Hello new entrant to the Canadian mobile market. You are a bandwagon jumper... but had the most attractive offering a couple weeks back and I couldn't resist. I joined Mobilicity to take advantage of the unlimited North American talk and text, unlimited data, and unlimited global text, all for $40 per month. Well, you kinda get what you pay for.... but considering I think they're alright. I got the Motorola Spice. I have had handset issues. When I ring technical support I end up supporting them and talking them through how to work the phone (I do work in technology and have experience with mobile o/s in fairness, but still). They are just generally useless and sometimes incredibly unprofessional. Service at the dealer was fantastic though i will say and the self-serve web portal is awesomeness... just google your way through any troubleshooting. In terms of coverage, I knew it would be an issue. However, the coverage map said where I currently live is covered. Indeed it is not. I live in a deadzone. So I have a mobile I can't use at home. I do have a groundline, but really. I have put up with it because service everywhere else has been grand. Data coverage is a bit spotty which is a real battery drainer, but that would also be related to my crappy handset. Overall I am glad I made the switch, porting my existing number was simple stupid. And really, for the price I would say they have met or slightly exceeded my expectations. read more

Rating Mobilicity is difficult. Do I consider their status as a "budget" provider, or do I compare them equally with the big boys? Somewhere in-between? How about both? As a budget provider, I think they're pretty good. 3 stars, maybe even 3.5. If you only need some basic functionality and low-bandwidth internet, no worries. Be aware, however, that they heavily throttle their 'net provision, so you won't really be able to do things like stream video or internet radio. I even frequently had trouble accessing the Android app store, to give you an idea of how slow it could be. *** In other words, don't bother springing for a shiny, pricey smart phone, because you won't get to take advantage of its beefy processor. (Currently they have a pay-up-front unlimited 12-month plan that comes with a "free" Blackberry Curve, and I'm left wondering: "what's the point if I can't stream video?") *** In comparison with everyone on the market, they're 2 stars, maybe even marginally less. "You get what you pay for" is definitely the adage here, because you're not going to get much. Good audio on calls, very basic internet access, spotty technical support, and coverage that, while great in central TO, breaks down the further out you go (even when in a coverage zone). So really, hey, if you've got a tween who really wants a pretty little phone to look at facebook pictures but you don't want to break the bank, Mobilicity is probably a fine choice. But if you really need some decent coverage and good data, go elsewhere. Rogers and Bell will still murder your wallet, WIND and Public suffer from some of the same problems as Mobilicity, and Fido, well... at least they don't throttle their internet. I want providers like Mobilicity, WIND, etc to be successes so we no longer suffer the absurd tyranny of Rogers, but at the same time I'm just not willing to be an early adopter if my money is only supporting a sort of mediocre status quo rather than an actual force for change. They have sold us product but we can not charge to our credit cards. Our address doesn't exist and they point the finger at Canada Post. ( Lived here for 2 years, get mail every weekday ). They say it is the Canada Post system that is not updated. So i go to Canadapost.com, i can do a postal code look up. For over a year they can not and will not solve the problem. There call center ( Central America ) is super polite, great at saying sorry but can not solve the problem and will not tell you when it will be solved. ( Over 1 year now ) Amazing how many companies can not focus on Solving issues. ( It's not about problems or mistakes but how they are handled and fixed ) No so much here. ( Corporate culture training session is required. ) The billing solution is to use another address, but you can not use your credit card. If you go to use your bank card - but if you are with CIBC that will not work. So go to our stores and pay an extra service fee each time ( Doesn't help if you are traveling as i was in Arizona. I thought that when Mobilicity came on to the landscape of cell phone companies in this country, we would have a clean, above board, good mobile company. However mobilicity turns out to be just as bad as the rest of them. Dropped calls everywhere you go, even on the Deerfoot trail in Calgary (happen to have gotten a flat tire a few weeks ago) couldn't contact anyone and for anyone who has driven on the deerfoot trail it is one of the most wide open spaces in Calgary. No service in Chestermere, just 10 minutes out of Calgary and on top of that, overbilled my credit card, giving my credit card company a wonderful overbilling charge of $29, because Mobilicity would not be responsible for the charge even though CLEARLY!!! they were responsible for it. Even droppen calls three times while I was talking to them regarding the charges. Verry baaaad company. Stay away. read more

I switched my Rogers phones three weeks ago. 3 hours later I noticed that I did not receive a signal in my house. I returned to the store at Hazeldean Mall Kanata where I had to re-purchase two sim cards at Rogers store in order to be reactivated. I then went to Mobilicity (in the same mall). Mobilicity refunded my money for the two phones and could not return my $90 for the first month service on both phones. The manager said I would get a check sent in the mail in 3-5 days. I returned to the store several times during the week to see if they would reimburse me for the $22 I spent on replacing the sim cards. The manager stated " I am waiting for my boos to get back to me on that". The 5th day after I returned the phones I returned to get an answer as to why I did not receive my $90 and also the $22 for the sim cards. The manager stated " sorry, we are not giving you the $22 and your check is in the mail. I then said that I will inform all customers that your service is poor and product is awful. I stood outside the store and waited. The manager called security and they in turn security called police. Oh, I live across the street where I bought this product with no signal. read more

Be warned before you use Mobilicity internet if you are a gamer. Mobilicity blocks all online gaming applications. After using Mobilicity 3G internet for approximately 3 weeks, I found that none of my online gaming applications would connect to the internet any longer. The games blocked were World of Warcraft, Fallen Earth, Champions Online, LOTRO, and Conan. When I contacted the company about this the response I received was, "To ensure all our customers are receiving equal service; Mobilicity continues to not allow peer to peer data sharing services on our network. The implication of this type of usage is that many other customers cannot enjoy our data services because of the intensive nature of peer to peer activities. Unfortunately, if your intention is to use our data services primarily for such peer to peer activities then we suggest you try another provider. " Although the only part of any of these games that are P2P are the updaters, the company feels it's acceptable to block the games themselves, although according to the same issue with Rogers, they need specific permission from the CRTC to block time sensitive P2P applications. read more
