You really need to dine here if you're in the old city. It is very small; so make a reservation. It is a family owned restaurant with the dining room on the middle floor of their house. All the food is home cooked by the owner, who is an artist. She has decorated the room with her art and even made the furniture. The food is amazing! After spending a couple days here, I was overwhelmed with the constant hustle and bustle of the old city. This was certainly a much needed breath of fresh air. I came in the early afternoon and Nazan made me a fantastic eggs on toast with mushrooms, onions, and other spices which was FANTASTIC! So nice! After speaking with her, it turns out she gets her produce and meats from the local markets, she cares deeply for the food she makes. Hailing from New York where various cuisines meet their best as one can imagine, so expectations are at a higher stake when traveling. :) A week ago I went to Mitara cafe during my visit in Istanbul for dinner and had the most delicious food. I ordered the Artichoke, Beet (Salad), Green Beans, Eggplant and Olive Salad. All dishes were authentic in flavors and were very well harmonized. One can taste that the dishes were diligently prepared with heart and soul. It literally was the best food experience in Istanbul on this trip. Prices are pretty decent for the quality of of food that is served. Small dishes (starters) are 22 -33tl. My second visit I went earlier in the day sat inside the cafe and had only tea. The ambiance with hand picked art work from antics to contemporary authentic art and tools displayed makes one feel the magical environment of old / ancient İstanbul. The surrounding was just breath taking. I love Turkish tea btw. Even the tea had a marvelous flavor not like the conventional taste. Like nothing else is conventional at Mitara. I truly enjoyed being in Istanbul and Mitara is part of it! A must visit place when in Istanbul. read more

What a delightful artisan style restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious. The ambiance and the decorations of the restaurant all say quality, taste, art, originality. We had the most wonderful dining experience at Miyazaki's Cafe & Art. It was like eating at a good friends house. Beautiful surroundings and outstanding vegetarian food. You need to like cats and dogs though. She had a limited menu, but, what we had was delicious. I had a dish with pumpkin and plums and my husband had cabbage with chick peas. She treated us with some cheese and bread to begin with. The cheese was reminiscent of blue cheese. Very delicious. She was a one person show. There was no one else there to help. Beautiful cafe. Calm and welcoming with a fire to warm us. We had delicious soup, one with lentils and chickpea and the other yogurt and meatballs. The soup was clearly made with care and high quality ingredients. Nazan is well travelled and well spoken. We very much enjoyed her company. Do say hello to Sultan, the resident cat. read more
