The walls were a rich colour, yet light and airy. The outer balcony looked like quite a nice place to sit and look out over the grounds of the Pavilion. However it was a bit chilly when my friend and I went, so we stayed inside. Admission is only available through the Brighton Pavilion museum itself, but for a local a visit comes to about £5 if you prove residence and get the discount for booking online. Obviously not somewhere you'd just pop into, but if you're looking to visit the Pavilion anyway, may as well! My friend and I each ordered the Sussex blend tea, which was nice. We were going to split the remaining slice of gluten free chocolate cake that was on display. But we were then told that there was also a gluten free lemon cake. So we got both. The lemon cake was seriously VERY good. It was moist and very lemony. Poor neglected chocolate cake (which was also nice, but a bit dry, perhaps from sitting uncovered all day), we shovelled the lemon cake down. The tearoom is basically the last bit before the gift shop, so if you get there and have time to kill, I'd stop in. :)

The carpet is horribly patterned and the tables and chairs are outdated, but still, hoards of unperturbed tourists pile in to buy overpriced tea and sandwiches. You've got to admire it really! Sadly you can't access the cafe unless you have paid for entrance to the Royal Pavilion itself. This is a real shame, because the balcony is really quite a spectacular place to enjoy a pot of tea- the views of the Pavilion Gardens and the old stables (now Brighton and Hove Museum) are lovely. The sandwiches (tuna, cheese and pickle, egg and cress etc.) come with kettle chips and salad but in my opinion you really ought to have a cream tea, when dining in a palace! The Royal Pavilion is quite an experience- and it is quite possible to feel a spot of stimulus overload (both visual and informational) by the time you make it upstairs- the tearooms provide a nice resting spot to sit and digest.

After a long walk from Brighton Marina to the Pier, and a lot of shopping in The Lanes, we were ready for an Afternoon Tea! This Tea Shop is in the heart of "The Lanes", a picturesque location amidst brightly coloured shops, cafes and restaurants, in narrow, winding alleyways that make for a unique shopping area. It was lucky we went in at 4.30pm... They close at 5pm, but we were welcomed in as one of the last guests before they announced they were closed. It also meant we not only got a table, but the place started clearing out before we'd finished, so we ended up being the last customers, which was nice. It's a cute, cozy little tea shop, pretty on the outside and inside, with pictures of Brighton on the walls and an eclectic mixture of teapots, milk jugs and cups. It had been many years since I'd last had a "cream tea" and this didn't disappoint. We ordered some fruit scones and some plain scones (both were yummy but I recommend the fruit ones - the raisins & sultanas are really plump and juicy!). We also tried our scones both ways - cream then jam (the Devon way), and jam then cream (the Cornish way)... I'd been brought up the Devon way, but discovered the Cornish way is actually more to my liking! Both were yummy! We didn't buy any cakes, but the cakes (as well as the scones) are made fresh daily and looked delicious. And I must say, the tea itself was fresh and superior quality - loose leaf English breakfast, rather than bagged, really makes a difference. Our server was very sweet and friendly, and then, at the end, since we were the last customers, the shop owner came out to talk to us, and was super friendly and welcoming... She asked where we were from (always fun, as I'm British, but my husband and daughter are American). Despite it being the end of her day, she didn't rush us out at all, and enjoyed chatting with us. I'd had a recommendation to try to find Leman Tea Room and it was well worth the quick walk. The owner kindly let me in and it was bliss. So warm and toasty, and adorably decorated. I ordered a slice of their spinach and banana cake, and a cup of tea. Both were just what I needed. The cake was fresh, handmade, and not too sweet at all. I polished it down with my little teapot of tea. The owner left me alone to my thoughts and to warm up at my own pace, never hurrying me. I love little finds like this, with plenty of the owner's and local character throughout!

My friends and I decided to check out this adorable spot in Brighton around lunchtime. The scone was delicious and the spread that the restaurant provided me was a perfect blend of butter, cream, and jam. We each got a pot of tea to ourselves, too. We sat at a table outside to enjoy the nice day out but the jam did attract the bugs around there and there was a bee that kept hovering around my food. And you get to listen to street performers too! a win-win situation indeed. So how did i come to this place, you ask? Well, to ease my broken heart over my brother's missing camera due to my stupidity, i decided to go to a tea place to lift my mood up a tad bit. Someone recommended me of this place, and i did my research of its whereabouts a couple days ago, so remembering its location on the map, i ventured out. the service was a little slow, but nothing to bitch about. When my tea came, my mood instantly became happier. the fruit scone was good, and it came with cups(?) of butter and jam. I think i prefer mock turtle over this place, but still very satisfying! it sure tickled my fancy. hehe.
