I have been here twice in the last week. Love it. Mr. Mitchell and his main store manager have been very patient with me, a newbie! I've had all sort of questions on scope ranges, bullet sizes, the differences in weights on lightweight vs. standard weight Thompson's, etc. There's a good little selection of rifles, carbines, and handguns on hand. Also, targets. It's a real treat to have this store in Great Falls, though it is kinda hidden away in a small strip center on Smelter Avenue. Just find Smelter, easy once you've pinpointed the refinery and are heading west from there. "Break right" on Smelter as you come down a couple of blocks from the Superwalmart/refinery area, heading west. (Google and/or gpses are "friends" for this!) Mitchell Supply is a great store for most anything firearms related. They have new and used firearms. If you have a question they will do there best to answer it. There can often be great buys on used guns that come through the store. The new gun selection in the store may not be the largest but they have a website that is very easy to use to order online. read more

Like a previous reviewer stated, if you go here and you're not a moron, you'll have a great experience. I've done business here quite a few times over quite a few years. Yes, ammo and gun accessories are sometimes more expensive here than at Walmart or Scheels--it's not a Big Box store, hence it will be more expensive on some items. So those comments obviously came from a moron. It is a locally owned shop and the service at Mitchell Supply is 10 fold better than you'll generally get at Scheels or Walmart. If you're a Walmart shopper--go to Walmart. I, for one, shop at locally owed businesses and don't want to have to listen to your idiotic drivel when I am shopping. I also read one of the reviews that said this shop is geared towards "assault rifles". Just another moronic statement. The person that made that statement is obviously uninformed where guns are concerned and should probably take a class or two from a qualified firearms instructor--which can also be accomplished at Mitchell Supply. The shop is geared toward modern sporting rifles, such as the ArmaLite Rifle 15 (AR-15) but also sells other guns. The term "assault rifle" is applied to rifles that can accomplish selective fire between semi-automatic (one shot per trigger squeeze) AND fully automatic SELECTION (squeeze and hold the trigger to empty the magazine AUTOMATICALLY). That being said, challenge yourself to go to Mitchell Supply and buy a fully-automatic rifle. Once you've done that, you'll find the shop can probably help you out after you have processed all of your legal paperwork with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) and paid the government's imposed fees for the entire affair in accordance with the National Firearms Act (NFA). Yes, you CAN purchase a fully-automatic rifle in the United States once the government has said it's okay--but that is NOT the target market of this shop. Before you buy any gun from any store, first inform yourself or hire someone to inform you. Do some research and confirm the research. (Maybe take a class on how to do viable research.) Otherwise, when you make stupid statements, whether on Yelp or other online venue where we can all read your reviews FOREVER, or when we can overhear you making boastful and equally stupid statements in real-time at Walmart or Scheels or even Mitchell Supply--expect to be challenged by someone that actually has done the research, has actual real world experience within this area of expertise, and is actually sick and tired of hearing the completely obtuse ramblings of utter morons that learn everything they know (about seemingly everything, not just guns) from Hollywood insiders and leftist television news networks which have ALSO FAILED in the research department at ALL aspects of subject matter. I can guarantee that any locally owned business will appreciate your business. I can also guarantee that no one at Walmart or Scheels has the same level of knowledge in their individual departments as you'll find at most locally owned specialty shops and people who purchase similar items at Walmart and Scheels have decided that big box stores are the way to go, until it's too late to recognize that eventually there's no competition. Once that day arrives, business people call that a monopoly and business people also know monopolies bring exorbitant prices. Good luck, socialists pig! Few years back, when there was a nation wide panic buy of every kind of semi-auto rifle, all the stores were jacking up their prices to take advantage of the situation and people. Not Mitchells. I asked him why, and he said they were not going to rip off people for a short term gain. This is just one example of how they operate. 100% focused on customer service. Jim is a great guy to work with, and as long as you aren't a jerk or a moron you'll have a great buying experience. The shop is targeted (haha) towards the AR-15 market, but he also has a decent collection of of used rifles, and accessories for other modern rifles/handguns. Prices can sometimes be higher than a chain store (as all mom & pop stores are) but I'd rather support something local than Walmart anyway. read more

First of all, the ammo was over priced and limited. They had a box of 120 green tipped American Eagle 5.56 bullets for 90 dollars that I could buy at Walmart for 60. Also the price of a Magpul stock was close to 100 dollars, and at Sheels they're 40. Although I guess with this place you're paying for the atmosphere. There was so much anti Obama propaganda on the walls and hate in the air, it made me feel very uncomfortable. I completely understand why the lady who wrote her review before mine felt so uncomfortable here. read more

I didn't buy anything here, but used them as an FFL to ship some firearms to Alaska for my drive through Canada. I came in here last summer, and have to give them a good rating for their service. They're really easy to work with, and did exactly what I asked. I left some ammo at their store that I couldn't take with me, and they said they would hold onto it for me. When we drove back through from Alaska we got in sort of late, and the store was closed by then. The employee working that night said he would open the store back up to give me my ammo back which was a nice gesture. Great people in this place! If I ever come through Great Falls again, I'll definitely stop by! read more

I've used them for their FFL mainly but have bought many other items Holsters clips ammo etc... Their knowledge is first rate and they're always available for advise or will steer you in the direction you need to go. Its my Go to place. Great atmosphere if your a Conservative not a place to claim gay pride or flower power. read more

Decent gun shop. Selection is geared to assault rifle owners and is either great (if you like that kind of stuff) or terrible. Always have used guns and the prices are decent. Sometimes they are actual normal guns too. Ammo selection is kind of a joke and sometimes extremely overpriced. (Brown bear 7.62x54r is generally about 10-12 bucks and it was 16 here) and if your not shooting an AR an AK a popular pistol or an extremely popular "sniper rifle" they won't have what you need. The atmosphere in the store is extremely hit or miss. Sometimes you can chat for a long time sometimes you feel like you shouldn't have come in at all. Revolver, rifle, and hunters need not attempt a visit but it is the best place for "tactical" everything. So to sum up. If your a jock with an assault rifle and you don't need a normal gun you'll love it here. If you shoot like a normal person and need rifle cartridges or revolver ammunition such as .357 magnum or 7.62x54r don't bother. read more

If you have any questions on how to build your own rifle or pistol, this is where you'd want to go. All of the workers there are very knowledgeable and great for advice plus, if they don't know the correct answer on a technical question, they won't waste your time and will look it up. The selection of new and used on the store premises is very good for a town like Great Falls and if you want/need something different, then they can get it to you within 3-5 days(or tell you where to go). Geared mainly towards the AR/AK club with the tools and equipment necessary to build the guns on site, they can also assist with a plethora of different types of firearms. Willing to go the extra mile on customer satisfaction rather than the sale, this gun store is what finishes making Great Falls a home for me. read more
