clear they worked hard to keep the room clean, but they overlooked some basics like making sure we had enough toilet paper, shampoo, and other toiletries. The front desk staff also deserves 4 stars. She was very friendly and genuinely tried her best to move us into a room that was more acceptable. Unfortunately, she seemed to be running the entire front desk by herself, so there were long periods when no one was available because she was helping other guests. The motel itself, however, is where it loses points. Every time we opened the room door, we were greeted by a strong old carpet smell. The property is also very outdated. The door still has an old-style privacy latch that says "Do Not Disturb," and the room layout was puzzling--the large mirror is hidden behind the TV, making it almost unusable. The bathroom also had virtually no counter or shelf space to put toiletries or personal items, which made getting ready inconvenient. Overall, we were thankful we only had to stay a couple of nights. If you're simply looking for a place to sleep in an expensive town like Seward, it does the job. But for $300 a night, we expected a room that felt more updated and thoughtfully designed.

The queen room was simple and had a min-fridge, tv, toilet, sink, & shower. This is not a luxurious hotel, and it does not pretend to be. I stayed here for my birthday in 2021, and I've been meaning to review them ever since. I'm…read moresitting here with COVID going through a long "to-do" list of things I've always meant to check-off so, here I am, reviewing this place. First the good: The A-frames are fantastically built and appointed. They look like they were built more to be photographed for the latest social media app than they were built to be lived in. The location is incredible, it's easy to walk right on down to the beach. The bad: This place has a very, very odd tone. On one hand, the business talks about community and integrating into the community. On the other hand, it charges $450/night with a 2-night minimum? It really takes a privileged person to be able to afford $900 for a weekend, probably not someone from the community. On top of that, you are expected to do little "chores" around the A-frames...or risk paying even more. Seriously. This place is priced like a luxury hotel but has chores like a $20/night hostel. Very confusing and conflicting vibes. The views: when we were there, the views from the A-frame were of other cabins...under construction. So we mainly had views of white sheets of TYVEK. You are really, really close to the other A-frame. You are forced to get friendly. Depending on who is in the other A-frame this could be really good or really bad. Again, an odd thing for $900. I was lucky enough that my girlfriend surprised me with a night here for my birthday. The only way she could afford it is because she begged to do one night only, and they also gave us a slight discount because of the TYVEK views. It's great if you can afford it, just make sure you do all your chores. For those of us that are used to sleeping on public lands (the owners include themselves in this lot)...this is only good for a one-time splurge and even then...your $900 might be better spent on a plane ticket to somewhere else.

The location is great, it's walking distance from the Sealife Center (if you are from out of state and have extra time, please come to the SeaLife Center in 2020, they need money) and a few good places to eat. They have the normal measures for COVID. Why only four stars? Well, it's fairly well equipped to stay in for more than one night but I haven't ever tested that. The toilets are slow to flush, the rooms have a weird vinegar smell I never noticed before. Maybe the smell is the new cleaning protocol they have, not sure. Oh, and we could hear every flush above us. Really, it's a great place for a short stay. The service is great, just like almost everywhere in Seward!!
