Loved discovering "When the Wind Blows," a book about offshore wind turbines, in Mitchell's Children's Room. - A woman wearing a face mask, tank top, and shorts stands outside Mitchell's Book in Nantucket, holding a book. A bicycle with a basket of flowers is nearby.

Incredibly friendly service and knowledgeable, engaged staff! Mitchell's is at the heart of all things literary and word-related on the Island of Nantucket. Their children's buyer, Christina Blank, is welcoming, fun, and creative. Their children's sectio is cozy and reading with your child is encouraged. The bestselling crime and romance author books by Island-writers Charles Graeber & Elin Hildebrand, respectively, are on display. Mitchell's location in the very heart of downtown Nantucket make this a go-to destination for readers of all ages. Ride your bike there, take a break and grab yourself a book for the beach or for the road.

Great selection of postcards. They were 50 cents each. Lots of books. Really funny cards. Good place to stop for a book!

    Don't bother.

Local bookstores can be hard to find these days. And when I do find them, I tend to want to patronize them. Not so much Mitchell's on Nantucket. I've been in here a few times and honestly, I don't think anyone has ever greeted me or offered to assist me. I'm a voracious reader and had brought my most recent list of books I wanted to buy with me to Nantucket. I guess the optimist in me keeps hoping the previous experiences with dismal service were aberrations. I'll cut to the chase: they're not aberrations. I got to the store fairly soon after it opened. There was only the saleswoman and one other person there at the time. The two of them were in what seemed like some kind of personal discussion about something the woman wanted to sell or consign to the salesperson. I walked around the store for about 10 minutes or so without the salesperson acknowledging me or asking me if I needed help. I then proceeded upstairs, looked around for another 10 or so minutes. I did take advantage of using the very nice and very clean and very much appreciated loo. I came back downstairs. These two women were still yakking away. I apparently was invisible. . So you know what? I decided that enough is enough with this place. This bookstore didn't get my business that day nor will they in the future. Bye bye and good luck. One star for the non-existent service with another one added for the clean and available to the public bathroom.

Cute little place! Definitely has a lot of merchandise, but it's organized and appealing. We bought a few books!

Shop is very chock-a-block; staff is more rude than helpful. Nantucket section & occasional author events are the best parts.

Isaiah Thomas Books is easy to find on Route 28. It's a striking millennial pink Victorian house…read morebeside the Cahoon Museum. On the outside, it looks small, but somehow they cram books on every single subject within the little space. If you're looking for specialties and rare books, this is the place to go. If you're into cookbooks specializing in cranberries, this is the destination. There are tons of rarities for reasonable prices; the owners are helpful and will guide you through the labyrinthine store. Plenty of gardening books, histories of Cape Cod and New England, marine biology stashed next to Mormonism and geology, you name it, they probably have it. It takes some looking- and the looking is worth your time. There are pulp fiction books, old cassette tapes and LPs, Cape Cod memorabilia. It's called "haunted" but maybe because it's kind of a mess. Books are piled high, they fall, ghosts get blamed. It is a pleasant haunt.

I have been looking for a copy of "The House on Nauset Marsh" and every local bookstore I called…read moredidn't have it and would have to special order it...except this place. I called and the owner said he'd set it aside for me. What a neat store! It is packed to the gills w/ so many rare and used books. They have an awesome selection of Cape Cod books...all regions. The owner is very knowledgeable and kind. I definitely want to go back the next time I'm in the area to spend a good chunk of time browsing and seeing what treasures I can discover.
