I realize this is long: all you really need to know is that Big Sky Gold is a GEM. If you are…read morelooking for a unique piece, do yourself a favor right now and start browsing through the offerings on Claire Baiz's blog. Need more reasons to reach out? She's ethical and eco-friendly (makes use of lots of beautiful estate jewelry), a registered wholesaler (explains the pricing advantages you need to see to believe), and very sophisticated in terms of style (don't take it from me, she has been known to source stones for the best of the retail jewelers, and I do not mean Zales) Claire is an absolute joy to work with. She is welcoming and highly perceptive in person, and peppers her witty emails with jokes and frank advice (no surprise she moonlights as a novelist/essayist). In fact, dealing with her was such a pleasure, I'm pretty sure she's won our business for life. I caught my fiance emailing her a week or two ago about getting a pair of matching earrings (my ears aren't pierced, go figure!) New Yorkers -- she's a huge fan, and works out of the city for a few months every year! For my story, read on: A rather funny series of events left me wearing a $15.99 CZ engagement ring from overstock.com that was so outlandishly oversized that I would bruise the adjacent fingers if I ever tried to lift anything. But we wanted to do the real thing at some point, and an exploratory email was answered promptly with a surprising "you're in Manhattan, too?" and before long, I found myself face to face with Big Sky Gold's owner and founder, Claire Baiz, over lunch in downtown NYC. I had come across her blog online in the midst of doing preliminary research on yogo sapphires, exclusive to Montana and a specialty of Big Sky Gold's. I didn't really want a diamond ring, and I loved that the cornflower-colored gems came from out West. But I don't know much about yogos, or diamonds for that matter, and was thrilled to be able to talk to an expert on the sapphires... over here on the East Coast. Claire is vegan and gluten-free (and a walking advertisement for the benefits of the lifestyle) so we met up at Hale & Hearty. First she looked at my finger... and the fake. The setting was much too high, she told me, as she spread out informational materials and the "Sears Roebuck" catalog of settings (designed for wholesalers). I began gushing about yogos and my seething jealousy of everyone who lives within sight of the Rocky Mountains. She asked about my lifestyle, my family, my interests. Then we got to talking about budget. After two meetings and around 10 emails, we parted with her reassurance: "I have something in mind for you. I'll email you the details when I get back to Great Falls." Within days the ring of my dreams was assembled (in theory) from two yogos (taken from a pair of earrings) and an ideal cut diamond in a platinum setting, for a price you would not believe. We absolutely could not have found such a perfect ring (not to mention in such a short amount of time) without Claire. It's on my hand now and I (and who would have guessed, my fiance too) could not be happier or prouder? (Can we be proud? We feel proud...) From me and my fiance: a VERY big thank you, Claire!

Jensen Jewelers, Great Falls, MT In November of 2021 my…read morehusband purchased a pair of stud pearl earrings as a Christmas present from Jensen Jewelers in the mall. 2021 was the winter we were all wearing masks and several times while taking my mask off one of my post earrings also came out. I asked for a pair of pearl earrings with a lock device so this wouldn't happen. We were told at the time of purchase that they may not arrive prior to Christmas and I really can't remember if they did or not but they did arrive at some point The pearl earrings I received had a pink tint to them and were also almost too large compared to my 7mm pearls. I felt a little too shameless wearing them and didn't really care for the pink tint but I kept them...my husband had bought them for me and paid $698.60 for them...I couldn't bring myself to return them. After having them for a short time I was driving somewhere and kept feeling something like a pebble under my foot while driving. When I arrived to my destination I searched for the pebble and to my astonishment it was one of the pearls that had fallen off the post. I was very relieved to find that I still had both parts and returned to Jensen Jewelers to have them repaired. I had never had a problem with any of my post earrings before and at the time of purchase thought paying for a warranty was frivolous so I ended up paying $75 to have them repair. When I picked them up from the repair they were a different set of pearls. They were the same large size but I now had white pearls. I was a happy girl. After a time of wearing them one day I was taking them out and again the post and pearl separated so again I was at Jensen Jewelry to get them fixed. Another $75.00. My husband picked them up and when the salesperson demonstrated the locking device the post fell out, yet again. The salesperson said she would fix them and to come back the next day which he did. When I put them in it was evident immediately that these were a different size of pearl although they were still white. I called and spoke to the salesperson and she immediately started speaking over me justifying the earrings. We finally came to the agreement that I would bring them up to show her. We had a lengthy conversation when I arrived and that's when I found out all the mistakes we had made at the initial purchase. I was asked if I had a picture of the original purchase. Of course I didn't..who would? It all came down to the green original purchase receipt that only says "Special Order-14kw 8mm pearl studs with protecktor(that is how it is spelled) backs" after she spoke to the people above her about how to handle the situation. The lessons I learned through this is when purchasing a gem make sure the original receipt shows the size of the gem and take a picture of them while being measured inside the ruler like device they use. Make sure you have the quality of the gem stated (stone's color, its clarity, its cut and its carat weighting). Pearls also have there own GIA 7 Pearl Value Factors and knowing where they were harvested is important. Have any and all relevant information written down on your receipt.
