Nicest dentist office I've ever been to! They have tvs on the ceiling. Everybody is super nice there and they have a lot of stuff to help you be comfortable. I had a lot of work that needed to get done and the price was about the same as anywhere else but 100x nicer. I first started with Mint Hill Smiles towards the start of them opening. No issues the first few years. However recently they've added some hires I'm not a fan of - including a dentist - and have adopted a very customary unfriendly approach to reschedules. I'm pretty sure originally you could reschedule online - similar to Calendly. Very convenient and easy to use. This system was scrapped - likely due to last minute cancellations - forcing you towards the phone or email instead of self service. This has draw backs. I had a 1pm Monday cleaning scheduled. Friday morning at work (9:09 AM, ~52 business hours in advance, 76 actual hours with Sunday) I realize I won't be able to make that appointment and send them an email because I'm at work and can't just jump on the phone. 10:02 they call me back - which I don't see because I'm working. 11:42am (~49 business hours) they finally email me back. However, that email isn't a list of upcoming times with a "if these don't work for you please let us know another date range", it's simply a do you prefer mornings or afternoons? You know you have a 48 hour cancellation period that we're trending towards but we're not simply moving to the important part of here's some upcoming openings, if these don't work please let us know. 12:18 I respond with afternoons work better. 12:56pm, 4 minutes before the 48 hour starts because we've wasted the entire morning I finally get on offering of times and a you'll need to pay a $50 fee, 2x my copay amount, because your inability to respond to a clearly communicated reschedule request inside you own time window with an additional 24 hours of padding due to Sunday? There's 3 other dentist offices within 5 minutes of this office. Unless they're the only ones who can take your insurance what exactly is the value proposition to ensure customer stickiness with this policy? Especially when your own inability to process a request in a timely manner because you removed self scheduling. I don't know who the software vendor is for your scheduling system, but if it isn't already a functionality you should suggest not allowing rescheduling within a certain window because this issue was previously avoidable, and given the timeline above should not have happened. read more

After some time seeing Marvelli, I was transferred providers. I was convinced I needed a new night guard and received one that did not replicate my prior successful guard. They then dropped my insurance. I asked for a reasonable refund on the guard because I needed to transfer my care because they dropped MetLife (the state plan). They would not work with me. Convinced me I needed something I didn't, delivered a guard that aggravated by apnea, dropped my state plan insurance, then decided to keep my out of pocket costs. Initially, I liked this dental office a lot. It was an all-woman staff and they were personable and professional. After about 18 months, evidently another dentist joined, who was a man. Totally fine except that he was the dentist who came in for one of my visits. Never introduced himself, didn't make any attempt to break the ice - I had no idea who this person was. He also said I needed a night-guard. That had never been mentioned in any prior visit or at any other dentist I have been to. Fast-forward to this week. They called to schedule an appointment. First, they said I haven't been in for 18 months - absolutely not correct. Then we scheduled the appointment for a convenient time and the lady says "Ok, I just need your credit card for the $50". Um, what? I asked her what the $50 was for and she said "It's so we all adhere to the schedule". I asked her what the $50 was used for and she said "It just goes on your account. You can use it toward future services or ask for it back when you come in." So I asked what if I didn't have any expense and forgot to ask for the money back - what happened to it? She couldn't really answer so I asked if they're just building up some office slush fund? "Oh no!" But this practice doesn't sit right with me so I said "please cancel my appointment" and we hung up. I mean, if we're all "adhering to the schedule", then can I charge them $50 if they are running late? In an effort to be fair, I decided to call back, because my caller ID didn't say Mint Hill Smiles and I thought "Maybe it was a spoofed call and it was a scam". So I called back and no, it's true. They want to charge the patient $50 EVERY TIME they schedule an appointment. I totally understand charging a cancellation fee if I cancel my appointment less than 24 hours ahead, or fail to show up. But to charge me in advance for something that hasn't and might never happen? Is that even legal? I could *maybe* get behind a one-time $50 fee that would be applied if you failed to show up for an appointment, but $50 EVERY TIME? What if after 2 years, I have $200 on my account and I move and forget to ask for the money back? Will they refund it to me automatically? What do they do with it? I think the whole situation is setup for them to add money to their revenue stream. It's like a subscription you forget about - many people will forget they got charged this fee and never ask for it back. If they have 20 patients a day, at $50 per patient, that adds up in a hurry. I haven't left a negative review for a place in a long time, and it's a shame because the practice started off so well. But I will be giving another dentist my business. read more

First off, I've never in my life had a dentist or any medical group charge me a $50 'reservation' fee. To top it off, once you've had your appointment, you have to ask for your deposit back, otherwise, who knows when you'll get your money back. I'm new to the area and just got dental coverage. Before I had them make a mouth guard, I had them verify it would be covered. I paid half up front. Well guess what? I just got a bill for the other half. Called. They said they were sorry. I had just lost my job and asked if they could lower the bill since I was misled that it would be covered. No again. In addition, they didn't even make the guard correctly the first time, they were rough and my mouth hurt for almost a week. I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt but probably not now. I WANT TO BE IN THE COMMERCIAL FOR THIS PLACE!! Absolutely the best dental experience I have ever had in my life!! The care and touch that this place has as it relates to patient comfort, confidence, trust and and overall satisfaction is unmatched. I am glad that I transferred my dental services to this place. I have never had the level of explanation about my x-rays and overall dental care. From the front desk staff to the hygienist to the Dentist everyone was exceptional. I felt important and that my dental health was at the forefront of their minds. I recommend that you give this place a try. They have tv's on the ceiling so that you can watch while you have your procedure done. It just seems like this place has thought about everything as it relates to being comfortable about seeing a dentist. read more

I really don't like to write negative reviews but I'll be fair. The physical care is really good and everyone has been nice. The business end has me concerned as there have been several instance now where it appears there is more focus on taking money and increasing revenue. Recently I was told I have to pay a deposit of $50 for future appointments because people cancel. If I cancel or I am a no show, I expect to be charged for the service. It's my problem. I'm not going to pay a deposit to hold a spot for 6 months. This is a general trend in healthcare and it's unacceptable. This business is also relentless about scheduling high dollar procedures. We are capable of scheduling a $8000 procedure when we can pay for it. Repeated and pushy calls for this, plus appointment deposits leave a bad taste for me. Unethical Practice Alert! I had a deeply unsatisfactory experience with this dental office due to their questionable appointment fee policy. Not only did they charge me a $50 fee to hold my appointment, but they refused to return it after my first appointment. Instead, they kept it for my next appointment. Gave me a tour and even made me feel like Hollywood with a picture for my profile against this nature filled wall. Dr Johnson, Mallary and I think her name is Voo was so nice and got to know me and understand my needs. I'm confused and disappointed in Dr. Kamodia and Mint Hill Smiles. This was not the experience I expected based on their reviews and my initial cleaning. After drilling for two cavities, I was left alone for 30 minutes. I heard the entirety of her consultation with another patient, and from what I can gather-- I was left alone with two gaping holes in my teeth so she could try upselling a waterpik to a man who apparently doesn't brush his teeth. I got to hear the entire back and forth as if they were sitting in the chair next to me. There's no privacy in this office-- I learned this stranger's entire oral history, from his bridges and lack of brushing to the amazing number of cavities he has. I got to hear all of this with two cleaned out holes in my mouth for 30 minutes, wondering why my cavities aren't being filled. When she returned, I felt a sharp pain when she used the air gun on one of the cavities. I had to get another shot to get numb again-- what an awful experience. It seemed the numbness wore off after 30 minutes. Go figure. Seconds later, I got a throat full of whatever highly bitter substance that goes along with the fillings. I nearly gagged on it. I've never had so much of that stuff fall to the back of my throat during a procedure at any dentist. To top off this long, sloppy, and uncomfortable appointment, I didn't even get the benefit of Dr. Kamodia's full attention while my fillings were being finished. She and the hygienist took the opportunity to discuss their home remodeling projects in detail. Dr. Kamodia really likes her kitchen backsplash, but it was so difficult to install. Luckily, the hygienist is married to somebody who saved them thousands by watching YouTube videos about home remodeling. Why did I learn all of this? Twice she even stopped what she was doing, tool in hand, to make an emphatic point to the hygienist about home remodeling, and how expensive it is. And of course I still got the mandatory pitch for the expensive night mouth guard before I left. Bottom line-- between Dr. Kamodia's performance, the lack of privacy at this office, and their above-average pricing, there's no reason for me to return to Mint Hill Smiles with so many dentists practicing in the area. read more

Worst experience ever!!! When to get a crown put on my tooth . A day later had to have a root canal.. now I couldn't use the crown on the tooth . And I called back to explain no one ! Never called me back to help me out the with the situation!! All I got was they would recode it to bill my insurance so they could get paid !! Never seen a dentist treat there people the way they do! What a truly horrible experience. A beautiful office with all the bells and whistles, but it seems they have to pay for those bells and whistles somehow! I requested an appointment for a regular cleaning. I went in and was informed that they would do a gum test. I declined/requested to have it pushed to the end of the cleaning and consultation because I'm a very nervous patient and I didn't want to be poked and prodded. They then refused to perform the cleaning stating that without the test they didn't know if I would need a deep cleaning. I said under no circumstances would I agree to a deep cleaning regardless of the gum test so to just please proceed with the regular cleaning. I did not want the discomfort, the nerves, or the extra charge. I made an appointment for a regular cleaning. This is just a way to strong arm you into additional and possibly unnecessary services. A person already there for the cleaning could agree to an exorbitant extra fee without time to process. I have never had a practice refuse to perform a cleaning because the patient doesn't want a "deep cleaning". I left without getting my cleaning and I am just so disappointed and disgusted. read more

Went back to get my 1st smile checkup for the year. Had to get a few small cavities addressed and learned about gummy bears and the horrors they are capable of! A nice smooth visit, and got to catch up on "National Treasure" on netflix. I think only 2-3 more cleanings and I'll be finished watching it! I saw Dr. Kamodia the week before Christmas to have two crowns done. The work was completed in one day, from the removal of the old fillings, to the preparation and casting and then seating of the new crowns. Dr. Kamodia did a stellar job - I was completely relaxed from beginning to end, and had no pain at any time, and very minimal discomfort at the injection site later that evening. My crowns feel wonderful - so smooth and different from the very old and large fillings I had there for many years. The whole experience w/Dr. Kamodia and her assistant was amazing. They were both extremely professional in everything they did, and offered me a warm blanket while I waited for the crowns to be made, as well as a weighted blanket to keep me warm and calm. So calm that I took a nap! Dr. Kamodia has such a calming demeanor - her voice and very presence make you feel secure. I felt like I was in the best hands possible with her and will not hesitate to recommend her and Mint Hill Smiles to everyone. Made New Pt Appt. Arrived and was told it was a cleaning and films. Told them I was insurance eligible for films until next appt. They assured me that they verified with my insurance that I was eligible. Went back for my next 6 month cleaning and was told about a "gentle reminder" of a balance due of $43 that I did not know about. I asked what it was for and they said the films were not covered. I was very frustrated and explained the situation. They said you need to pay the balance. I escalated my concern to the supervisor via email and she said the same thing. I did everything correctly. This was clearly a mistake or a miscommunication between their office and my insurance. I asked if they would refund my money and they said no. Lost a patient over a $43 error and also because they treat you very robotically at your new patient appointment. Very unfortunate and unpleasant experience all the way around. read more

If I could give this dentistry MORE than 5 stars I would! The most incredible dentist or even medical experience I've ever had. From the very start when I walked in I was greeted with a very warm welcome from Phoebe and the rest of the staff! The facility alone is impressive, truly! Then Miss. Kia came to the lobby to bring me back to meet the hygienist, Kelly! These two together were an incredible team!! Kelly took excellent care of me throughout the cleaning. Making sure I was as comfortable as possible. Offering me a pillow & blanket to make sure I wasn't sleepy or cold. Something as small as a drop of water splashing on my cheek from the cleaning - she immediately patted my cheek dry every time. KIA had me laughing and smiling the whole time!! I can see she is an ASSET to this company. Very personable & sooooo adorable! It seems to be a part of their protocol to get background information about their patients. However Miss Kia went above & beyond!! Making me feel super comfortable with her genuine interest!!! Again - extraordinary experience! I do not recommend this practice. I was told last visit my price for today for work would be $800. I specifically asked staff to check to see if that included everything because my insurance starts over at the first of the year. The staff was going to text me if it was any different. I arrived For my appointment today and was informed that it was more than $800. I was told I would have to pay it all up front to keep the appointment. I had the $800 of which I had to borrow for the appointment But they would not allow me a week or two to pay the rest even though they never informed me of any change in price. $800 wasnt easy to come by especially here at Christmas plus they were also getting a big payment by the insurance company. Seems to me they are greedy if they couldn't wait week or two for the rest. I would be more understanding if they had notified me like I had asked them to but I drove two hours round trip for nothing today. read more
