We woke up to our chandelier crashing down from the ceiling, not the way to start your day. We have out of state family coming soon and we needed help, fast. We called Mister Sparkey, with the hope to get an appointment before the weekend. To our surprise, they scheduled us for the same day between 10AM and 2PM. Shortly after, I got a text from Electrician Ron Riggenback stating that he was 10 min away and could come now (it was 9AM). He came, assessed the situation and got to work. He replaced the faulty plastic housing box, that had broken and released the chandelier and he checked and fixed another loosened chandelier, thus averting further damage. He installed a much needed motion sensor light, outside, as well. He did the math and informed us that we could save money if we joined their membership program, which we happily did join. He was polite, professional and cleaned up after himself. The pricing was fair and Ron did quality work. He even caulked around the fixtures to make sure there were no gaps and everything looked great. If we ever need another electrician, we will use them again and request Ron, if possible. read more

Called to take a look at a kitchen fixture light that was flickering and non-responsive. Was assured that it was the fixture that was the problem as the outlet was fine and sold me on 4 new wafer style lights after a quote. There was no assessment of the problem or what it actually was. The staff came, installed the lights and then, after installation, they wouldn't turn on. I was then informed that there was actually a line break the entire time and I would have to add on another $900 (!) for a single new wire line to the new lights or they would be non-functional - that price almost exceeding the cost of the lights and installation itself. I feel the estimate was outrageous and bordering extortion. Now I have spent 1k for non functional kitchen lights. People should definitely watch out for this company, just posting my experience here. Had a great experience with the technician who performed the work of replacing 1 interior GFCI outlet in a very difficult-to-reach spot along with 3 exterior outlets that had failed. The pricing is my real complaint - we paid $1100 to have these 4 outlets replaced. Frankly, this is work I could have done myself, but I wanted the peace of mind of having it done professionally. I placed my call to Home Depot at 9 AM and by noon someone from Mister Sparky was at my front door. The electrician (Paul) surveyed the situation and gave me a quote. He gave me a fair price and I said, "Yes." He began right away. After he completed the task, he did a Safety Inspection of my entire home. He was courteous, efficient and knowledgeable. I then received a phone call from the manager the next day saying the gentleman misunderstood my needs (no way - we had a full blown conversation about the issue). So manager makes a scheduled appointment 2 days later - sure, Im willing to give you a second chance - good deal I thought we back on track. Was given a large window of 2-6 and we rearranged our plans so we could be home - 4:10pm the day of the appointment I get a text saying the tech had an emergency and wouldn't be able to make it. Then I never received my estimate until I keep on emailing them finally I gave up decided to order it and save 7k to have everything in place and hire a local reputable electrician for three hours to connect the unit done ! We have hired Mr. Sparky 3 times over the years and they have always been polite and professional every time. They performed a detailed safety inspection each time, including the fuse box set up, and provided quotes for future purposes but did not try to pressure us to include these quotes, which all made sense, right away. There was a trip charge, but this ended up being part of the cost of work, if performed. So, a trip charge was $59 but the cost of installing a ceiling fan, which included inspecting the wires and switches, was $129 all inclusive. May sound like a lot to you younger folks but for us it was a great deal! And the last ceiling fan we had installed, they had to push our service date back one day and gave us an additional $30 off the install, at their suggestion! We set an appt online at their website in order to use a coupon they posted, but I never heard from them as their response to the appt setting indicated. When I called them, I was told the appt did not go through so had not been added to their schedule. Not only did they waste my time trying to set an appt, call them to confirm the appt, but my fuel & 45 min travel time to the building where the work us to be done. We needed an electrician to fix an outlet and blown fuse box, well they came out and told us they couldn't do any work due to the electrical work being "illegal" (we just moved in a few months prior). This was 2 days before Christmas so we didn't have time to get a second opinion and went forward. Well... fast forward to having the St.petersburg inspector come out and he tells us "you grossly over paid for this work" he estimated we over paid by 2k. At the time we thought we were getting good service so we recommended them to my sister who recently bought a house. I got an estimate from 5 different electricians to install a transfer switch for a portable generator. Mr. Sparky actually have me 5 estimates that ranged from insane to bend over. The estimates varied from the install of the transfer switch with a power surge protector costing $3300 to a cheap method of a interlock switch without a surge protector for $1300. The other 4 estimates, all transfer switch installs without the unnecessary surge protector ranged from $200 to $475. Let me make clear that ALL estimates came from state licensed electrician companies within the Hudson, New Port Richey area. What a massive difference. Do your homework people, Mr. Sparky is out for all your $$$$$$! Nothing they do can warrant a $3000 difference for the same job! read more

Called Mr Sparkey for meter socket replacement. Appointment was confirmed for between 9:30-11:45 and was charged $189.00 for a call out. Technician arrived in a pick-up truck @ 4:40 with no equiptment and Quoted $2918.00 for the replacement costs. Have since received quotes from other licensed electricians for $700.00 and $810.00 which is the normal cost for this replacement. Beware of Mister Sparkey! read more

I was not going to comment until I saw Mike Rowe pitching for this outfit!! 1) Interior outlet shorted and left burn marks on drywall. 2) The apprentice fixed an interior outlet and put on the wrong color faceplate. 3) The apprentice installed an outdoor receptacle and sealed with a caulking job that was smeared so much a kindergartener could have done better. 4)They tried to sell me a maintenance agreement that was outrageous even after all of the above. Don't do it. I requested a quote on replacement of two existing ceiling fans and one new install. Electric is available and serviceable at all locations. Circuit breakers are operational at all locations. I showed the tech the job. I showed the tech where the breaker panel was. I confirmed he understood this simple exercise. He said he would have a quote for me in a couple of minutes and he remained in my garage to develop the quote....or so I thought. I waited 10 minutes and went to check on the tech and the quote. In the garage I witnessed that the tech had dismantled the front of my service panel and was doing an inspection which had not been discussed or agreed upon. The tech wanted to point out a potential area of failure and assured me that while my "home was not about to burn down" there was a faulty area that he assured me would cause the panel to fail shortly. At that point I told the tech to replace the panel and be gone. He wanted to "explain" that he was not trying to sell me something I didn't need". I repeated instructions for him to replace the front of the fully functional panel and be gone adding that I had not asked for or agreed to anything but the aforementioned quote. When he replaced the front of the panel he said he was sorry there was a misunderstanding but that he had to do this undiscussed work to determine if the system was safe before he could work on it. And of course I feel certain that based on his first comment he was about to launch into another repair. Must think I am a senile senior citizen. Badly played and misjudged. I can only imagine his approach if it were just my elderly wife. The mission was ceiling fans in an exceptionally well kept, maintained and upgraded home. That, by the way was recently inspected from stem to stern by a professional electrical engineer with over three decades of seasoning. Finally, on his way out and trying to explain, I simply agreed with whatever he was saying. I told him he was right because that appeared to be his objective--being right. He continued on and I asked him if he thought he "could be more right"? My request was so simple. I have personally installed or replaced fans in 9 different homes we have owned in 4 different states. A thought at age 66 I would stay off the ladder and pass the baton to the "younger trained professionals". Lot of elements to training and technical expertise is just one. I will conclude by saying you were indeed quick to get here with lots of electronic queues. And good job doing an exit-interview. Sadly, you were prompted just as quickly to leave, un-hired resulting in a lose-lose experience. I had the oil in my well functioning auto replaced recently. They did not remove the oil pan or valve cover. They performed the job as agreed. They got a 5 Star Yelp review. This review will next appear on YELP. read more

Needed Saturday work because of my work/travel schedule. Called Mr. Sparky after checking Angie's List. I called to make an appointment for the weekend... the woman who answered the phone was very polite and helpful. She went over the basics of their service and also explained the "low cost" $60 trip fee as if using the phase "low cost" before the dollar amount made this any more palatable like a.k.a. resort fees. I still smile when i think of her saying it... clearly a canned line... anyway...The tech was very professional, friendly,courteous and prompt... showed up on time as advertised. No issues there or the work done... Needed service on 2 ceiling light ballast and a ceiling fan installed. Quoted me a price of approximately $1000 for the work. I was kind of stuck as we had already agreed to trip charge and my work schedule so I agreed. Work took approximately an hour and a half to complete of which we had purchased the ceiling fan before hand. Part $ were minimal for the ballast job of this total amount. This makes the hourly rate even being generous... $400-500 an hour which is preposterous. I called around for different estimates afterward and the price should have been about a quarter of the total for this work. My doctor could have stopped by to complete this job and his hourly rate would have been cheaper. The company makes a big deal in their rebuttals to pricing complaints of having drug tested and licensed techs... Frankly, I expect nothing less and have not had a problem with drug crazed anyone in all my years here. It hardly justifies the outrageous costs. I fully agreed to the work beforehand and knew the cost shockingly enuft. I needed the work done and sacrificed price for a convenience. Let me be clear, I don't believe I was taken advantage of because of my situation.... looking at the reviews I believe this to just be their regular pricing. Lesson learned... expensive at that.
