I recently returned to the office for a follow-up visit after being diagnosed with the flu B, as my…read moresymptoms had worsened and I was concerned about the possibility of developing pneumonia. While the doctor was reassuring, attentive, and ultimately grateful that I came back in to be re-evaluated, my interaction with the medical assistant, Liz, was unfortunately disappointing. Liz appeared visibly annoyed from the start and rushed through her questions without much care or attentiveness. When I tried to explain why I had returned--out of concern for my worsening symptoms--she rolled her eyes and dismissively responded, "well, you have the flu." This felt unprofessional and invalidating, especially given that I was following prior guidance to come back if things didn't improve. Healthcare settings can be stressful for patients, and bedside manner matters just as much as clinical care. A little empathy and patience would have gone a long way in making me feel heard and supported during a time when I was already feeling unwell and obviously anxious! I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as improving communication and compassion can make a significant difference in patient experience. LOVE the rest of the staff. Never wait too long . Always helpful.

The problem lie with the MA I was assigned to a Illnise Bonhomme. She had issues with my name. I had to spell out John very slowly and one letter at a time. Even spelling it one letter at a time she spelled it Gohm. I had to correct it. I was nervous about her giving me the test if she couldn't spell John right. She got the supplies and then as she was getting ready said ok 1,2,3 and hubbed the needle into my arm subcutaneously and injected. It's a PPD placement it's supposed to be an intradermal test where a wheal(bubble) is produced. She injected it under the skin like it was insulin. I told her she did the test wrong it was subcutaneous not intradermal and she argued with me. I told her I'm an NP and you did the test incorrectly. She said I did it right. Come back in 48-72 hours. I was mad. She blew me off, did not want to learn or correct it. I asked for her supervisor since it now needed to be redone correctly. The NP on call came over and introduced herself. I showed her what happened. Told her it was not an ID but a SQ injection. She could see there's no wheal. She then placed it correctly in my other arm. I tried to show the MA what it should have looked like but instead of looking to see the difference she blew me off and kept walking. I spoke with the administrator that was called and relayed the information. Everyone else at the clinic was great. I would happily see the NP there and the front desk person. I will never let Illnise Bonhomme, MA ever take care of me again. We all make mistakes but to not care you made a mistake, not try to fix the mistake and not try to learn from the mistake is what is most upsetting.

At the time of my visit, I was informed by the receptionist that my total charge would be $283. When I asked about my insurance coverage, she stated that after the first of the year, the first bill must be paid in full by the patient. Based on this representation, I paid the $283. This explanation did not sit well with me. Approximately four weeks later, I contacted Humana directly to verify my responsibility for the visit. I was informed that, under my policy, I was only responsible for a $50 copayment. I explained to Humana what had occurred at True Compassion Urgent Care, and a conference call was arranged with their billing department. During the call, Rafael from Billing stated that Humana had never paid the claim and that he was therefore retaining my payment. However, Humana advised him during that same call that payment had in fact been issued three weeks prior. This situation raises serious concerns, as it appears I was charged the full amount despite the insurance payment having already been processed. Had I not contacted Humana to question the charge, I believe this overpayment would not have been brought to my attention. Additionally, Rafael was extremely rude during the conference call with both Humana and myself and ultimately disconnected the call. The following day, I contacted the city to report what I believe to be improper billing practices. I also called True Compassion Urgent Care and left a message for the medical assistant requesting a return call, but my message was not returned. After I informed the receptionist that I intended to report the matter and that I believed the billing practices were improper, Rafael contacted me shortly thereafter and offered to return my money. Had I not independently pursued clarification with my insurance company, True Compassion Urgent Care would have retained $283, when my actual responsibility was only $50 -- resulting in a $233 overpayment on my part.

The hospital has grown exponentially with new buildings. The staff are kind, the security and valet are on point, and the hospital rooms are very clean. As a patient, I appreciate the ability to order meals in advance. Moreover, they offer lots of alternatives such as almond and oat milk. As a visitor, I appreciate the ability to grab a cup of Joe. Bonus: if you're a fan of Starbucks, they serve it. They also have a large gift shop. Finally, the patient portal is a fantastic resource. While I hope I don't need to return as a patient anytime in the near future, I have no reservations about checking in at JMC especially for any oncology needs.
