The issue was that we wanted to order one 7-course tasting menu and one 5-course a la carte menu to maximize the number of different things that we could try. The staff promptly told us that couldn't be done, because both menus had a "minimum 2 per table" policy. That policy isn't stated anywhere on their printed or online menu, and it makes me wonder what they do if they ever get a table of 1 (or 3). When we pressed them on the issue they said the reason was because they wouldn't be able to time things properly so that the dishes came out together. We told them that was fine, that they could bring out the dishes however they wanted as we were just going to share everything anyways, and that we just wanted to enjoy our anniversary dinner and try as many different things as possible. Still they refused, and insisted on telling us what we could and could not order. Personally I consider that a completely unacceptable level of service. Unless the restaurant is paying us to eat there, the restaurant has no business telling us what we can and can't order (hint: the restaurant was not paying us to eat there; quite the opposite, in fact). Doubly so when we're there for a special occasion and the restaurant is well aware of the fact. So for their perplexingly poor customer service, I'm deducting a point from their score.
