Downgrading from "Good" to "Could've been better." This is better than a "Not good" rating and with…read moreupdated information, more accurate to my experience. And with that I will share the facts of my diagnosis and prognosis as to know why the rating changed. You know that joke about "Why do they call it 'practicing' medicine?" It's because much of it is not an exact science. Here we go... Emergency room doctors are generalists across multiple medical disciplines. Especially at 10pm on a Sunday night, you're likely not going to get a specialist in whatever it is that's wrong with you. An emergency room physician (which is a medical specialty in itself) will try to narrow down the main cause of your condition, stabilize you, and depending on the prognosis, either either treat you in the ER, admit you to the hospital for further treatment or simply refer you to a doctor who is more specialized in your condition. I visited Atrium Health three weeks ago (see that review below) and the doctor saw me twice, sent me down the hall for a CT imaging and after reviewing the imaging, wrote a prognosis that made sense at the time: a 6mm kidney stone that would painfully pass by itself in 4 or 5 days. I was also provided a referral to a urologist . She wrote me up for painkillers and by the time I was discharged, the pain was much more manageable. I called their urologists and got a full voice mail so I reached out to my own general practitioner for a referral. Long story short (too late!), I've seen the urologist who looked at what the ER doctor saw. It's three weeks later. Warning: Gross bits ahead. Skip the next paragraph if you're queasy about medical stuff. ("POTATO!" -inside joke.) This morning was a scheduled outpatient procedure that stuck a laser up my ureter and zapped the stone. (And thank goodness for a great anesthesiologist because I was blanked out from the pre-op room to the recovery room and I do not remember a thing!) This surgical urologist said that it was definitely bigger than 6mm and it was definitely not going to pass on its own. I'm now at home and 100%, just waiting for the local discomfort to pass in the next few hours. Okay, we're back from the skip. Simply looking at the calendar we can see that it has been 22 days since then. The stone clearly didn't pass and I've not had any further issue with it since then but I didn't want to wait. Obviously, it's been more than 4 or 5 days. Good thing I cancelled my trip to Portugal, eh? So the highlight here is that yes, your ER doctor is going to do the very best that they can. But you should absolutely get a second opinion from a more specialized doctor where possible. [Review 18619 overall - 3340 in North Carolina - 2141 of 2022.]

While sitting in the car was useful (A/C, tunes, etc.), the wait was too long, especially since I had an appointment. I also didn't appreciate the swab jammed way up my nose without warning. All the other tests were simple nostril samples since I was being tested before medical procedures could be performed. Pissed me off. On a positive note, I found out my results in 48 hrs. Failed it. Winning!

Over the years I have…read moreEMPHATICALLY declined the HPV shots for my children; almost to the point that I've been belligerent. Have begged to have a note put in their charts that we didn't want our children to have this shot. When my now 18YO was in the 4th grade, someone made a mistake and noted in her chart that she had the first shot. My husband thought I changed my mind and agreed to the "second" shot for her and the first for our oldest. Now today, my 18YO is asked about getting the booster without the nurse explaining what it was for. I wanted to give my child (who is legally an adult) some space for this appt and trust that things would be explained to her. I should have changed practices when the first mistake was made. We will for sure be changing doctors now. I love the docs we had for both of our kids which is why we stayed. This is the only practice my children have gone to so we've been with them for 20 years. With the nurse not explaining what shots she was giving my child today, the medical mistake with the incorrect note 9 years ago and there never being a note put in their charts after repeatedly begging them to put it in there, I can't recommend this practice at all to anyone looking for a pediatrician. Proceed at your own risk if you choose to use this practice and stay vigilant for your child. Don't trust the people you should be able to trust to give the best care to your most precious babies. Dr. Smoak and Jennifer Baxley are great. Can't speak to the rest of the doctors. The nurses and front desk staff, I have absolutely nothing good to say about them. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Being new to the area, I made an appointment over the phone, choosing this office based on proximity to my home & the positive reviews that I read. After giving my insurance information, for some reason my birthdate came back unverified and they were almost refusing me an appointment. I offered to call my insurance company and resolve the issue; they made my appointment. This morning, two hours before my appointment, they stated there were still issues verifying my insurance. I offered to self pay until it was all sorted -- estimated $450, depending on what the Dr. Would be billing me for (Crazy, but I'm unwell so I was willing to pay it) I was made to feel so uncomfortable during this over the phone exchange, the woman answered me "are you sick ? It sounds like you're sick -- is it your throat ? that's why you're coming in today, right?" ... me: "no ma'am, this is my normal voice." I couldn't stand to be on the phone any longer being treated in a rushed manner with zero respect. I cancelled my appointment and will be warning others not to come in. :(

I've never experienced a doctor that was as dismissive as Dr. Lu, who raced through her "speech" about all of the negative aspects of my situation, without one positive or hopeful word of encouragement. Telling me multiple times my treatment would take at least a year. The worse part of all was that she left an open wound on my foot where she took a sample. I was advised prior that it would simply be the clipping of my toenail. This is extremely dangerous for me as a Type 2 Diabetic, which she knew. I will not be returning to this office for any future services, and I would recommend anyone considering Charlotte Footcare Associates, think twice if they care about being billed correctly and having a doctor that has some semblence of compassion and care for their patients.
