Just finished a great dinner. Taylor was our server and she was amazing. I understand that it is her first night on her own. But it seemed like she had been there forever. We rented a boat from a nearby place, we tried to get gas but they recommended us here instead Getting gas was a great experience. The owner greeted us in his Grateful Dead shirt like a boss. I felt at home already. There was a nice little food area and ice cream spot. Some very green grass with some corn hole boards and other good vibes stuff. We decided to get some pizza and wings from the restaurant. Morgan was our server for a party of 11 and she did an excellent job. Our pizza and wings were very good. They had sweet tea, I wasn't sure if this counted as "the south" still or not but it was perfect. Our bill was only $125 for several large pies, 24 wings, and mostly sodas. Super Fun Exciting Times We had such a great time during our recent stay. We were so comfortable in the house, and everything was well stocked, and convenient for our 2 Veterans. We felt like we were home. Even the wait staff were considerate to Veterans at every encounter at the restaurant. Additionally, we borrowed the Patriot Cruiser pontoon boat for some family time on the lake. It added another layer of fun for our family. Jeff, you were so understanding and encouraging to our Veterans, and our family. We truly appreciate your Service and Blessing fellows who served. You epitomize my favorite bumper sticker: Some gave All and All gave some. Chris, you were so professional, kind, and considerate to our family. You made us feel valued and respected. Best place on the lake to gas up, grab food and get back on the lake! Chris and his staff orchestrate the fill up zone like clockwork. Food can be ordered for pick up or you can eat in if you can get a table. Ice cream and cold drinks make this a one stopper. If you like spicy sandwiches get the Clifford! Outstanding with a side of onion rings. Breading on the calamari was great as well. read more

Don't go, this place is a pit. The kayaks are low end kayaks. The staff was nice, that is the only positive. The restrooms were disgusting! There is no food options other than a pit that looked so unappealing it was not even worth attempting to eat there. Other than that, we had an unexpected emergency, our whole party was not even able to get into the water, with no attempt to offer a refund. read more

This is a great marina. They hosted a car show and it was wonderful. The view of Smith Mountain Lake from the marina is amazing. It was also nice meeting the staff. Mitchell's Point Marina offers boat rentals, RV park and a nice restaurant. This is one of my favorite places at Smith Mountain Lake and I highly recommend a visit. read more

Mitchell's is your one-stop-all type of Marina. They have a restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining, live music on the weekends and easy-to-access bathrooms. We visited the lake this past July 4th 2014, and Mitchell's had the friendliest service and best lake view that we found. At the restaurant, we ordered a large pizza pie and a few glasses of wine. We had a beautiful view of the lake to watch the sunset. Of the other marinas and restaurants we visited around the lake, Mitchell's ended up being our favorite. Luckily, our house was a mile's walk but regretfully, we only ate there once. We were initially intimidated by the RV park that sits at the entrance to the Marina However, after our first trip ever to SML, we plan to have Mitchell's be our "go-to" hang out spot for all future visits to SML. Mitchell's Marina has live music, places to feed the fish and beautifully landscaped gardens you can walk through as you walk to the docks. You can hang out on nearby picnic tables or sit on a bench and watch the boats go by. Lastly, we rented a pontoon boat from Mitchell's. Having no experience driving a boat, the staff spent time walking through everything with us, including showing us how to tie the boat to the dock. If you visit SML, you have to rent a boat. Mitchell's will make it painless! read more

It breaks my heart to give this place a 1 star as it used to be one of my favorites around the lake... until they changed management. The former owners now have a place in moneta called Smokehouse, and that is where we go - because their food is freaking awesome. Mitchell's... well... they're gonna need to do a lot to get back to where expectations are. The only thing that saves this place is the view - and it's an amazing view of the lake. the new couple that manages the place seem nice enough, but they've cut the corner so sharp with trying to save money on food, i can hardly consider this place worthy of the reputation it had earned the past few years. which is sad, because the previous managers actually catered our wedding! and it was SO good that we still have guests commenting on how awesome the food was. Our last visit there was a wonderfully pleasant night. sunny, warm enough to eat outside. The beer selection forced me to order a corona - coming from durham, the beer selection is atrocious. I can deal with that. However when our main meals came out, I wasn't sure what to do. I actually felt really uncomfortable looking at it because I knew this wasn't what I should be eating. Where was my REAL grilled chicken? The rotisserie half chicken with amazing sides that I always got? I tried to eat the emaciated pressed chicken breasts, but i got about 3 bites in and called it quits. I can't think of the last time i've refused to eat something. but the skinny pressed chickens covered in mrs. dash's seasoning (for $12!!!) was enough to make my head and stomach spin. I felt pretty bad, until I looked over at Jon and noticed that he was still chewing his first bite of brisket. Maybe we've been spoiled on Vicki's food and the bbq spots of durham? i don't know, i didn't care. we paid our check and went to kroger to make our own dinner. we actually packed up what was left of our meal - which was everything but the corona to give to our dogs. when we were done with our kroger shop and came back ot the cars - we actually decided to throw out the food as we were pretty sure our dogs wouldn't touch it either. i can't see us going back, but if you find yourself here, i've heard the pizza is their "specialty." good luck on your visit. and i really hope the new couple managing this place takes a hard look att the amazing opportunity they have where they are. read more

I don't generally write reviews, but these folks went above and beyond to make me a repeat customer. We rented 2 paddle boards for the week. As we were gathering stuff to return, we realized one of the paddle boards had floated away overnight as the lake level rose. SML Rentals promptly posted a notice to the local Facebook community. They called me a couple of hours later to let us know the board was found. We had already left town and they graciously went to retrieve it and refunded our money had the board not been recovered. read more

We love this place. It takes about 6 minutes by boat and about 30 min by car so we usually go by boat. There are lots of activities throughout the year. There is Mitchell's Restaurant, the marina and nearby camping. We enjoy the fireworks by boat or sitting on the lawn. If you visit Smith Mt Lake, you will most likely end up at the marina. read more

They were racist towards us charged us 200 dollars for damage that was already there we had pictures as proof and she proceeded to argue with us we paid and left I do not recommend this place at all big disappointment we were here as vacation but definitely will not be back read more

Great place to rent a boat! The owner is very friendly and helpful! We pointed out that we damage the propeller a little bit by probably hitting a Sand dune and he thought it was just fine and didn't charge us! We will be back! read more

Jeff and Debbie are two of the nicest people I have ever met! We have used them for renting boats for the past two years and they have been nothing but professional and extremely helpful! Both years we have been at the lake for the 4th of July week and their fireworks are off the charts! They have very reasonable rates for their boats, but their customer service is what sets them apart. We've also enjoyed having some food and beverages at their restaurant/bar and had a great experience with that too. I would highly recommend using them for your boat rental needs!!! I have been there several times this year and enjoyed each visit. The staff is friendly and they have live music on the weekends. The pizza is very good, especially for a dockside marina. Certainly, you should expect the food to resemble bar food and the marina can't be considered fine dining so go for a family friendly atmosphere, cold beer, and easy food after a long day on the lake. read more

Update November 2013: Same terrible restaurant operators for the 2013 season. They rebranded as pizza specialist this year. I've only had one pizza there and is was just OK, not memorably good or memorably bad. Looks like hiring marginal bands to play too loud and attract the late night beer guzzling crowd that run up big bar tabs has provided enough revenue to keep them in business. It is a real pity that the folks running the restaurant haven't realized that this just isn't their calling. It is painful to watch them continue to be the one blemish on the overall Mitchells Point experience. In response to Stacy W's review... There are several different businesses operating out of Mitchell's Point Marina. Stacy's review is clearly about the restaurant only. Too bad she listed it as "Mitchell's Point Marina" instead of "Mitchell's Point Marina Restaurant", as it is just the restaurant that has taken a nosedive this year (summer of 2012). Sadly, I agree with pretty much everything Stacy said about the restaurant. The food is somewhere between uninspired and gross... depending on what you order. However, the boat rentals, gas dock, boat slip rentals, and campground are all still top notch, IMHO. My family spends a LOT of time at Mitchell's Point and hope that they get some real restaurant operators in for next season, as that is the only thing the place is lacking. On a good note, with the restaurant so bad this year, the parking shortage that the Marina experienced in prior years is much less of an issue now. :) I gave 4 start to the overall Mitchell's Point Marina. Ate here for the first time today! Had Fried Calamari to start with, cooked just right served with marinara, yummy! My husband and I split a club sandwich and fries. We were stuffed! The club was stuffed full of meat, I could barely get it in my mouth, the fries were cooked to perfection. We ate outside with the beautiful view of the lake! A very nice couple without any restaurant experience took over this formerly fantastic restaurant in 2012. It is just a shadow of its former glory. The pizza is good, and the hamburgers are decent. Beer "selection" is a joke, but at least they have more than just Bud Light. If you are hungry and want a great view, this is a feasible alternative. I must say that our second visit was MUCH better than our first one. read more

My parents live on the lake and every visit (we live in Charlotte) includes at least one trip to Mitchell's for lunch. The hot dogs with chili are great, fries are done just right and the wait staff always has a smile and warm greeting like we are old friends. We think the atmosphere and quality have improved under new management. This is also a fun place for kids as they can play the ring toss game while waiting for the food to arrive. read more

Great place to rent a boat, grab a bite to eat, or lease a camper/ boat slip. Employees are always helpful and respectful, boats are clean, and if you ever run into an issue the owners will make it right no matter what. The restaurant has come a long was in recent years after having been taken over by a couple who was new to the restaurant business. They always have at least 30+ different beers on hand, the food is phenomenal, the pizza especially, but I don't think I could order anything on the menu and be dissatisfied. A few of my favorites from the restaurant are the calamari, fish n' chips, pizza as I said, wings, fish sandwich, and the Rueben is probably one of my all time favorites. Mitchell's also has a great view of the lake and a covered outdoor dining area, so it is wonderful to have a diner and a few beers with family and watch the sunset. The restaurant also offers delicious homemade pies and cakes for desert. But if you're more in the mood for ice cream the Marina has a wide variety of single serve Hershey's Ice creams. If you have kids there's also a place to feed the fish while you're enjoying the sunset and ice cream. Overall this is one of the best and friendliest marinas on the lake. If you're on vacation looking to rent a boat or grab a bite to eat I couldn't recommend a better place. Another selling point of this marina is it's location. It's located in Craddock creek close to the damn (which is also something to check out if you're on vacation). This area has clearer and cleaner water as well as less boat traffic than areas near the bridge. read more

The 1-star post surprises me - this place is great for what it is, which is casual lake-side eating, perfect for taking a break when you're out on the water. Great outdoor seating area to sit down and have a beer and order typical bar food, which is actually pretty darn good. My only real complaint is all the hokie paraphernalia, which you come to expect in this part of the state. And the owners/staff were good sports going back and forth with me (in my UVa hat). read more
