This was my first time taking a stroll along Mission Beach and watching the sunset. The beach itself was very busy with tourists and locals. I didn't get in the sand, but based on my observation, it seemed clean. Parking was free and plentiful.
In June 2026, I walked by the Mission Beach boardwalk which is next to the Belmont Park roller coaster. It has a classic southern CA vibe with joggers, walkers, and roller skaters enjoying the cool breezes of the Pacific Ocean or watching the sunset. The boardwalk extends to the north all the way to La Jolla and has a pretty view. The beach seemed to be relatively clean, but it was quite crowded. Since I was staying at the Bahia Resort Hotel, I walked 10 minutes to see the Boardwalk. But it looks like a difficult place to find street parking. Overall, I would say it's worth visiting once - but if you're visiting San Diego as a tourist, it's not a "must do" sight.

Found myself in town and couldn't believe I didn't notice my layover would be six hours. Grabbed my niece, threw her in a rental car and we went to the beach. She brought bread from our brunch and crackers from the plane and the seagulls and pigeons ate out of her hand. I was also able to get shorts and flip flops at one of the shops for her which she loved so much, she wore them to school the next day so she could brag about going to the beach in SD. Memories!
Beautiful Mission Bay has so much to offer. Sandy beach and gentle waves perfect for paddle boards, sailboats, bike and scooter paths plus easy strolling.Bring a blanket and a picnic and having a relaxing day. Very family friendly.
Well missing beaches pretty nice I mean you can walk him down of the beach they have a nice cement walkway for bikes and pedestrians I mean it's your normal beach nothing out the ordinary there was a lot of activity last weekend so it's always busy so the only drawback is it's hard to find parking same for the the boardwalk it's hard to find parking but other than that it's just your normal beach nothing out the ordinary
Beautiful, fun beach! Well kept! Everyone visiting here was super respectful as well. Seemed to be a good spot for surfing. Lots of fun little shops nearby to stop in. Will definitely visit again next San Diego trip!

One of the largest beaches here in San Diego for the many places for the state park and the Mission Beach park is one of the oldest for the many places of the beach comunity. Some of the many buildings they are of the older times of the beach front with the Belmont Roller Coaster near by. The surrounding beach coast you can see some of the many boats and the Naval Ships that pass through. The many areas of the inlet you will find the strip mall and the historical landmarks of the beach and the many areas to the south.. Mission Beach and the Belmont Park area the places of the coastline to the Point Loma were the years of the bootlegging the early years of San Diego. Mission Beach has been known for the large events of Spring Break and the gathering of so many for the Bi Bay boom that lit up the night sky. Mission Beach has been the larger gathering of the surfers that made up the many beach population for the surfing competitions that took place here in San Diego and the areas of North Mission Beach. With the long stretch of Mission Beach with the great History of the beach you could say that the beach arwa was the greatest history with the establishing of the first seaside roller coaster. Mission Beach is one area that has gone through many things yet the beach has been the learning and the start of the beach surfing for surfers around the world .
Mission beach is perfect for a stroll. Offers many close by shopping stores and restaurants. Not difficult to find a good area to set up a picnic on the beach and enjoy the ocean view.
I always call San Diego my happy place, and Mission Beach never disappoints. We have never technically stayed beach front until this trip. We got some marine air on some days, but that didn't take away from the beauty. I still enjoyed every bit of it. Especially when you get to see the dolphins put on a free show for you. So epic! I love how close you are to cute little beach bars, shopping, people watching, restaurants, mini theme park. Just so much to do. We even got yo enjoy a farmers market that was near. Great vendors, I might add. Just makes a person not want to leave to go home from vacation.
It's been over a year since we held a get-together here. I found I no longer have to arrive at o' dark thirty to snag a table and/or a grill. There's less vendors and more "normal" and recyclable trash cans around, so that's good. Easier to find parking? Maybe.

Lots of beach to sit and relax. It was pretty busy in certain areas but it's a long stretch so you can find a spot. The boardwalk has lots of food and shops around if you want to get something to eat. The sand is super nice and the water is super clear! read more
Been here a handful of time over the years. Never wrote a review. Guess it's time. We parked across from the beach, over near the park. Place gets busy on the weekends and probably on holidays or whenever it's beach weather. What's nice is that it's free but better store up that patience or get there early. We arrived a little before sunset and it was packed. Walking along the shops and boardwalk, expect to see a little bit of everything. Tourists. Locals. Kids. Adults. Pets. You name it. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary but just know, it's a public beach so anything could happen. Beach is clean - or as clean as it's going to be when there's humans involved. Down no the south end of the boardwalk is an entertainment center with a roller coaster, games and shops. We didn't wander there as we were there to check out the sunset. At least I was. Took a few pics of the sunset (see attached) and then we continued walking along the boardwalk looking for a place to possibly eat. Not finding anything to our liking, took off and went searching elsewhere. read more

Anytime I get a chance for a beach it should be a 5 star. We had friends who stayed near by the beach so it was only less than a minute walk. So easy to find a spot. Parking is busy as always especially for July 4th weekend. Sand, ocean water, sunshine, around 75 degrees for the high, and life guards and police making sure the environment is safe. read more

Decent place to walk around and chill either by yourself or with family/friends. Lots to do! Water is cold but bearable. I recommend to go early in the day and leave before it's dark, the crowd changes. Unless you're eating at one if the restaurants, outside public bathrooms. South Mission Beach has a lot of volleyball nets, just ask if you can hop in a game or bring your own ball and net. Places to rent bikes, shop, or dine. read more
Mission Beach has something to offer for people of all ages. It's clean, walkable, and offers a variety of fun activities whether it's surfing, roller skating, frisbee, walking your dog, taking your kids to the playground, swimming, or simply enjoying a nice walk / jog on the beach. There are plenty of free parking lots as well as many nearby restaurants and stores. read more
I used to frequent this gem back in the day when I worked for my Uncle at his car rental agency. I remembered it being so busy and clean. I visited yesterday and noticed nothing has changed aside for the ease of finding parking. There's still tons of beach sand and a handful of street performers. Lots of seagulls and rows of palm trees. The public restrooms are clean. The benches and picnic areas are too. There's a bit more graffiti that I remembered but it doesn't take away from the picturesque view of the ocean. With so much to see and do, it's an ideal place to sit back and relax. Whether you want to ride a bike, rollerblade or even paint - Mission Beach has it all and in one area. I plan to come back again and let my rascals roll around in the sand since it's December and the water might be a bit too chili for them to enjoy it. I never think to review beaches on Yelp but just in case someone else thinks to look for beach reviews on Yelp, here I am! I was recently on vacation to San Diego and had heard from someone local that mission beach wasn't a great spot for photography. Something in me needed to scratch the itch, so I drove out anyways and I am so glad I did! First of all, if you're looking for a beach with large rocks and a more PC wallpaper look you probably want to go to La Jolla. However - if you're looking for incredibly soft sand, volleyball, or the iconic boardwalk beach town vibes you definitely want to be at Mission Beach. I can see how this area would attract more tourists with an amusement park and several shops, but there was more than enough quiet boardwalk on the other end with beautiful beach houses, ocean, and the occasional biker or mom and kids. It was a dream to walk through at sunset and it was the only place I've ever been where I could genuinely see myself living happily. I will forever be envious of anyone with a home on mission beach! Is it the most lavish beach in SD? No. Is it the most charming? In my opinion - yes. I think it's adorable and I'll include pictures to prove it! read more

DINGY BEACH w/ obnoxious beach goers and tourists. Mission Beach is mainly known for its amusement spot Belmont Park which is pretty good. However, the beach it's laid on is so dirty it broke my heart. The water was dark, like it's been polluted and no one was entering. The bathroom situation was absolutely horrific, dudes were leaving their boxer briefs in the stalls, toilets and urinals. I literally wanted to die. The toilets do NOT flush and nothing is ever cleaned. Mission Beach seemed like it's going for Venice Beach but much grimier. It's disappointing that the beach management and staff are not keeping an eye on anything. Even the lifeguards are goofing off. I found the stores and food lined up across the beach to be good, they get a recommendation! However, the rest of this beach needs help. Here's to hoping things change! read more

4th July Weekend. Busy at the beach but still a good time. Weather felt amazing and of course the vibe was too. Nothing like spending the day at the beach. read more
As many times as we've been here, I cannot believe I have not written a review! We truly enjoy the ocean and this area is one of our favorites. We enjoy our morning walks here. The view of the ocean helps us destress. We love the homes and condos here. Some are just ok, but then you'll see some unique ones with fantastic landscaping. Some homes decorate with pirates or surfing stuff. You'll see people biking or skating, too. Step out of their way. Once we tucker ourselves out, we usually stop at one of the local coffee shops. We'll pickup a coffee or a chai latte with pastries and sit down and enjoy the beautiful views of the ocean. It's so relaxing for us. It's also great to watch the surfers catch their waves! Sometimes the young college students will play volleyball and that's good entertainment as well. After that, we'll window shop and find a spot for breakfast or lunch with one of the local eateries. Overall, great place for people who enjoy the beach. There's a lifeguard station here. There's public restrooms available. Of course, the outdoor shower stations to wash off the sand. Parking? It's off street parking. We actually parked across the street in the residential area. read more
I mean, can it get any better than this? People watching, vendors, warm breeze, and conversations. I've talked Mission Beach up a bit just because of the ones I like, they have the non-rickety Ferris wheel! Among many other things, but let's just be real, that's a pretty neat entrance to roll up to while you look for parking. Don't be me and not being tennis shoes, though. I learned and teach quickly, to have that second lair handy. That board walk is long folks! read more
I had a great time visiting Mission Beach!! A very lively area with Belmont Park, the Boardwalk, and places to eat here along with all types of vendors selling all types of stuff, you can see it's easy to spend a day here. We walked along the Boardwalk for a while, it was hot, the beach had a fair amount of people. Running, bike riding and walking goes on here all day long. Kind of seemed like anything goes here also, seen some homeless people, burned out bonfires, people indulging if you know what I mean, but it's all good. This is a very clean beach, I enjoyed myself here!! read more

No grilling or fires allowed.

A lot near the coaster area then more near the beach by the volleyball and bball courts

Belmont park area on beach do they let you have a bonfire?
I've been going there all my adult life, and always see people with bonfires in the evening. I can't imagine why they'd restrict it by Belmont park - I've never seen signs that say it's prohibited. Good luck!
What are eating places like at Mission beach?
pizza ,ice cream ,sandwiches ,hamburgers ,they also have a bar ,Oh yeah almost forgot you might have taco there is so good make sure you order California burrito is the best
