I have had two excellent experiences at the River Ridge CVS Minute Clinic in Asheville, NC. Because…read moreof some really bad situations where I almost died as a kid, I am pretty phobic of doctors in general. Both times the Physicians Assistants at Minute Clinic were very understanding and caring--I actually felt at ease--and they were professional and they diagnosed me accurately. The first time I had bronchitis that was going into pneumonia. I was prescribed a Zpack round of antibiotics and an inhaler, and the PA wrote me a note to stay out of work. The second time I had a very bad case of dizziness. Rather than spending a fortune at the Emergency Room, I made an appointment with the Minute Clinic online on a Sunday morning last January. I had to be there in 15 mins, and was seen in less than 5 minutes of my arrival. Turns out, my dizziness was from water in my inner ear. I was prescribed over the counter drugs to dry this up. I had never had either of these illnesses before, and the PAs accurately diagnosed me, and with what they prescribed I quickly healed. Also, the Minute Clinic accepted my Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance, and all I had to pay was the deductible, which for me was $20, and of course the over the counter drugs on the second visit.

Since I have so much free time at the moment, here's the google review I just posted:…read more Bad experience, avoid if possible. Visiting town for a vacation and my son developed pink eye. After waiting 45 minutes with no one else around, we were finally seen. The Trainee NP who saw him had zero experience with kids and had to be walked through the exam process step by step by her trainer, exhibiting an amazing ineptitude the whole time. Like she'd never even watched a medical drama on TV. Then, after a 30 minute exam to successfully diagnose bilateral pinkeye (like any person who has tangentially been involved with children can do in about four seconds), all parties rejoiced. Then, the kicker, they messed up the prescription and never actually placed it, which is weird, because the pharmacy is 15 feet away in the same building. We'll see what the bill is, but I expect a 6 figure invoice containing charges for open heart surgery and a leg amputation. Avoid if you are able and have any other options or self respect.

Went in today with a nasty infection after a toothache. Reception and medical staff were all polite…read moreand professional. Wait time was only about 15 minutes to see the assistant and another 15 to see the doctor/nurse. Doc took a look in my mouth, took maybe 15 seconds to go "yep that's an infected tooth there." She left for another 10 minutes, came back with an itemized list of instructions and my prescriptions were already faxed to my pharmacy. Entire visit was maybe an hour at most, plus it's all the same medical group as my psychiatrist, so insurance and check-in was easy.

First and foremost: Leslie (Nurse? Radiographer?) and Dr. Matt were simply awesome…read more The front desk employees not so much. I'm not trying to belittle anyone's job but can you please explain to me how hard it is to take someone's ID and insurance...enter their information into a computer...and COMPLETELY FORGET to give the patent back their ID and insurance card? Maybe I should have prefaced my previous paragraph with the fact that I was the only patient in the waiting room upon my arrival... phones were not ringing... it was very quiet except for the TV playing Good Morning America in the background. Not only that, I sat back down for about 5 minutes (until I was called to the back) where I spent an additional 20-25 minutes with the doctor and the radiographer taking X-rays of my chest. At any point in that time frame someone from the front desk could have brought my credentials back to me (or given them to someone in the back that could have made sure I got them)... or even just told them to remind me not to forget to get my credentials on my way out. That didn't happen. What happens is I drive 17 miles back to my side of town and then I receive a phone call saying that I forgot my credentials instead of I'm sorry I forgot to give you back your credentials and that I would need to come pick them up. Now I have to drive 30+ more miles because of your incompetence and lack of due diligence . What was even more surprising is when I returned to the facility, a different employee recognized me and knew why I was there...reached into a drawer and flipped through two or three envelopes that had other patients names written on them.... BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T GET THEIR IDs BACK EITHER. I would like to know what's going on ? Are the employees taking your personal information and using it somehow... possibly giving it to some friends who can use it for nefarious reasons? People don't think anymore!!! I know it sounds stupid to some people, but forgetting to give me my credentials back and forcing me to have to take another trip on the road not only puts wear and tear on my car but it also puts me in position of having a potential accident (whether it be my fault or not).

After my visit, I was experiencing extreme pain and potential reaction symptoms to the anesthetic…read moreused. My leg was red, swollen, and tingly, with all my veins visible, which is not the way I went in. The first time I called, they told me my provider would call me back; I called back 1.5 hours later and nobody answered. I never got a call back. They weren't able to fix my issue but the place they referred me to doesn't even do what I needed done.

I brought my 73-year-old mother here after two full weeks of struggling with an upper respiratory…read moreinfection -- coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and fatigue. She has leukemia and asthma, and her husband just had a stroke earlier this week, so she's completely run down and only getting sicker. We made sure the staff knew all of this. After waiting about an hour and a half -- despite having an appointment online -- the PA simply listened to her lungs and ordered a chest X-ray. There was no further exam or effort to get a full picture of my mom's health. The visit was cursory at best; she spent no more than ten minutes with her total. She was diagnosed with bronchitis, and despite us explaining the shortness of breath and wheezing she's been having all week, the PA recommended steam showers, percussion therapy, and Mucinex -- and basically told her to "wait and see." Wait for what? An asthma attack from coughing so hard she ends up in the hospital? For it to turn into pneumonia? For her to become so fatigued and run down she can't care for herself? I understand being cautious with antibiotics and steroids, but medicine isn't just about what shows up on an X-ray -- it's about treating the whole patient. My mom is immunocompromised, more susceptible to secondary infections, and unable to heal quickly. She's been sick for 14 days and is trying to care for herself while also managing her husband's recovery. She needed thoughtful, proactive care, not generic advice for someone young and healthy. And when a patient says, "I'm getting sicker, not better," what more do you need to hear to intervene? I left this visit feeling frustrated, scared, and deeply disappointed. We came here for real help, and it was a complete waste of time. I truly hope this clinic learns to look beyond textbook symptoms and listen to their patients -- especially those already fighting uphill battles with serious health conditions.
