What an awesome little place - and just around the corner from my house! It's a gorgeous space; complete with industrial furnishings and wooden furniture, and they have a huge farmhouse sink for DIY table water refills! We sat outside - the brisk air a welcome relief from the over-heated indoor regions of most shops and cafes. The inhabitants of this leafy suburb carried on their business at 10am on a Saturday morning - we were passed by joggers, families, and SO many dogs (much to my elation!). It was a gorgeous, humble, relaxed atmosphere - made even better by the absence of a line at 10am on a Saturday!
The service was good - nothing spectacular but friendly and quick. The food was absolutely delicious, and they had some really interesting items on the menu (a VEGETARIAN breakfast tortilla?! Be still, my heart!). I chose to order the Little Breakfast - one poached egg on buttered toast with a side of my choosing (avocado), to which I added mushrooms as well. The serving seemed a little small on first glance, but filled me up just fine (perhaps serve on smaller plates?) and, as my partner pointed out; "as long as it was tasty - that's the important part!" My partner himself went with an old favourite - the bacon and egg roll.
As for the coffee? Ben L hit the nail on the head with his "smooth and strong" comment. I was very close to going back for seconds!
As a providore they sell a few bits and pieces for your trip home - breads, coffee beans, muffins and bagels... Personally? I loved the honey they had on sale at the door - local as local can be; honey sourced at the Camberwell train station, in Surrey Hills, and in Wattle Park - just down the road!
