After taking a look at the candy, gelato and desserts, we settled on key lime pie. The key lime pie was pretty good, though it was perhaps a little too sweet and the filling rather dry. Because we were first time customers, the shopkeeper offered us each a piece of complimentary candy. The candy had a shell filled with a confection containing Japanese citrus yuzu fruit. The shell was coated with dark chocolate. I'm just going to say this was the tastiest, most delightful candy I've ever sampled. Dolce & Bean also sells attractively designed packages of candies. These would make good gifts. We absolutely will be back for more candy and want to try the gelato. One minor thing is that the shop was chilly and I had to put my hoodie on. But heck, aren't most restaurants and stores around the DMV freezing cold in the summer?

The buttermilk biscuit is nice and fluffy and the sausage is well seasoned and egg was cooked to perfection with some melty cheese! The PB Cup in and blanket was yummy too! A stagger advised I heat it ijnthe microwave for 10 seconds and it was so gooey! The Oreo in a Blanket was also great! I really enjoy Bakeshop and I'm so glad I live really close to one! We were given a comfortable corner table with a view of the well-appointed room and the river beyond. The menu offers something for every appetite. We ordered the cream tea and the savory tea to share. This gave us classic and delicious scones -- proper English ones; not those triangular abominations that so many American establishments offer -- with Devonshire cream, strawberry preserves and lemon curd. Croissants were also an available option. The savory tea offered a choice of classic sandwiches which were all wonderful, but I particularly loved the chicken salad. Of course we each were given a pot of tea with a vast assortment to choose from. Earl Gray has long been my favorite, but somehow Lady Camellia's offers the best I've ever tasted on either side of the Atlantic. All of this was perfect enough, yet it was served to us by the loveliest woman who seemed to take genuine pleasure in our enjoyment of the whole experience. We can't wait to go back. One note: Lady Camellia's address is on the Strand, but if a member of your party has mobility issues, you'll want to avoid this route as steps block your way. Instead, approach from S.
