First off the espresso was spot-on--perfectly pulled! I tried the Spanner Crab Omelette, which was delicious, and the French Toast was also really good. The Lobster & Prawn Benedict was nice, but the real stars of the meal were the Truffle Toastie and the Maple Cruller. The toastie had that perfect balance of crispy and melty, and the cruller was so good I couldn't resist bringing some back to Los Angeles with me! If you're in Melbourne Rustica is definitely worth a visit.

You will see the counter stacked high with cakes, pastries and salads all made here too. There is enough space inside for a couple of small groups though we chose to sit in the back courtyard which is under cover and slightly heated. We were all given nice blankets for our laps too - always a nice touch. There is a full brunch menu with some great options if none of the freshly baked pastries are what you feel like eating. We went for the poached eggs with salad (looked great), the southern style chicken burger with fries (great burger) and a sweet orange and ricotta hot cakes with lemon curd butter, maple syrup and sweet dukkah. This was tasty and not overly sweet which is excellent. Coffee was strong and tasty, I think it was Supreme. We would definitely go back and I can see why it's such a local favorite.

I've been here a few times now and each time struggled to choose something off the menu as there are too many enticing options. I probably would have given it a 4 star rating but the amazing special I ate today has totally tipped me over the line. Saturday we ate the ricotta cake special. This was a delicately light with a creme brûlée light golden crust. It was served with fresh figs and mandarins with an orange curd and sprinkled with mint and cacao nibs. So many of my favourite things all on one plate. There are a lot of decadent brunch options including the brisket sand which and pork belly blt but if you're going to indulge you won't be disappointed. Even the avocado and goats cheese offering is somewhat different with a sprinkling of buckwheat that is rather tasty. Their coffee is really good and the baristas take pride in what they do. Overall I really like this spot and super happy it's in my hood.

It is an innovative and new menu put together by a young chef from Paris. The Bircher muesli is soaked overnight with soya and coconut milk. For the sweet tooth, try the red velvet hotcake; coated with roasted coconut flakes, fresh berries, chocolate mouse and raspberry ice cream. I had the more healthy Grain Garden Salad today. The bowl was lined with homemade beetroot and chick pea hummus, with perfectly char grilled asparagus and broccoli and a lovely miso dressing. Filling and healthy. Popular with vegans. My partner had the Rueben sandwich which reminded her of Montreal. A thick filling of corned beef, cheese, sauerkraut, mustard, mayo, etc. It comes with a side of real French fries. Most meals are between $17 and $22 and are very filling. So arrive hungry for brunch or lunch. For something lighter, there is an attractive display of cakes, sandwiches and focaccias. The black coffee was rich and my partner was impressed with a cup of the home made lemonade; fresh, tart and a real palate cleanser. A small and lively cafe, with interesting food and check the daily specials board. It's a lovely cafe that we heartily recommend. Our sincere thanks for the invitation to come here and sample things from the new menu.

But it's rammed for a reason. Great coffee and great staff. I've seriously never had a bad coffee here. At $4 for a small I shouldn't either. Staff are always friendly and efficient but if you happen to pop in during a quiet time (is there such a thing?) they are always up for a chat about coffee, food or random life happenings. I do like the food here but am sometimes left feeling a little ripped off in the price vs serving size stakes. That said, Kellie H is right - the bread is honestly the size of your head. If you can't find a seat at least grab a take away - one of the best places in Camberwell for coffee.

But no matter I went for an eggs Benedict instead, and so did the other half. Heard good things about the coffee here. Unfortunately I am no longer an avid drinker of coffee (thanks juice cleanse) so I just went for an OJ. That was served freshly squeezed in a huge mason jar it was cute. My partner got the latte and from the smell of it it seemed top notch! Also he said it was pretty damn special - so take his word for it guys :) So when hungover, time went by real slow for me. I was content sitting there spacing out and sipping on my OJ. Had I not been hungover though, I would have realized that 35 minutes went by and we didn't have our food yet. During that 35 minutes my partners coffee was long gone and 2 times that a waitresses came over she never offered him another coffee..! One of the waitresses came over extremely apologetic and promised us it was 5 mins away and admittedly they forgot about our order.. Dan was pretty dejected from this moment and wasn't very impressed with the place! They redeemed themselves though! Firstly they offered a second round of drinks on the house, and the food did come within 5 mins (notice that by the time we had our food we were now able to order the Reuben.. Dag nammit!) but the food was deeeeeelicous. It was beautifully presented and eggs were poached to perfection! We left there happy customers! So they had a rocky start, but we enjoyed the place and will come back (most likely after 1130 next time :))
