I rarely leave reviews, but I feel it's important to share my experience to protect other people from hiring Mark as their accountant. I hired Mark to help clean up some work left behind by a previous accountant. Unfortunately, the experience ended up being just as disappointing--if not worse. During what was supposed to be an active and ongoing engagement, Mark became completely unresponsive. This was especially concerning given that he had access to both my personal financial information and business accounts. There were no status updates, no clear next steps, and no transparency around the progress of the work. After months of emailing and calling Mark with no response, I asked my husband to reach out. He finally made contact with Mark and he acknowledged that he was overwhelmed and had not been handling things professionally after being completely unresponsive for months. When it comes to something as important and sensitive as personal and business accounting, communication and reliability are essential. Unfortunately, this experience lacked both. I came to Mark after a difficult experience with a previous accountant, already dealing with complex back taxes and sensitive financial matters. I was hoping for professionalism, reliability, and a fresh start. Unfortunately, this experience turned out to be even more disappointing. Communication was a consistent issue. Scheduled calls were frequently missed, often with last-minute excuses citing that he wasn't feeling well. While occasional conflicts are understandable, this became a pattern rather than an exception. Despite providing my tax documentation well in advance, deadlines were still missed. My taxes were filed late, requiring an extension, which ultimately resulted in a $1,600 penalty. I was assured this would be addressed and waived, but that resolution never materialized, and I was left responsible for the cost. Accuracy was also a concern. Draft returns regularly contained significant omissions and errors, including missed write-offs and incomplete information that I had already provided. I often had to go line-by-line to correct issues that should have been handled with care and attention to detail. The most troubling part of this experience was the lack of professionalism toward the end of our working relationship. After literally months of unanswered calls and emails, I only learned (through a third party) that I was no longer considered a client. This was never communicated to me directly, despite the amount of personal and financial information I had entrusted to him. I worked with him for two years. After a difficult first year, he acknowledged shortcomings and committed to doing better. Unfortunately, the second year was even more problematic. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend his services. Reliability, communication, and accountability are essential in this field, and those standards were not met. read more

Nice guy, but a terrible business person. Mark was twice as expensive as my previous accountants which wouldn't be so bad if he was great at his job. My experience with him was frustrating to say the least. He gave me constant excuses about why he couldn't get my return done. This went on for months until he finally had to file an extension, and then again failed to complete the return by a newly agreed upon date. You can't keep clients if you operate this way. I'd suggest people look elsewhere for their accounting and tax prep needs. read more

MJ Tax Services billed me in advance for 2023 tax preparation. Then charged me additional fee before I even submitted my 2023 tax records to prepare. I sent certified mail to cancel my Agreement and requested a refund. I'm still waiting. Then they increased my hourly rate to $425 and charged me for responding to my cancellation and request for refund. I filed a BBB South Florida complaint and they added a $425 per hour charge to respond to that complaint and added more bogus charges. That's a top dollar fee for a company with no Florida license for CPA as their webpage claims, and no IRS certification for tax preparation. I went back to my previous CPA licensed tax preparer and ended up paying almost 1/3 less the total MJ Tax fee for my 2023 Income Tax. read more

It was the year-end tax season for 2021, and I was facing the October 15 filing deadline that was days away. I told Mark about my predicament, and he calmly told me not to worry and that he could take care of my issue. He came through with flying colors! Fast forward to today, and he has done incredible work on my behalf. Just a few months ago, I had Mark review some of my prior year's taxes. He discovered that the previous tax person had failed to file my returns properly and saddled me with a wrong tax burden.
