Sad to see so little reviews (with mine being only the second review on Yelp)! This place is so good, it's a shame not more people know about this.
Decided to stay in on a Saturday instead of going sightseeing, was feeling rather homesick, so I was craving noodle soups. The closest pho place to my hotel had so-so reviews (plus from the pictures, it was unclear if it was the same pho place I saw in passing...), and let's be honest, did I really want to put clothes on and walk outside? Probably not.
I found Mister Minh on UberEATS. I ordered beef pho with cooked beef (you can get it with raw beef if you prefer, which I thought was nice), pearl balls, yummy wings, and a rice dish with mixed veggies and tofu.
Beef pho:
- Upon first look, it didn't look very appetizing. The pho noodles were thicker than I have had in the past, so I wasn't sure how they would taste. As soon as I opened the broth container... wow, the aromatics filled the room! It smelled so amazing. I heated up the broth on the stove, adding some veggies from my fridge and tossed in the bean sprouts. Man, oh man. Together with the noodles, it was probably the best pho I've ever had! The noodles were so chewy, so soft! Broth was a bit on the sweeter side, but you can really tell it's a well-loved broth.
Pearl balls:
- Lol, it's not what you think. It's actually a meatball coated with sticky rice. I grew up eating this (in Taiwan) and this is the first time I've ever seen it as an option at any restaurants. So of course I had to order it. It was really good! Not a fan of watercress (and the description didn't say it would have watercress), so that was the only downside.
Yummy wings:
- Absolutely delicious. Nice and crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. I haven't tried it with the "sexy sauce" that came with it, but it looks like it would probably be really good.
Rice dish with mixed veggies and tofu:
- Eh, the only blemish of the order. I mainly ordered it so that I could say I had vegetables this week. Unfortunately, the chef was too heavy-handed with the ginger... it's all you can taste. Too pungent and gingery for my taste.
Overall, really the best meal I've had in Melbourne. It warmed my soul and filled my belly. I think I've found my go-to pho place the next time I'm back in town! read more
