El Trébol Liquors & Bar is one of Chicago's awesome and old-school half bar/half liquor store…read moresetups. Unlike some of the other slashies I've been to where the areas are mixed, this one is a liquor store up front with the bar sort of hidden/tucked in the back. If you stopped in for a six-pack you'd miss the fact that it was a bar (hold for the sounds of music and people having a good time coming from out of nowhere). Once you enter the bar area, you can try to find a seat at the bar or at a table but you'll order at the bar either way. This is in Pilsen, so the primary language spoken is Spanish but the bartender was bilingual. Trébol is located in Pilsen along one of the main east/west streets that create and pass through the commercial area of the neighborhood. Two tips: First, the men's bathroom door doesn't lock, so be forewarned! Second, cash is preferred if you've got it, but if you don't, you can pay with a card up front in the liquor store area.

Massive private lot and the staff are actually really nice. There's cops and armed guards here round the clock so if you're brave enough to venture here, you're reasonably safe. Haha The Bad: It's ghetto. Obviously. The Ugly: This is a rough, to say it lightly, neighborhood. You may hear gunshots and sirens a few times while in line but coming from a rough part of South Central as a kid, it doesn't phase me. Just jump off the highway, mind your own business, and enjoy. Tried to open one of the bottles and the cork disintegrated into sawdust consistency into the wine itself. We tasted the wine and it had a foul taste and non-drinkable. Thru it out. The five days in this major high heat in vehicles and locations without some sort of refrigeration was the cause. I Contacted Liquorama, and they blamed me. But I'm glad they're there. My routine: call up Mundial Cocina, make sure the restaurant has seats. Gather up people for dinner, rush to F&R (aka Garcia Liquor and Foods to the Locals), wonder around the Spanish/S. American red isle for 2 minutes, wait for someone to ask: can I help you? Mention Mundial's nuevo-Mexicano cuisine of which they're perfectly aware and wait for a rec on a mild Spanish tempranillo or a Chilean cab. These guys have never steered me wrong in price nor taste.
