My family and I recently had the privilege of staying at a beach rental that was managed by Mission Beach Management. Sarina and Luke were very helpful in answering all out questions and concerns both before, and during our stay. The property (707 Seagirt Court) was better than we expected, and we have no complaints whatsoever! 824 Island Court This place is a gem. My daughter and I arrived late. Google maps had the location wrong, but was easy to find. The 2 bedrooms were great and overall comfortable and very clean. Parking place was tight so suggest a small economy vehicle. It rained a little so didn't do much on the front lanai area but had nice accommodations with BBQ grill and patio seating. My 5yr old grandson stayed the night with us and he fell in love with the bunk beds. Had a great time. I do highly recommend to others very nice place and the hosts were very professional and helpful when needed. read more

Just had submitted an inquiry about one of their rental properties to just find out more information and the landlord for the property was very rude on our call. Not sure if they just needed the place filled asap or what but it was very out of the blue and unnecessary. Will not be considering renting any of their propeties moving forward now because I have to imagine if this is how they speak to prospective renters it will only be worse once were actually under contract and theyre not trying to get us to sign. read more

We stayed for a week late summer in an ocean front cottage. We live in San Diego so it was a staycation for us. Cottage was so quaint, cozy and perfectly located that we are reserving next year for 2 weeks! The cottage was perfect: clean, well-appointed with beach equipment (visiting grandson exclaimed, "there's 5 body boards!!"), kitchen necessities, linens, everything. Sarina and Luke were extremely helpful during my unplanned stay in the San Diego area. With very short notice they were able to get me into an apartment that more than met my needs. They were very easy to get in touch with and highly responsive. I felt the apartment was fairly priced given the location and its condition. Sure, there were a few things that were a bit worn, but I believe the price reflected that this was not a luxury accommodation. I opted to pay the fee for cleaning. (Just do it, people!) Mission Beach Management is a scam. Our slimy landlord Luke Nordmarken lied, penny pinched, and took advantage of good tenants. My roommate and I ( both nurses) paid an egregious amount of money to live in an apartment on Hornblend St. that was poorly kept and rundown to begin with. When we moved in, the couch smelled like urine had a massive tear in the cushion. The mattress upstairs was so thin that I could feel the skeleton of the bedframe. Luke made it clear that replacing this furniture was not essential and quite the inconvenience for him. The shades were broken when we arrived...he charged us for new shades. The microwave was clean and operating when we moved out....he charged us for a new microwave. We left the apartment clean and followed all of Luke's move out instructions; we even left food for the cleaning people. He charged us for "13 hours of excessive cleaning" even though we cleaned the house and had already paid the cleaning fee. We called Luke to discuss these charges and asked for receipts. He could not back up any of these charges and stopped answering. All in all an extremely frustrating and unfair experience with mission beach management with Luke and Sarina. read more

They offer vacation property rentals in Mission Beach and Mission Bay. Serena is professional, well-organized, and no-nonsense. She doesn't waste her time or yours trying to upsell you beyond your budget. Of course, the locations and amenities of some of the properties do that for themselves. Fortunately, they have the whole range from $500-$5000/week. There are daily & monthly rates too, as well as house-shares. If you are looking for relaxation or kids making sandcastles, I'd recommend the Mission Bay side, but I think most people prefer the Mission Beach side for the action, surf, and people-watching. read more

I recently stayed here while waiting to close on a condo. I liked the fact that this place was pretty much on the beach. I was within walking distance to pretty much anything in Mission Beach to include two liquor stores and a few dive bars. The weekends (to include Thursday nights) were typically filled with college kids going to various parties in the area. The loudness wasn't too bad as the college crowd merely walked past the apartment towards their next party. Now don't get me wrong, I am pretty easy going when it comes to places to stay, so I don't have much to complain about. I loved being this close to the beach and my neighbors were quiet and considerate. Parking can be a pain but the property that I stayed at had assigned parking so no complaints there. I would run on the strand at night sometimes and did not feel at all uncomfortable compared to when I used to frequent Mission Beach years before. My place was upgraded and had new wood flooring and a nice leather couch. If I could I would stay here forever if it wasn't a vacation home. I would definitely come back if I was ever in need of a place to stay. read more

Location, location, location!!! The home we stayed at was steps from the beach. It was a very quiet location close to everything! My family and I enjoyed the whole experience. It was a perfect set up for a family with 3 young children. Great patio. The price could not be beat for the location (near the pier, Belmont, shopping, etc.) To respond to other reviews: If you want to have a 5 star resort setting, go to a 5 star resort. If you are looking for clean, family-friendly accommodations steps from the beach, this is for you. Just remember, you are staying in someone's home. Have some respect for their property. Treat it as if you are a guest, not a customer. We chose the self-cleaning option to remain budget. In other words, we left the home exactly as we found it. We had no issues with receiving our deposit back. We plan to stay at this location next year. The company was great to work with. Sarina was great! read more

I just moved into a Mission Beach Management rental. First, I have to say that I dealt w/ 3 other companies before selecting MBM. Luc and Sarina were very engaged and provided me w/ creative solutions to secure an immediate monthly rental. The cottage I am in is old-school and reminds me of our own family beach properties when I was growing up. Decor is not the greatest, but I am massively comfortable. Property was very clean upon entry. I really appreciated not having any sand on the floors as is so often the case at the beach. (And vacuuming up sand to get it off is a real challenge, so I was impressed)...Kitchen was clean (except for a couple dirty dishes and knives) An upgrade of dishes and glasses would be nice, but honestly, I rented a cottage, not a 5 star residence, so to those of you who made less than desirable comments on YELP, I would say, first, contact Luc and Sarina who are very accommodating and present immediately when you discover you need help. And, if you need to wash a couple dishes to get to your desired level of cleanliness, just do it....and then enjoy the amazing location and be thankful to be in Mission Beach. PS. I own a vacation rental and when I travel (6 months each year) I always stay in vacation rentals. So I trust my judgement and understand the business and the effort it takes to make everyone happy. The only positive thing I can say about our vacation rental was that it was right on the beach, just 75 steps from the sand, other than that- two big thumbs down. We stayed at the Portsmouth rental and it was a dump!! I talked with Serena the property manager and she was not helpful at all! The roof deck was heavily advertised and one of the reasons we chose this property, well......The grill was rusted and disgusting, not able to even be cooked on. We called and they brought over a replacement grill, which we appreciated, but then WE had to get it onto the roof and help get the old one down. Even though we were then able to grill, The patio set on the roof deck is rusted, disgustingly filthy and just falling apart, definitely not a comfortable place to sit and have dinner at all. The screens had holes in them, so again they sent a repairman, but by this point we were starting to feel irritated that we had to keep coordinating with people who needed to come replace/fix stuff during our vacation, I didn't feel like that should have been our problem. The coffee table was broken and they came and took that away, so we just didn't have a coffee table after that, which wasn't that big of a deal, but contributed to the list of that things were in ill repair. A major problem was that the oven doesn't work. My friend came by with stuff to make a lovely dinner and dessert for my family and the brownies cooked for 2 hours and still didn't get done. She wasted all that money on food that had to be thrown away and we had to go out to dinner instead, I notified Serena and she once again wanted to send a repairman, I declined and told her she could wait until we check out and we just wouldn't plan to use the oven again. At no point was any compensation offered for the inconvenience during our stay or the non-working items. Generally speaking the place is in desperate need of updating. The couches are ripped and broken, the ottoman doesn't come out on either side of the couch. The beds are old and the sheets don't fit on them, they just keep popping off all night. The chairs in the upstairs bedroom are old and uncomfortable. The toilets are super small and the bathrooms are ancient and falling apart. The shower curtain is filthy and the towel racks are falling off the walls, the sliding flex-door is being held together with a bobbie pin, The towels they provide are old and don't seem clean, the washcloths all smelled like mildew:( We spent quite a bit of time doing laundry. We had to go buy ant spray because the kitchen is infested with ants and I killed at least 4 spiders in the upstairs bedroom. The kitchen sink leaks. The entire rental is dusty, windows are dirty and there is no a/c. We did leave a fan in the upstairs room for future guests because it is stiflingly hot upstairs. They allow the renters to clean themselves, which I am sure most people elect to do to save the $175 cleaning fee.......and I'm sure that is a big reason why this rental is so dirty. When we checked in the downstairs bedroom had a pair of minnie mouse ears in the bed under the covers so I don't believe the sheets were even washed by the previous guests at all. It is also advertised as an ocean view which I feel is very misleading, the only view of the ocean is from the corner of the deck and you have to stand and lean to see it. I would never stay here again, that's for sure and I was very unimpressed with the property management company as well:( read more

Sarina was very professianal but simpleminded.She was not a negotiater,she didnt take a step to us while we were trying to solve the issue of how to take our deposit back when we were returning back to our country.Last year I was pregnant when we rent a house from their properties,I remember when we met them at office we had an argue to solve that issue,she was not polite and kind,than I cried because of getting nervous.She was not understanding to a pregnant women's situation. Another issue,in a sunday early morning she knocked our door harshly,because a water pipe was broken in front of the house-I dont know why- and some water was leaking to the oceanfront walk.She act like,we did something.But we learned the situation from her,early morning with our pajamas.Than when I talked with homeowner,they said it is not a big problem and no need to repair it.She was so rude and arrogant.I'm sorry meeting her in my pregnancy period,it was a bad experience. read more

My roommate and I rented a place in a great location for several months while on a travel nurse assignment. All I have to say is be very careful when you move in. The place was very outdated and had that general dirty appearance that an older, unmaintained beach house would have. We cleaned it to the best of our ability and left it in the condition in which we found it but were still charged a $120 cleaning fee because we didn't wipe down the blinds and baseboards, etc. and management claimed it took them 20 hours to re-clean what we had 'attempted'. To be fair, I did not fill out the exact move in checklist because I did not have a printer, but I used it as a guideline for an e-mail with what was wrong and was told that would suffice. When I initially moved in half of the lightbulbs were dead with only one extra in the house, a lot of the light switches don't work with the lights, one of the toilets was running, the internet didn't work properly and some of the amenities provided don't work (i.e. broken stereo, leaking britta filter, TV's with no remotes). If I had known I would need to note every dust bunny in the house to avoid being charged, I certainly would have done so. They have a list of things to clean before you leave, which we followed, but apparently that is just a 'guideline' and does not specify that the house needs to be 'detailed'. Also, utilities are not included, even for the length we stayed, and they are quite costly on top of an already high rental rate. When requested, every issue was taken care of in a timely manner. However, an overall disappointing stay and rather insulting to be told that a house in that condition wasn't cleaned up to their 'standards'. read more

I found my unit on Craigslist. After seeing reviews, I was hesitant to stay here, but I was pleasantly surprised. That being said, I am a travel nurse and was looking for somewhere to stay for 2 weeks for part of my assignment in San Diego. They were always quick to respond to questions. My unit was even upgraded. I came a day late bc of flight issues and they had no problem accommodating. I am a pretty clean person and stayed in the actual apartment minimally as I was working and I like being outside. I got my full security deposit. They even forwarded me some mail that came in after I left which was very thoughtful. The unit itself was on mission Blvd. I stayed in July. It was pricey, but everything is pricey in that area. I actually found their prices the cheapest compared to others I was looking at. You're paying for location and you're steps off the beach. I had a studio w a Murphy bed, leather couch, updated bathroom, and decent sized kitchen. Perfect for one person for a couple weeks! There's little stores for groceries at a walkable distance and plenty of places that are a short drive away. There's no laundry on site which wasn't a big deal to me. There's a laundry mat about 5 minute walk away. Only issue I had was parking. You have a spot but the way it's arranged, you have to coordinate w neighbors so no one is blocking another car in. It was easy enough to deal w for the most part. sometimes I would street park to avoid having to worry about if my car was blocking someone. Long story short; I would definitely stay again! F you're looking for a simple place to stay by the water, I would absolutely recommend it. I enjoyed my time here and only wish I had stayed there longer. read more

I booked one of Mission Beach Managements properties through Airbnb. Unfortunately I had to cancel the trip due to a health concern regarding my immune system, as I am recently in remission from cancer. I explained the situation to them and asked for a refund so I could rebook the trip in the future when my health stabilizes. Their immediate response was "they understood," insinuating they would be flexible on the refund. When I followed up, they hid behind their cancellation policy and only refunded the cleaning fee, which was 6% of the entire booking. They ended up getting a booking for the weekend I cancelled so my cancellation did not lead to them losing a full week of rentals. On their website they state that they refund if they are still able to book it but their Airbnb policy is different. They are well within their rights as business owners to keep my money but I am extremely disappointed in the lack of humanity and compassion in handling the situation and the greed in not refunding, even a partial fee, for the days they were able to get a replacement booking. I would recommend renting through a company that operates with care and genuine understanding for the people they do business with. read more

Awesome experience and very pleasant dealings with the management company. I love how management is really open and honest when discussing past reviews with potential guests. Putting things into perspective that you cant make everyone happy no matter how hard you try and how much they break their backs to accommodate irrational expectations. I was really impressed with Luke and Sarina's patience. After hearing some rantings from someone on this page about cockroaches, we were a little wary but didn't find a single sign of this. Have to wonder if the drama queens writing some reviews brought them in with their luggage and bad attitudes. Do you have anything better to do on vacation besides move around ovens? It's an airbnb, not a 5 star hotel. If you're so concerned about service, check out the L'Auberge. Get outside and enjoy San Diego instead of knitpicking over a family run business you voluntarily chose. Loved watching the sunrise from the porch every morning and walking down the boardwalk every night. Can't wait to come back again! read more

I stayed in a studio just steps away from the beach with my boyfriend and best friend & the location was impeccable. (walking distance to convenience store, amusement park, great restaurants, etc) The apartment was no more or less than we expected... but i was extremely disappointed by the lack of hospitality/customer service (which CLEARLY shows in their responses to their bad yelp reviews.... so before you think about replying to this with your attitude like you have with all other poor reviews, SAVE IT. lmao) It came time to check out and I looked on the paper with checkout procedures that was given to us at check in.. and everything BUT check out time was on it (which is 10). I should have looked at the website to confirm but i thought it was 11... Our room was UNLOCKED & barged into at 9:50 with NO KNOCK or anything...BY A MANAGER. (name is serena i believe.) extremely unprofessional and would have been very uncomfortable if one of us were changing clothes. We were packing up and cooking breakfast and the woman was very ill-mannered, giving attitude, dirty looks to everything i said even though i was mainly apologizing about my mistake on check out time. I gave her the towels & bed linens so she could start on the laundry and rudely said that we needed to be out because she is checking someone into that room today (i work in a hotel so i understand needing a room vacant to be cleaned before check in time... but even if we left at 11am.. a 4pm check in gives them 5 hours to clean a STUDIO that is no more than 800 square feet, there is just no need to be THAT rude about an honest mistake. not to mention the place wasn't super clean when we checked in anyways so its not like they would use all 5 hours.) When we left at around 10:30, the housekeeper said for probably the 4th or 5th time that check out was at 10 (because he was waiting outside for us to leave which i also felt bad for). I told him the check out time is not on the paper with check out procedures or in the information binder that is kept in the room. He hurried over to the binder to try to prove me wrong. Flipped through the pages for about 60 seconds but failed to find it as well; i just apologized again for the confusion & told him to stop looking because i did not want to waste any more of his time and left. I work in hospitality and was honestly appalled when the door was unlocked & opened by a MANAGER with no knock and it wasnt even check out time.. seriously so unprofessional. As i said i stayed with my best friend and boyfriend. I booked through airbnb and accidentally made the reservation for 2 people, Luke brought this to my attention when i booked and i immediately altered the # of guests and paid the difference. My boyfriend has a friend that lives in San Diego who met up with us in the mornings and slept at his house at night because he did not want to pay us $100 to share a futon with my best friend (who is a girl he had never met) When the woman barged into our room 10 minutes before checkout, she saw him there as he had come to meet up with us on our last day in california. A day after we left they emailed me saying we owed them $45 because a 4th person stayed in the room. I missed his email and they had airbnb contact me today to ask for the money. I was honest from the start about how many people were in the room and immediately altered my mistake when they pointed out i only booked for 2 people. The fact that i am being nickel and dimed after i was honest and barged in on is desperate and extremely ridiculous. I was not even planning on leaving a bad review until they had airbnb contact me 2 months after my stay for $40 that they think i owe based on ASSUMPTION when they walked into my room unannounced. I would recommend staying at their properties solely because it is close to the beach but expect rock bottom level customer appreciation & hospitality. read more

My wife an I rented a property practically on the beach. My wife is pregnant and we were both in our forties so we thought this might be the tonic we needed after living in the city and it was. The property was clean and well equipped for a vacation rental. The view of the crashing waves from nearly every window was like therapy. We intended staying for five weeks but kept extending it as it was hard to leave to go back to a city. Be aware Mission beach and PB are a young persons paradise and you will witness the odd party during peak seasons, but they are polite and generally noise never goes onto the early hours. Parking is very tight, everywhere...we managed our PT fairly well, we had friends rent another unit with a large SUV that took a little maneuvering. Id recommend the street parking nearby if youre driving something large or just go for it, our neighbours squeezed two cars in one space! Most of these properties can get fairly battered during the odd winter storm so annually AT&T have to repace the cables outside. We had problems with the internet and a broken garbage dsposal. The management team were very quick to deal with these unexpected problems. They are friendly and approachable and not some souless agents, these guys have been doing this for decades. There are properties to suit every pocket, ours was more expensive than some of the others, and worth every penny....happy vacation! read more

Property was at Sunset Place on ocean side. Literally beach front. It was a 1BR/BA. Comfortable with good cross ventilation & fans in kitchen & BR. Coffee was most important to us & Sarina exchanged a small coffeemaker for a 10 cup model. Much appreciated. Ample supplies and a functioning gas BBQ. Hot & humid the 5 days we were there so it made having windows open a necessity at night. Friday night was the only bad night for partying so we just joined them. Would stay there again. read more

We had to change our vacation plans and had a limited budget but we were able to get a nice little studio for a week, all inclusive for cheap. Was it 5 star? No, but the bill wasn't either! It was close to everything, we parked our car for the whole week and used our bikes to get anywhere, shopping, the bars, SeaWorld and even the Zoo. We rented on San Fernando, steps to the beach and steps to the Bay. Mission Beach is a party town on the weekends but our place was quiet and neighbors courteous. We are already planning for next year and will use this company again. We left our place as we found it and received all of our 300.00 deposit back, we had no issues with parking and no issues with the unit itself. While the place was small, it served our needs well, we didn't drive 1200 miles to stay inside but rather, spend most of our time outdoors. See you next year! read more

Rented a cottage on the beach. We are not yet done with our rental but so far it has been a great experience. The cottage was a bargain. It is small (very small), but it is literally 15 feet from the beach and the location is worth every penny. Is the cottage old - yes it is, but who cares when you are on the beach. Parking spot was included and our family had a blast! I have not yet departed so I cannot comment as to security deposit (as mentioned in other reviews). Hopefully all will go well and we will get our $300 returned - really not sure how this place could take more than 45 minutes to clean, being that it is that small, so not sure how it could cost anymore than our 495 cleaning fee we paid prior to arrival. Mission Beach is really fun for people watching, hanging out, walking and riding bikes. read more

My family of 4 recently stayed at a small 2bd 1ba house on Whiting. Location, Location, LOCATION! It's a small original cottage from the 20's but is only 1 house from the boardwalk and beach. It's older but functional and clean. Management was fair with pricing and Sarina was nice as well. If you leave the place how you walked into it, you will get your deposit back 100% as we did. We rented a one bedroom on the beach with this company for one week. We paid a 300 "refundable depoisit" First of all, the location was great however when we arrived the place was not clean or updated at all. The blinds were falling down and the place looked like it had not been painted or renovated for 10 years. The owner of the company had a list of rules and regulations two pages long. We were responsible to "clean the place as it was found upon arrival. We spent two hours cleaning and then were told we would not get out entire deposit back because it was dirty. The ownner was very rude and informed us that it took two hours to clean up the place. What a joke. Do not rent from this company. read more

well, we stayed here summer of 2011, so maybe there's been a change in management, but here's our lowdown: [1] great location! right next to the beach (literally), no problems with management, kitchen well-stocked with kitchenware (=P) [2] pretty much everything was orderly and clean. gripes: [1] manager can be bit frosty...like your grandmother...=P but fair. [2] had this issue with keeping things clean as you found them. however, my husband being the industrial corp. manager said, "it's not worth our time to clean. lets just pay the cleaning bill," and that was that! =) [3] parking - ugh, but it is mission beach. =) just in response to the two negative posts...again, it has been a year since we stayed here, but mission beach is not necessarily supposed to be a quiet place. =) During the summer, mission beach during the day is populated by middle class families and during the night, MB is populated by under-age college kids. =). if you like peace and quiet, i'd say La Jolla is more your alley...peace. read more

Couple in our late 50's rented one of the beach side cottages for a week. This is an older cottage but was neat and clean. The location provides a ringside seat for people watching on the ocean walk which was my favorite past time. The downside is some noisy foot traffic at night that woke my wife but not me. The parking space is small but our Subaru Legacy fit without a problem. Having the parking is a big plus. The kitchen was well stocked for dining in. A shared laundry room is a plus. The place could use a new bed but the one there did the job. Because we had an early flight we opted to pay the cleaning fee of $75. I recommend this option unless you are extremely neat and have a few extra hours to do laundry and some cleaning. The departure checklist with the cleaning option not onerous. The property manager was responsive as evidenced by a door repair completed within hours of our email. If you are looking for modern or new this cottage isn't for you. But if you don't mind an older structure that is neat and clean right on the ocean walk then check it out. We had a blast and hope to return sometime in the future. TIP- we rented 3825 which has a smaller porch. If you have the option I recommend going for the other cottage next door that has a bigger porch and is still on the on beach. read more

My family has used this company and property for 30+ years (most recently in Feb 2013 and Aug 2016) Have never had a bad experience. I'm not looking for a flashy place to stay. I rented on San Fernando Pl, an small studio. I felt it was fairly overpriced for off-season. Don't get me wrong, it was clean and stocked to meet all kitchen needs, had linens and furnishings. However, it was not updated in any way, heavily 80's- I ended up buying all new kitchen cookery, the linens and furniture were well used and aggravated a hip issue; the blinds were broken; and occasionally an electrician would come into do work - at one point - cutting holes in walls which created a dusty mess (around food) I was left to clean up. The grounds/rooms could really benefit from a little investment that would justify the price - i.e. install futons/flatscreens/wall shelves/ closet shelves that would create more space. The outside tables are all rusty and seat cushions. A bike rack would be nice. On top of all that, I had to, in addition to rent, pay gas/electric/TV AND water. Nobody charges for water anymore. If that is the case, just charge a higher rate and let the people think it is all inclusive. Really... water! Anyway, I was not unhappy with my stay. Serena and Luke are right there to address concerns and fix things. When there was a fire in the office, we were all put up in great alternate housing for a few days. I just think it needs some upgrading to justify the cost. read more

Loved our vacation. Sarina is very nice and professional and gets back to you if you call with any questions or directions. The little 1 BR old cottage was all we needed and the price was fair, as I am sure newer properties cost a lot more. I had no problem with it being older as we were right on the beach front and loved people watching, walking, bike riding, eating, etc. Everything is in walking distance, or ride your bike or drive. It was on Mission Beach north side, close to pacific beach and the pier and yes the crowd is a little younger, but there are also older folks like us there and everyone is nice and courteous. We would stay here again for sure, The only problem we had was that one of our bike led lights was stolen, so next time we will have to bring our bikes inside. Thank you Sarina :) read more

My wife and recently rented one of the studio's for 3 days. Luke was very helpful with us during the entire process including understanding that we were going to arrive after hours. It was affordable and a lot more convenient than getting a hotel room, just as advertised. Studio was just steps from the boardwalk, bars and beach. Even had a grill that we used! I would highly recommend and cant wait to go back. read more
